Today's a big day. Today's a big day. What's left to do?
A little bit of clothes for you and then our health supplement section and then food
which shouldn't be too much. We're gonna need a shipping container for Lisa's supplements. Yeah
I know it does get quite full. You wait. Watch. Here we go. Whoops. Okay. They're already falling
off the counter. I know right. One, two, three, four.
This is as good as it gets right here.
Put your fingers in your toes. See if this will squeeze in there just to give it so it's not
You good Lisa? Yeah. Hold on. Is that your hand?
I apologize. Is it still attached? It is. Okay well we're good. Got a little indentation going
on so I might have a bruise. All right we got the injury out of the way. Pretty hard. I apologize.
Let's take a look at your injury. No it's okay. Means there isn't one. Like right here. So before
it turns purple. Does it smell lovely? I know people can't smell on the camera but
when we got the last Adirondack chair. Yeah. I'm pretty sure there's somebody had previously
spilled the cologne or something. It still smells. I can smell it like from 100 yards away.
So hopefully it's not some illegal drug from Canada. Well we'll take it back.
In Canada. Well that's handy. These work pretty good. Super happy about those. All right I think
we got everything we wanted to get and we got the bonus items. We got two doors. I think those
are the bonus items. All right are we good? I think we're good. All right she's loaded. She's
closed. Do we have locks for the back? Yeah. Okay. They're in the green satchel thing. Okay. But
let's wait until we actually get out of here. Okay. To make sure that we haven't forgotten
anything. Okay. So we're going to go through our final checklist with Grant. Okay. Our youngest son
and then we're out of here and it's uh it's in his hands. Oh it's ready.
All right you good? Yeah I think so. Okay let's go. All right so I think we got everything.
We got our driving shoes. So I'm going to swap into those. Driving shoes? Yeah. We got everything
loaded up. You're fancy. And now I gotta pee. Oh and you guys missed it. We should have had
camera rolling. Lisa ran into all the garbage cans driving the jeep into the shop. Let's clarify
they weren't garbage cans. I mean they're garbage cans but they're not full of garbage. They're just
recyclables. Glass. She chose the glass one. All right are we missing anything? Well if we're
missing something we didn't need it. Because we don't want to have to buy it and where we're going.
Oh you must let it out. You have our purchase contract right? I got our box full of all our
paperwork. Okay. So if the world closes down and we can't ever get back we got all our stuff.
We got the most important thing. That's you. Oh. Okay and we got Luria. And there's Olive in there.
See ya. So the last time, last time Lisa left the U.S. it was a really funny story. So hopefully
this time isn't as uh what they say eventful. It was 27 years ago. You don't want to hear that.
But it was good enough that we still talk about it in family reunions today. So interesting when
you cross the Canadian border they have it in French. That's interesting to me. It's probably
like duh to you. And Google just told us welcome to Canada. So everybody welcome to Canada in just
about. We have to cross the border first. It's through the gate. All right wish us luck. We're in.
Yep. So I'll drop off for giveaways gifts while you're visiting through Canada. Nope. And is there
any type of firearms? So pistols, rifles, shotguns? Nope. Any ammunition? Nope. Mace, pepper spray,
tasers or stun guns? Nope. How many pets do you have with you? Two. Any fresh fruits or vegetables
or live plants? No we've got some retail package stuff that we read online was okay. You're good
to go. Cool. Thanks man. Have a good day. This is the gate. A lot of questions but hey we're in.
What city are we at? Merritt. Merritt. Oh Providence. We're in Merritt, Canada.
Yes. Right? Yes. So we're getting fuel, diesel to be specific. It's a yellow pump. We're used to green.
Anyway, thought I'd give you a little update. So it's 79 liters, $1.719 per liter.
So basically a buck eight. Like 80 cents but anyway. It's $135.84 in Canadian money.
What's that in the U.S.? You said $109? Oh yeah. Our credit card just alerted us at $109.30.
$109 in the U.S. $134.84 in Canadian. There you go. Chiller. I think the train coming through there
is super cool. Where is it at? Kamloops Lake. British Columbia? Yes. That's super neat. Yeah.
Beautiful. All right. So the synopsis for today. Lisa, ladies first. We drive during daylight hours,
find some place early, get a good dinner and go to sleep. No more driving until 1 30 at night.
That was ridiculous. We had a dog certificate we had to get through the Canadian border
to satisfy. Of course they did not ask for anything related to your dog certificate to
be able to go into Canada. But you know if we waited till tomorrow and it expired,
we would ask for it twice. So we got that taken care of. Beautiful drive through Canada today.
We are taking the Cassier route and we've gone through, do you remember what cities or towns or
providences we've gone through? The Cassier Highway actually starts on North. Not yet. Yeah it
disconnects. So this is 97 North. We're headed to Prince George and then another cutoff and
then the Cassier Highway will connect a little north. The goal is to take the more westerly route.
But here actually. It's raining. It was raining this morning. We woke up and it's raining tonight.
We were talking about it and it almost feels like we're at the beach. Yeah like the Oregon
beaches. Oregon and Washington Beach which is what we're used to. Kind of has that wet rainy feel to
it. Yeah everything's super green. It's pretty. Yeah so we found a spot for the night on iOverlander
and funny enough there is another truck with a smaller trailer right in front of us. I will show
you. Boom. So they're probably doing the same thing. We haven't seen anybody. Hopefully we
see them sometime so we can wave and say hi. That's what we're up to. So we're going to
double check this is a good spot to park. If the rain stops I'm going to walk up to that other one
and see if that's any better or a better view than just trees.
And we'll go from there. See you guys tomorrow. Unless we see you tonight. Good morning everybody.
We're back on the road today. I think our goal today is to hit. Lisa just told me and I forgot.
So we've been doing 225 miles each day. Not kilometers. Hey Siri how many kilometers is 225
miles? 225 miles is 362.1 kilometers. 362.1 kilometers. One kilometers a day. So we have to
do the math now. Anyway our goal today is to do another at least 225, 250, 300 miles. Actually
number one goal today is to enjoy the journey. You think they have any backwards Alaskan coffee
huts on the way? Well we're not in Alaska. We've got a long ways to go. That's right.
Backroads BC. Canada Lisa. We had a good friend of ours tell me that we need to stop at a Tim
Hortons and get coffee. And then I said if it's that good I'll stop if you say so. She said I'm
not a coffee connoisseur but for the experience. So I'm going to order it and I'm going to and
they say what's your name to put on the coffee cup and I'm going to say Gina.
This one's for you Gina. All right are we ready? We've got you know something interesting. We've
got the Google over here. We've got the Garmin up here. They both start with G's.
Michelle thinks I'm talking to her. And they both have different routes to get to the same place.
Garmin is focused on the shortest way possible but when the internet goes out and the offline
maps go out and the Google goes out then we've got the Garmin. Ready to go. Plan A. Plan B.
One is none. Two is one. That's a wrap. That's a wrap. Cut.
So I'm guessing we've beat tourism season because at the tourist center
there ain't a lot of information. Oh boy. We're at the end of the line. No we're at the beginning
of the line. We're before the line even started. Looks like everybody grabbed their brochures.
Last year. Oh. All right. Is this the other side of him? What? It should go sideways but there's
no buts about it. But there's no buts about it? Well they ran the wheels off from that one huh?
They got here just in time. They make them hot here. Okay so the day can now begin.
I think we had to do like 20 miles before coffee because I thought it would be easier to get coffee
than to make coffee, clean the coffee pot, get rid of the coffee grounds,
all that stuff. But we had to wait a while. So Lisa why don't you give an update where we've
been where we're going. We came through what's the border we came through a couple days ago?
This is day three. Day three. Day three. Oyoso if I'm saying it right. Osoyoso. We've been through
Kamloops, Williams Lake. And that that was coming up highway one and then 97. Yeah. But we started
on one and then it was 97. Then we came through Prince George. Prince George and then we stayed
the night at last night Quetzal Lake. Did I jump ahead of you? And we're in Vanderhoof to get coffee.
Vanderhoof with uh Tim Hortons. Usually we're Starbucks people but uh I'm telling you there's
not that many and this is kind of better. I had the big day. Oh really? Yeah. It's way stronger.
I usually get a triple americano. I think you could do a double but hey we got about 250 to
300 miles to drive today so cheers. I mean it's good but when you're used to things back home it's
it's a little different. Change is hard for some of us. All right it looks like we have 1495 miles to go
so with that said. We'll see ya later. We forgot we're gonna try and keep updates because we need
something. Lisa needs something to do. So thus far today we have seen. Go Lisa. This morning since making
up 22 miles that's as far as we've gone. One black bear, a coyote. It was the hump of a black bear
just to be fair. Three deer and the first Canadian police we've seen but he was at Mcdonald's getting
coffee and that's literally like no joke. We haven't seen any any law enforcement anywhere
which is probably a good sign because they don't need it from the Canadian border here.
Yeah and we've, we're, that's like 500 miles. Yeah. Give or take a hundred. But that's our update.
It's out there just waiting on you and me.
All right so the Stewart Highway is 237 kilometers.
Hyder, Alaska is 240 kilometers and Bear Glacier 201 glacier 201 kilometers. You know I know that
because there's a sign that says so. So this turn we are then on Stewart-Cassier Highway.
That road right there. This road right here. That's where we're going next. This is exciting.
We need to figure out what that is a gallon compared to how much a liter. What do you got?
Cappuccino, triple americano with oat milk. They had americano with oat milk? Yeah. And then
a blueberry muffin and a poppy seed, lemon poppy seed. Holy cats. That's awesome.
I don't know. Do you get a nicer view? All the fish down there?
They're cool. Are you talking about me? Are you a loon? Just loony.
Then there's a boat over there, a canoe under the tree. Yeah. Want to go for a paddle?
You think the dogs will stay in? No. Good morning everybody. For some reason the
wanted to take a south today. Found a new route. Got 500 miles more. Views are getting more
beautiful. Lots of mountains. They're irritating. They fly into your eyelids. Lisa what say you?
If you would have watched Lisa's expression for breakfast it was super. Well I don't swear for
animals I don't think. Sometimes you gotta stop and get gas even though you may not want to get
gas where you need to get gas because you need gas. You know what I'm saying? Where are we at?
How do you pronounce that Lisa? Iskut? Oh we're in Iskut. We're in Iskut at Kluwishan.
Probably saying that wrong. Kluwishan Center Store. Getting some diesel. Wait I need to figure out
what 218 cents per liter is equal to and how many dollars per gallon. Go. When I have that
connection I'll surely look it up. But it is beautiful. What you may not have noticed is
the background. So if we go here. That's pretty cool huh? Beautiful. Is it worth the price of
admission? I got a surprise for you. You do? I had a basket full. Because I think of everything.
Okay so I believe we have landed at camp for the night. Lisa are we good? We're at a zero percent
roll pitch and a one percent roll. Let's set up camp huh? Good morning everybody. Good morning.
We had coffee. We're ready to go. We heard the loon this morning. It never got dark last night.
There's a bald eagle right over there. That's super cool. Do you think the zoom on the telephone
will get him? Yours might be better. We should at least try. I always try. I always try. Um he's over
there somewhere. Okay this is you watching the video of the bald eagle that is in bad focus.
And it's super zoomed so it's all over the place. But it's super cool. It's super pretty.
Ponder Lake. I think a legitimate. Oh it's called Blue Lakes. Oh Blue Lakes. Super super cool. Okay
we need to move on. We need to get going today. It's 10 14. Our entire goal is to relax and at
10 o'clock I hit that point of relaxation is over. We need to move. All right Watson Lake is our first
destination. Groceries. Hope there's some there. Then Whitehorse is our second.
Which both of those then uh we're in the Yukon. At what point do we get into the Yukon?
Is that Watson Lake is kind of like over here. Yeah. But we probably crossed it and
came back into BC and then crossed it and then went back into the Yukon.
And that little. Yep there's a little dip back into the British Columbia. Okay can you pretend
you're an owl and tell me if anybody's coming? All clear. You know what the really cool thing
about this trip is? Directionally. There's only one road and only one way to go. Do you want to
go north or you want to go south? Do you want to go back where you came from or keep going?
Don't need any directions. Yeah I don't know about you if you knew this but I had internet
service on the whole Cassier highway. Let's make note of that. No cell service. We used the Garmin
inReach to check in with our boys each night so they know where we're camped. And because you can
send a text message if you don't know. And we're good to go. Forward bound. And the uh worth noting
the frost eaves are no joke. I think they'll only get bigger as we go. But with a long trailer
be careful. All right so we got to Canada. They nearly have a place. At least we didn't find one
to stop and take a picture. So we're making up where we left off. We're making up for what we
missed. I don't know. Anyway so this is us entering British Columbia Canada. The best, well sorry
the U.S. is the best place on earth. But anyway be respectful. We're here. Take a picture Lisa.
Were you in the picture? I hope so but some mosquitoes were too.
Okay now let's go to the Yukon.
We made it to the Yukon. That was crazy.
Boom baby. We're currently sitting on the side of the road.
No we're in the road. That's correct. We're in the middle of the road with about
a few hundred other cars. A few hundred new friends. Apparently there was a fatal accident
ahead. A reminder of timing and drive careful. Absolutely. We were told that it may be eight
hours before anything moves. So we leveled up the truck, set up the camper, made some dinner
and we're chilling. We're chilling. We're hoping that some animals would come out of the woods so
it put on a show for us or something. But we've seen no animals in this section.
Blue and red truck light truck. Looks like a Yukon work truck but I don't know. So we're
currently in the Yukon somewhere as you probably saw a little bit ago. We just passed, what was
Teslin. And I've not seen any Teslas. That's true. I don't think you want to drive an electric car.
You might be stuck. So that's the update from here. Lisa back to you. Anybody got any ice cream?
What did you order? I'm not sure.
I wanted a chocolate coffee, like a chocolate coffee shake. What I got was a scooby chocolate
ice cream with a pure espresso shot over it. But it's actually really good. It's strong.
It's really good. I couldn't pronounce it. I think they said it in French.
She said milkshake. Huh? She said milkshake. You want a milkshake? Like a milkshake with coffee?
Yeah. And then you said yes. She said we got ice cream. You said chocolate. She said okay. Yes.
Let's see what you got. You didn't show. There's your little dollop of ice cream over her
espresso. A couple espresso shots. A long espresso shot. I think so. I just got coffee.
Maybe you should be driving now. I think I'll be awake from the next ration. I'm gonna go get
oat milk out of the camper and put it in there. Oh and a gluten-free brownie. You've got a gluten-free
brownie. All right let's show that to you in a second. You got the coffee. Midnight sun coffee
roasters. Freshly roasted organic coffee from a lot of things that I can't see. What's the rest of
it say? Organic midnight special blend. Waking up white horse since 1997. Woo 97. That was before
Garrett. Yeah. That was a year after we bought our first house. They've been around a while.
All right it looks very sugary. Yes. Lisa ladies first. We're just gonna do. You're gonna stick
your finger in it aren't you? No I'm trying to just break it. I should have asked her if it
was sugar-free just to get the look on her face. Oh cakey. Cakey and pillowy? Cakey. Cakey rich?
Oh yeah you can smell it. What do you smell? Rich. What does rich smell like? Sugar.
Oh wow. Very cakey. So there's a nice crust of frosting at the very top. There's brownie
mix right in the middle and on the bottom and some beautiful white right there. You shut the doors.
This is special. Oh my god. It's really good. It is good. It's very rich. Very chocolatey
and rich brownie sugary deliciousness. Mm-hmm. I'm gonna need a private moment
with coffee. I want to say bon voyage but I think that's wrong. Bon appétit. Bon appétit.
Bon something. Bon appétit. Bon appétit. Not bon? I don't really like where we're
parked. Everybody's backing up. I think they're gonna hit our trailer. But wow.
Haynes Junction? Where are we? Yeah Haynes Junction. Yukon. Yep. I haven't even got to
Alaska yet. This is going good except for Whitehorse. I'm gonna do you a favor. Don't
stop at the Starbucks at Whitehorse. It's the only one there. That's all I'm saying.
Just go somewhere else. Go to Walmart. It's gonna be better. Timmy Horton's. Oh the Walmart I'm not
impressed with in Whitehorse. No. No. Save it for this place. Village what? What was the name of it?
Village Bakery. Village Bakery Haynes Junction. That's where you need to be.
It's the first time Lisa that you've been in the U.S.? U.S. Well actually not the first time.
This is the Canada border over here and then you can be in both. And I got my ID this time.
But it. Canada. Cuts it out. The mountain. Treaty of 1925. I know she smells dogs. In the United
States of America. We made it and we have big news to share. Lisa you coming with me? See it?
All right Lisa so you want to break the news while we're here? Oh I thought we'd wait until
we arrived. No. Where? Well I mean like arrive. Like we did a little something something.
This is the time. We bought a cabin with property here in Alaska.
It's going to be awesome. Don't worry we're still going to be in Washington because the
antidote is pretty awesome. But Alaska has been something that's been on our radar.
I'll speak for me specifically. Forever. So this is a this is really a cool opportunity
to see what we can do. We're not sure exactly what we're going to do. We have lots of ideas.
But enjoy the journey with us. We hope you do.
And we'll see you in our new place. Well we'll probably see you in between. But you know what
I'm saying.
