A Kitfox, a Husky, and a Cub fly into the desert…

I got a friend on my six, see if you can get rid of him.
I don't know what it is, Trent. You're walking away from me today, so I don't know.
How much are the new Huskies?
Maybe longer, and it's uphill, and it gets continually steeper as you go farther up the hill,
so it makes it pretty easy. It's really smooth.
There's a couple little rocks hidden all the way at the end, so if you get way up the hill,
that's where you've got to kind of watch for them, but overall, it's super straightforward.
It is no-go around, though.
I got him, man. I'll watch you go in there, OK?
Yep.
Maybe just offset to my right, because I'll be making a left turn out of this one.
You're going to put your smoke out for us?
Sure.
Turning on kind of a long final, and as far as spotting this, there's a little two-track road.
We're landing in the meadow to the left of a two-track road.
You don't want to be on the two-track road.
There is a little T-post on the edge of that road, but basically, I'd be on final now,
and you can kind of see some of our tracks actually out in the grass.
Oh, yeah. I got you, dude.
And like I said, you can continue to roll, but I would not push it up too far into the clumpy sagebrush.
But yeah, I'm going to make a left turn pretty quick here.
OK. I'm up above you here, and I'm going to orbit watch you guys in, OK?
I think it looks dead calm.
Yeah, that smoke's not moving at all.
That's the coolest trick I've ever seen.
What, the smoke?
Yeah.
I know. I'm pretty excited about that.
I'm going to let you guys have this one, OK? I'm just going to orbit up above and enjoy myself.
Sounds good. I'm going to turn final behind Ryan then.
Yeah, that's super cool.
And so, Sterling, I know you're not landing here, but the reason we call it State Line Meadow
is we're literally right on the California-Nevada state line,
and there's a rock up here that has a line drawn on it so you can see exactly where the state line is.
Oh, yeah. That's rad, dude.
I appreciate you guys letting me follow you around, man. That was very cool.
All right. I'm going to blast back off, Ryan.
What I'm going to do is I'm just going to pop over this ridge. Let's go down to Dead Cow.
Yeah, cool.
Pretty cool out here, man.
Yeah, it's not bad. There's a landing under our right right now.
I've got landings all over this hill on your left.
Everywhere we go out here, it's just landing central.
Ryan, you keeping up back there?
Yeah, I'm cutting the corner. I'm a little bit higher than you guys.
Yesterday, I was pedaling hard to keep up, and then today you can't keep up.
My plane's faster when I'm actually flying than I've ever seen.
You might not want to land that pretty plane here.
Okay, well.
You've never been on a dry lake bed?
It's amazing, like walking on the moon or something.
When Sterling was like, dude, this is awesome, I thought he was kind of joking
because I'm so used to dry lake beds that this is the boring stuff for us.
He's out here like, this is the coolest.
Now you've got to get some photos of the plane.
Yeah, okay. Fair enough.
It is photogenic out here, I will say that.
So tell me about this plane, because this is not your plane.
This is a demo plane that you're taking to...
What, were you given a demo ride in it or something?
Yes, sir, that's right. So this is a 2024 A1C 180.
Aviat Husky, right? And I work for Aviat, selling them.
So I'm lucky enough to ride that thing around
and show people, give rides, have fun.
It's the best thing ever.
You said 180 horse?
Yeah, this one's got a carbureted 360.
Very cool. I see what you're talking about with the tail number.
Oh, yeah, it's cool, right?
This is amazing. It really is.
What did you say it weighs? They're heavy.
This airplane is over 1,300 pounds.
And it's for sale.
They really get it.
For sale for half a million bucks?
For sale, half a million bucks. That's right.
500k, it could be yours.
They are cool. They haul a lot and they cruise fast.
Yeah, they're fast, right?
We've all flown all those other airplanes, right?
From 185s and Cubs and all that, and they're all cool.
They're just all a little different, you know?
It's fun for going out and just screwing around,
doing one wheel, practicing different coordination training.
You can land every way to Sunday.
And you can trust it, yeah? No weird soft spots?
Well, aside from whatever I hit over there,
did you see my wing strut?
There's a quarter inch of silt that went up on it.
I saw you land and there was nothing, even where you...
I mean, you could see my ruts.
I've ridden electric skateboards on this.
I've only seen all the RVs parked in the Whole Foods,
all duct taped up and covered in dust and all that, right?
So, actual Black Rock is two deserts over.
So, the next desert would be Smoke Creek,
and then just past that is Black Rock Desert.
But it's like this, only just a gazillion times longer.
I'm so happy you guys brought me out here. Thanks.
Smoke Creek is super cool.
Smoke Creek, it's not like Black Rock and Dead Cow
are super safe and forgiving.
We had a 182 on big tires go on its nose.
And it was crazy, the light tail wheels with big tires.
And you felt a little spongy.
But it was weird, there was like a light crust
that's light colored, so it looked dry,
and then just swamp underneath it.
So, he went up on his nose.
So, yeah, that desert, don't trust it.
I know, and normally we have that saying,
dark is danger, so if it's light, it means it's dry.
And you can normally trust it, don't always trust it,
but Smoke Creek, just don't land out there.
Fly safe, text us when you get back so we know you made it.
Well, how long was your flight?
From here, probably two hours.
That's not bad.
So, I'll give you a shout.
A little longer than mine.
Yeah.
Thanks for letting me play in your backyard.
Yeah, no problem. It was fun, man.
