Vyacheslav Samodurov choreographer I felt that I wanted to work with a story, to make a storytelling performance.
This play is not easy, it balances between drama, comedy, tragedy. A complex story, complex images. It was a challenge for me.
Yuri Krasavin composer Piano Sonata No. 17, which is consistently called "The Tempest" throughout the world.
Beethoven was asked what the content of this sonata was. And he answered - read Shakespeare's Tempest.
Of course, I thought that I would use this sonata. There are few quotes here, but this music runs through the entire ballet.
For me, everything that happens in this performance, including the scenery and lighting, is a projection of Prospero's way of thinking.
He is in a state of some kind of deep sleep or trance, but at the same time he is torn apart by a large number of conflicting emotions. This island is his fantasy.
Igor Chapurin costume designer This is my first experience when I drew all the costumes before the ballet began to be staged.
It was very important for Vyacheslav Samodurov, while staging the ballet, to understand who are his characters.
Vyacheslav Lopatin
There is a lot of romance here, a lot of air and a lot of purity.
Makhar Vaziev artistic director of the ballet troupe I am very glad that today our repertoire has been replenished with such a wonderful work. The great Shakespeare.
The theme itself, the play itself is absolutely balletic. There are so many images, how brightly, how talentedly, and balancedly Slava created them.
Margarita Shrainer Alexey Putintsev
My character is a girl Miranda, who lives on an island with her father Prospero. She has very sharp dynamic movements.
She is always in some kind of confusion. The text, the choreography are very close to me.
Slava is quite original. Everything is always sharp and at the same time, we say in ballet - "on meat", it means pressing.
This is such a specificity of Slava's choreography. It is great and gives a very interesting experience.
Music is the main thing in this ballet for me. Without music, nothing would be possible. It captivates me. It is energetic. It is very suitable for dancing and there is a lot of energy and drive in it.
Pavel Klinichev conductor
Of course, this score is very talented, it gives me great joy to work with this composer, because it is always great and interesting.
This music is very easy to perform and, as always, the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra did not let me down. It never lets anyone down.
