Hello my friends, this is Vic. Welcome to my channel and thank you for watching my videos.
Once again I'm visiting the beautiful city of London and once again I'm visiting the British
Museum here in central London. In this particular video we're going to visit this world-famous
museum and we're going to admire the objects exhibited at the African Wing. We're going to
view the most priceless and important objects from nations including Nigeria, Algeria, Chad,
Cameroon, Ethiopia and many others. So this is Vic. Let's go to the British Museum and let's enjoy
the priceless objects exhibited at the African Gallery. Let's do it. And the best place to start
our tour of the Africa exhibit here at the British Museum is by looking at the world-famous
Benin Bronzes made in the 16th century in Benin, Nigeria. Let's get a few close-up views
of these magnificent pieces of art from Nigeria. Here's a view of some of the pieces
of the Benin Bronzes collection. There's over a hundred of these pieces exhibited here
at the British Museum. And here's a brass head of a queen from Benin in Nigeria, 19th century.
And two more brass heads. This one is from Benin in Nigeria, 16th century.
And this one is from Benin, Nigeria as well. A brass head from the 19th century.
And here is a beautiful carving of a figure from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
It stands for about a meter twenty. And it's made out of wood, metal, and animal skin.
And it is absolutely beautiful. Let's look at it again up close. Right there. And here is a pottery
head used during funeral ceremonies from the 19th century from Ghana. And here is a decorated
pottery dish from Marrakech, from Morocco, early 20th century. And here is a beautiful pottery
vessel from the Democratic Republic of Congo, early 20th century. And here is a carved chair
consisting of wood and leather from Angola, from the 19th century. And let's get a close-up view
of the small statues carved on the chair. Right there, from Angola. And here is a 19th century
chair of a powerful person, quite obviously from Zanzibar, from the 19th century. It is made out of
wood and ivory from Zanzibar. And here is an absolutely magnificent carved, wooden carved
palace door from the beginning of the 20th century from Ikere or Ikere in Nigeria.
You can sit here for quite a few minutes absorbing the details of this beautiful, magnificent
wooden palace door. It's about two meters in height and it includes so many details.
Right there. And here's a wooden carving of a king from the Democratic Republic of Congo
from the 18th century. And here's a small coffee pot decorated with a metal stand
right there from Sudan, early 20th century. And here's a set of Uyghur shields from the 19th
century from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Here's a close-up view of one of them, one of the
shields. And here is a beautiful shield made out of leather and silver from Sudan from the 19th
century. And here is a wooden mask from Mozambique from the 19th century. And here is a beautiful
sword and sheath from Ghana from the 19th century. Made out of wood, iron, and animal skin, and
gold leaf from Ghana from the 19th century. A beautiful sword and sheath. And here's a storage
pot from Algeria. And here's a storage pot from Cameroon. And here's a beautiful
clay storage pot from Malawi. It is beautiful, isn't it? No date is given when this pot was
created. And here is a beautiful clay wine pot from Cameroon. We don't know the date
it was made, but it's absolutely beautiful, isn't it? And here's a beautiful ceramic dish from Algeria
late 20th century. And in a glass cabinet, which is very poorly lit, we find a late
19th century drum from Sudan. And it is over two and a half meters in width,
right there, from Sudan. A wooden drum. You can see the beautiful details of the carvings on the
side of the drum right there. And here's a beautiful dance shield used in dancing ceremonies
from the early 20th century from Kenya. Made out of wood and cloth and pigment from Kenya.
And it may be difficult to see this, but here is a beautiful sword and sheath
from Ethiopia, right there, from the 19th century. If we pull back, we can see both of them
at the same time, right there.
