Most of the coffee alternatives in this video could be made using the same methods you would
by brewing regular coffee. There are some adjustments have to be made if you want to
use an espresso machine and we will look at this adjustment later. You can brew any of
coffee alternatives just like they are or you can mix them together creating your signature brew.
My favorite part about real coffee is foam, foam on the top and smell. It smells really nice. So
when you look at the coffee substitutes one thing you can't really replicate no matter how good they
taste is the smell of coffee. So leave this expectation aside and foam is easily replicable
for me. That's why all these coffee substitutes that you're gonna see in this video are very very
exciting because they do have a texture of coffee if you can call liquid a texture I don't know
but they really like you know you can brew them that they look and they taste exactly like coffee
better I would say better and foam the foam we can make a foam and we can add creamer and all
the flavorings this exactly same flavorings you add in a coffee you can add in the substitutes
so taste wise density wise it's just like coffee smell wise you should buy a candle the coffee
candle are those such a thing like a coffee candles yeah I hope there is a candle with coffee
scent this would be a perfect combination we can put the coffee candle going and have a nice
coffee substitute anyhow let's go the first coffee substitute we're gonna look at today
is very well known around the globe and this is chicory root chicory is a beautiful flowering
plant root of which had been used for centuries as a coffee substitute in europe chicory is a
great source of inulin which is prebiotic and is excellent food for your gut friendly bacteria

carries dark roast french chicory coffee I make very often you can use any of your favorite methods
to prepare french chicory coffee sometimes I make chicory coffee in espresso machine for that there
are a couple of things to remember first the chicory root have to be coarsely ground you know
I'm not like a real coffee for espresso machine you have to grind it really really fine doesn't
work like that with chicory second do not pack your chicory root and third do not fill your filter
cup to the top the reason why we're doing all these measures because chicory root is actually
rude and it's very fibrous once the hot water hits it it expands rapidly clogging the brewing cup I
love the taste of chicory espresso and the nice thick foam it offers it is extremely satisfying
all it needs is a sweetener of your choice I love to have it with some date sugar you can use
any brewing methods you like for two espresso sized cups you need one tablespoon of chicory
if using an espresso machine or espresso mocha pot if using drip coffee maker or french press
use from one to two tablespoons of chicory depending on how strong you like it today I'm
making chicory espresso shots with homemade cashew milk I love using homemade cashew milk as a creamer
because it sprouts very well thickens when warmed up and it is delicious of course you can see the
way I'm making my cashew milk in this video by the way references to everything you see in this video
I placed in the description box below and on the positivepronin.com website so you can check
exactly what I'm using I'm finishing with the sprinkle of cinnamon for sweetener I choose to

taste which makes it a healthy alternative to sugar and it flavors and sweetens at the same time

purifying improves blood circulation and yeast digestion and has a cooling effect on your body
this time I'm making my barley coffee in an espresso mocha pot you can make it in a regular
espresso machine as well roasted barley has to be coarsely ground I'm adding a little bit of
roasted cumin for an additional flavor don't pack it and fill the portafilter cup only halfway
it naturally creates a nice and thick foam one for me and one for you I'm using warm and frothed
homemade almond milk you can check my previous videos to see how I make it and I'm adding flavor
and sweetness with molasses time to savor the next coffee substitute is dandelion root
this coffee substitute is absolutely delicious with a little chocolatey flavor and in Ukraine

endless supply for little girls to make flower crowns every part of dandelion is used for its
enormous medicinal properties in traditional European herbalism Chinese and Native American

conditions just to name a few you can use dandelion root to make tea or coffee you can purchase them
raw or roasted I'm using organic dandelion roots from Bulgaria they come unroasted so I have to
roast them myself you can roast them to your liking I love to roast my dandelion roots on a
cooktop I feel I have more control over the roast this way you want your roots to be dark brown
resembling roasted coffee bean color roast on medium heat mixing continuously once dandelion
root pieces are nicely browned but not burned remove them from the heat and transfer to a large
flat plate to cool after they are cooled you can grind them on coarse setting in your coffee grinder
you can make your dandelion coffee using any of your favorite coffee making methods this time I'm
making dandelion root coffee using my pour over dripper coffee maker to make two cups of dandelion
coffee I'm using two tablespoons of coarsely ground dandelion root warm and frothy homemade
cashew milk date sugar is a sweetener of choice this time a touch of cinnamon and a little sprinkle
of date sugar to finish it off dandelion coffee has an elegant chocolate aroma and taste it's time
to enjoy the next coffee substitute is roasted chickpeas this coffee alternative goes back
hundreds of years and been a popular hot beverage in Europe and Turkey
roasted chickpeas coffee alternative has pretty neutral taste I like to use carob syrup to add
some chocolate flavor and sweetness homemade frothed cashew milk for smooth and silky texture
and some date sugar to sweeten the first sip next is mayan nut or ramon seed scientifically
mayan nut is not really a nut it's a droop so more like a coconut just a tiny one with a large
seed inside the cool thing about ramon seeds that they not contain tree allergens like other nuts
because they not a nuts because they see seed of a fruit not a nut the ramon tree member of the
fig family which also includes mulberry trees they grow in central american rainforest I love to
combine ramon seeds with another coffee substitute roasted carob even though each of them can be
brewed separately I think they are a great complement to each other my favorite way to
brew ramon and carob coffee alternatives is by using a french press don't forget to take
time for yourself and subscribe till next time be alive
