Good morning.
So we're heading out you guys.
This is our backpacking series.
The beginning.
We got up early this morning.
Left at like 5am. We've been on the road for over an hour.
So we had a great time with Annette's family.
She rafted,
and hiked, and hanged.
It was really fun.
So we're heading to Wyoming Wind River.
We'll start hiking tomorrow.
We're going to take you guys with us.
Okay you guys, we were here
when we hiked the CDT.
The CDT comes right through here.
And
we are shuttling trucks.
We're leaving my brother's truck here.
We'll start over
near Pinedale and we're going to walk
and we're going to end up hiking part of the CDT
that we had missed.
Just a section of it, and we're going to do more than that.
But anyway, we'll come back here in six days.
I'm excited.
It's so beautiful. It's got a little bit hazy
because there's fires all over the place.
That right there,
Square Top Mountain.
So here's our campsite.
About, I don't know,
half a mile from the trail.
Just hanging out.
Kerry's got his tent right over here.
It's a big site.
Here we are. We're starting our trail.
Kerry's with us. We're excited.
Yippee! Here we go.
Six days.
Give it a go.
There's Kerry having
technical difficulties.
Switching out socks.
That's it.
Kerry's in.
Yeah.
Yeehee!
Perfect.
Doing a cold soak.
So this is our campsite for the night
on Seneca Lake.
It's beautiful.
Kerry is right down here.
There's his tent
right down there.
It's awesome up here.
Hey, hey. Hi.
We finished our first day of hiking. It was awesome.
It was beautiful. We're all tired.
The jumping in the water
revived us because we were all hurting.
But anyway, it was an awesome day.
Kerry's down there fishing right now.
He brought his pole so he's fishing.
He's fly fishing.
We had a couple of weird things.
When we started the trail this morning
there was a sign
saying dead mule
on the trail near this lake.
And to watch out for bears.
Might attract bears.
But we did see the dead mule
laying right there.
I smelled something. I said, oh my gosh, something's dead
right here. And then we saw the big old mule
as we came around the corner. It's so sad.
Nothing has gotten to that yet.
But that's not something you see every day.
Oof. Thank God.
And
Kristi
became the hero of the day.
One guy.
So you guys, I'm up here at the camp
and I had to go to the bathroom. And we're kind of in these rocks
so I had to... Oh, a bug just went in my mouth.
Ugh. So I had to walk around
just kind of searching
for a place to go to the bathroom
out of the way. The trail's over there and everything else.
So I'm just kind of wandering around
and I reached down and picked up a phone.
I was like, what is that? And I picked up a phone.
I just... I picked it up
and looked at it. And I hear a voice go,
Hey. And I was like, where did that come from?
And I was like, yeah? And I'm looking
and I walked back a ways.
I had no idea where it even came from. And there's this guy
coming towards me and he said,
Gosh, I have... I took a break
here with my friends today and I'm trying to
find my... And I held up the phone and he went,
Oh my God!
Couldn't believe it. He said I
walked back five miles to find my phone.
And then he
asked me my name. And he said, Kristi, you saved my life.
You saved my life.
He's a hero. And we heard him all the way
over there hooting and hollering. He's so happy.
Rejoicing and celebrating.
I find that odd that he came five
miles and as soon as he got right here,
I just happened to pick up the phone right at that same
moment. It's so weird.
So weird. I told him, I said, I just picked
it up. Would have heard your voice.
But, so we...
We're in the Wind River Mountains in Wyoming.
I know. Look at this. Look at our lake.
We're camped right up here.
Seneca Lake. It's really beautiful.
Can you go... Can you show that way?
Yeah, look at that.
Isn't that just beauty?
Kerry is right down there. I'll have to get a video of him
fishing. Yeah.
So we've had a good day.
Tiring. I mean, you know, it's a...
Throw on that pack you haven't
been wearing for a while and
of course you're tired. You're like, Oh my
gosh!
It's true. We took a... It started raining
just sprinkling and we went in the tent and we were all
all of us crashed.
You hear snowing coming from every quadrant.
You're like, Oh!
Anyway, tomorrow we're going to head over to Peak Lake
and we're going to
stay there a couple of nights I think
and maybe do a day hike up Knapsack Cove
and
this part of the trail we've done before
when we go out on the last three days
will be the CDT. Part of the CDT that we
missed because of snow. We went around.
We did an alternate. So the Highline
Trail out to Green River will be
part of the CDT.
It's about 20 miles I think of it.
So anyway, alright. We'll take you guys
with us. Okay. Bugs are
bugging us. Bugs, yes.
Beautiful morning.
Deep within
here we go
but somehow I'm caught
in the middle. Is
this the end before we've even
begun?
Should
I work against the
flow? A drop in the
ocean so endless
reaching for
our moments miles above
I just need one
diving
in
to all this endless
space
falling stars
but still I see
you. Sweet escape
a lovely start
but letting go's the hardest
part
swimming in this
deep, deep
blue
hold my breath
looking up at moves and waves it keeps
changing catch a
glimpse of what was you
and me it's gone
again
sinking in back on
the shore
one foot in front of the other
eyes
if you hold my hand
just like you used to
back then these
hopes dance high
like sparks
while they go out
but in that
second you're
still mine
diving in
to all this
endless space
falling stars
but still
I see you. Sweet escape
a lovely start
but letting go's the
hardest part
swimming in
this deep,
deep blue
I know
I'm floating
on this dream
but soon
comes morning
embrace our
wondrous sea
diving in
falling stars
but still I see
you. Sweet escape
a lovely start
but letting go's the
hardest part
swimming in
this deep,
deep blue
swimming in the deep
Alright, here's our campsite
for the night. Right over
you can't really see it but there's a
lake right under that peak
we're just over the hill from it
and I'm water running out
through over here so we're surrounded by water
you can see it a little bit
this way
so this is Peak Lake
and tomorrow we're gonna go
up in that
valley to
Knapsack Cove as a day hike
could spend two nights here but look at that
beautiful
okay
gosh we had a big rain last night
thunder, lightning
we are gonna do a day hike today
up to Knapsack Cove and go as far as we can
so that's our plan
just go up there and wander around a little bit
see what's up there. I know it's gonna be fun
it's a little bit overcast, it's a little bit
cloudy
but we've got
360 views here
this is amazing, we're in this little bowl
it's awesome
alright we're gonna take you with us on a little day hike
yeah it's right here
see the trail right here
that's tough
beautiful day. Okay that scree slope
was pretty tough. That was tough
that was really hard
okay
alright so we're
camped in a little bowl right over there
and we're up
in this little valley
and it's beauty
look at this beauty
we're just gobsmacked
we're just like oh my gosh
and we're gonna go
right up here to
Knapsack Cove
there's a glacier right there
little bit of one
we are up here
cloudy day
a little break here
look at our beauty, it's around us, all around us
it's amazing
it's awesome, beauty
so we're pretty much just bushwhacking
our way up here
can't find a trail anywhere
we're just trying to get right up there
to that little coal
we just found the trail
if it's searching around
trying to find a carrot is like
the proverbial needle in a haystack
it's all rock
this was hard
we're just bouldering up here
going towards this saddle up here
but we just now found the trail
ok, we gotta get to the top
you guys
we found that trail for a minute
and then we lost it and we bouldered
all the way up
just scrambling above the coal
we had to come down, scramble down to it
but we're here, we made it
it's beautiful, look at this
this is the other side
we were here about 17 years ago
our friend Spence
and my sister Melody were with us
with a bunch of other people
they are no longer with us, we lost Spence in 2010
and my sister in 2015
so we have good memories here
we had fun
we walked right, we angled down
across that glacier
see the glacier way over there, and there's one under here too
you can see the ice on the side
you can kind of see it as you go down
we walked down in here
to Titcum Gorge
and that was a tough
tough hike
this is an alternate of the CDT
it's a pink route that you can take
we just saw a CDT hiker coming down
wow that was tough
wow
we're eating lunch
at 12,900 feet
tuna and tortilla with cheese
avocado and cheese
making our way down
unbelievable
you guys were out of breath
we got down off of the
let me turn it this way
so we got down off of that
the coal there
and down out of that upper bowl
and down into the lower valley now
so we're almost done, we're going to be
back to camp before long
we got to check on Kerry, we left him there fishing
and relaxing
and that was a fun day
super fun, that was great
because it was hard to find
it's hard to find because some trails
are still under snow and stuff so you have to really
work it, it is hard, that was hard
hard hard
so I'm going to end this video here
because I wanted to
there's so much beauty out here
that I was trying to show you as much as I could
and it makes the video long
so when we get back to camp today I'm going to end it here
the first 3 days on part 1
and then there will be a part 2 that does the last 3 days
it's just so amazing guys
you just go like this
here I'll
spin you around like that, hold on
there's another waterfall
back there
anyway, when I get
into town there will probably be a part 1 and part 2
right behind each other but I'm just going to make it a little bit shorter
so thanks for coming with us
one of our favorite places
on the planet, Wynn River
Yippee
