Hey everyone, Joshua Hanlon here and I am in Xi'an, China at the Shaanxi History Museum and I'm
actually joined by a guide here who actually has been trained in like tourism and giving
tours in China. So if you want to tell us a little bit about what type of history is in the museum
and maybe for someone visiting from America what type of history they can explore if they visit.
Okay hello everyone, I'm Biling from China, Xi'an and Shaanxi History Museum is the first
large museum in our country and it was established in 1991 and it covers
3,700 pieces of history relics and it covers a long history from maybe from the
one million years ago to the present and it shows the whole process of the
Chinese history and the most distinctive dynasty in China is the Zhou dynasty, Qin dynasty, Han
dynasty and Tang dynasty and in Shaanxi History Museum you will find that. Yeah so it's great
because this area here is really like the birthplace of Chinese civilization right so
because of that you get the very beginning like you mentioned lots and lots of years ago all the
way to today and you can have a really good understanding of Chinese history once you visit.
What are some of your favorite objects that are in here some of the type of art and some of the
objects that people can see? My favorite object may be the lion, the walking lion and if you went
to the gallery you will see a huge walking lion and the walking lion is symbol in
ancient time the walking lion the lion is a symbol of royal family and means power and massive powers
and the prosperity is from Tang dynasty it's very impressive and that is my kind of my favorite
in this museum. The walking lion was very cool yeah and you see those lions everywhere in China
so it's an excellent museum here in Xi'an if you're visiting so a lot of people come here
to this area for the terracotta warriors well this museum is well worth a visit as well because you'll
have a much better understanding of Chinese history once you visit here. Thanks so much for
joining me for this video I really appreciate it. One of the most interesting things you'll learn
about in the museum is the Xi'an city wall which still stands today and is one of the best
preserved medieval walls of its kind in the world and one major part of that wall is the fascinating
fortification technology that went into building the gates and the whole section of the wall to
make it as strong as possible. Technology also plays a key role within the museum because they
use technology to tell the stories of significant figures throughout Chinese history and tell stories
such as the Silk Road and how it connected the west with China and how Xi'an was a major player
on the Silk Road because that's where it started and went out west and was able to kind of really
help bring together both sides of the world and so all of that is told through technology through
videos and through as much modern technology as possible which really helps the museum tell its
story. A note for when you're traveling here and want to get your tickets to my left here you can
see the line to the left of the entrance and this is a free ticket line and if you bring your
passport and stand in line then you can actually get a ticket for free to get in the museum. The
problem with that is the line can be very very long so then to the right of the entrance over
here you can see where the paid ticket entrance is and so this will get you into the special
exhibits but it does cost but you also avoid the super long lines at the the free ticket area so
my suggestion would be pay to see the special exhibits and you pay a little bit extra just to
skip that line and you can get in a lot quicker.
