In 1957, Mao Zedong launched the anti-rightist movement
A group of national capitalists were beaten into a big right
Among them, the chairman of Shanghai Hongxing Manufacturing Factory,
the chairman and general manager of China's clock factory,
Li Kangnian, the manager of Cuizhong Manufacturing Factory,
became one of the top ten rightists in the National Trade Union
Today, we will follow Xiao Xiaohong's article
Let's talk about how Li Kangnian became a big rightist
Li Kangnian graduated from a university at the age of 14
From the age of 17 to the age of 24, he studied business in Ningbo, his hometown
He was a student at the time, and then he worked as an accountant,
accounting director, secretary, manager, etc.
At the age of 27, he came to Shanghai
and worked at the Chinese Chemical Industry Association founded by
He was appointed as an accountant, general manager, and manager of Jixing Bank
After the 918 Incident in 1931,
Li Kangnian wrote down the motto
In 1932, in order to stop the Japanese goods,
Li Kangnian contacted nine national goods factories
to form nine national goods temporary joint factories
and opened them on the anniversary of the 918 Incident
After that, he drafted a plan to set up a Chinese national goods company
and was supported by well-known entrepreneurs such as Fang Yexian
He raised 100,000 yuan in capital
and rented the facade of Nanjing East Road No. 353
and named the shop Shanghai Chinese National Goods Company
It opened in February 1933
Fang Yexian was appointed as chairman and general manager
According to Li Kangnian,
the number of merchants who participated in the national goods company was originally nine
but soon increased to more than 30
More than 500 in half a year
More than 2,000 in a year
After the Japanese occupation of Shanghai in 1937,
Fang Yexian refused to be the minister of industry of Wang Jingwei's government
and was assassinated in 1940
After that, Li Kangnian became the head of Shanghai Chinese National Goods Company
Li Kangnian also founded three very influential companies
respectively in 1938, 1940, and 1941
Cuizhong Towel Factory, China Middle Factory, and Hongxin Sock Factory
Due to the good management,
the main products of the three companies
such as Chinese 414 towels, 35 clocks, and Dog Head Socks
were all brand products at that time
After the CCP was established in 1949,
Li Kangnian became the leader of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China
He later served as a member of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China
He joined the Democratic Constituent Assembly in 1952
and later became a member of the People's Constituent Assembly of Shanghai
In 1954 and 1956, Li Kangnian was elected as a member of the People's Constituent Assembly of Shanghai
In 1956, the CCP completed three major reforms
on agriculture, handicrafts, and capitalist industrial and commercial industries
and decided to buy out the private stocks of the company's joint venture
At the same time, after the CCP liquidated the joint venture,
it confirmed that the private stock was 2.2 billion yuan
The CCP proposed that the government would buy out the private stock of the company's joint venture
at a 5% interest rate per year
The annual interest rate was not changed for seven years from 1956
If private industrial and commercial enterprises still have difficulties in life seven years later,
it can be extended for a period of time
The CCP identified those who took the interest rate as the asset class
In the company's joint venture, the CCP cadres have the final say on major issues
The asset class is discriminated against
On January 8, 1957, at the first meeting of the People's Constituent Assembly of Shanghai,
Li Kangnian submitted a proposal on fixed interest rates
He said that since the government proposed to buy out the private stock at a fixed interest rate of 5% per year,
it should be 20 years from 1956, not seven years
Li Kangnian's proposal is
that the government should issue a contract to buy out the private stock of industrial and commercial enterprises
and issue a fixed interest rate of 2.2 billion yuan
In 1956, the fixed interest rate in 1957 was issued and deducted
It was issued in January 1958 and was cashed in for 18 years
It was cashed in for 27.5 million yuan every quarter
It was cashed in for 11,000,000 yuan every year
It was cashed in for all of them in the fourth quarter of 1975
After the purchase of the private stock,
the industrial and commercial enterprises were changed to state-owned enterprises,
private personnel, and even public offices
Li Kangnian believes that in the industrial and commercial enterprises,
people who take fixed interest rates are no longer capitalists
He hopes that the government will cancel their asset class status
Li Kangnian's proposal was first discussed at the Shanghai People's Congress,
the People's Constituent Assembly of Shanghai, and the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce
It was later published in the Shanghai News Daily
and sought public opinion
Later, it was submitted by the People's Constituent Assembly of Shanghai to the People's Constituent Central Committee
and then distributed by the People's Constituent Central Committee to 17 provinces for special discussion
On May 17, 1957, the People's Daily published this 20-year proposal
for the whole society to discuss
The then Deputy Director of the Central Private Enterprise Bureau, Qian Jiaju,
believed that Li Kangnian's proposal was a show of pessimism
and wanted to live a life of poverty
Li Kangnian's mistake was that he considered China as a country that owes capitalists a debt
On June 6, Li Kangnian published the 20-year proposal again in the People's Daily
and refuted Qian Jiaju's view
He said,
I am 60 years old this year, can I live to be 80?
The children have graduated from college and become doctors
They won't want to
Besides, my salary is only 200-300 yuan a month
I have already paid off my debt
My family is not very poor
Why should I care about this?
Qian Jiaju thinks I want to live a life of poverty
He also believes that
Qian Jiaju equates property buyout with the reform of capitalists
It is a mixed policy
Property buyout should be calculated from the date of regular inflation
and should not be calculated from 1949, as Qian Jiaju said
He also specifically mentioned that
his advice was based on the People's Daily's opinion on November 22, 1955
Unified understanding, comprehensive planning
and serious work on the reform of the capitalist industrial industry
Looking back at the article published by Li Kangnian
After Li Kangnian's advice was published
Although many people opposed it
many small and medium-sized business owners agreed with his opinion
They believe that his advice is true
and truly represents the interests of the business world
From a practical point of view
Li Kangnian's questions are quite common
Shanghai is China's largest commercial city
There are tens of thousands of private and public businesses
More than 80% of them are small and medium-sized enterprises
In addition, most factories and shops have little capital
There are hundreds of shareholders
and even thousands of companies
For example, Li Kangnian's China Central Factory
When the company merged in 1954
the total capital was 3.6 million yuan
There were 754 shareholders
The average capital of each household was only 477 yuan
Li Kangnian was the first major shareholder
The capital was only 20,000 yuan
There were many small and medium-sized shareholders
The stock market was often scattered
The fixed interest rate was limited
and the receipt of documents was restricted
This was one of the reasons why Li Kangnian asked the bank
to pay the full deposit
However, on June 8, 1957
the CPC Central Committee issued a draft of Mao Zedong's
The Anti-Rightist Movement was officially launched
Li Kangnian's main speech
was recognized as anti-party, anti-socialist
and anti-Mao Zedong's right-wing speech
In May 1957
when the party approved and opposed
Li Kangnian's views
Mao Zedong and his secretary Lin Ke
privately commented that
the most advanced tool in the industrial and commercial world
is the asset class
The essence of proving independence has also been exposed
It has been a typical practice since 1956
Although Mao Zedong proposed
to buy private stocks
and even said to buy them all
Mao Zedong did not act according to the value law
but to eliminate the asset class politically
and to deprive the asset class economically
Li Kangnian was thinking with the mind of a businessman
He hoped that the CCP would deal with the interests of the country and the private sector
according to the principle of contract
and to free itself from the shackles of the stagnant class relationship
to obtain an equal citizen status
Li Kangnian's ideas and Mao Zedong's ideas
are two sides of the same coin
Li Kangnian was one of the top ten right-wingers
He was promoted from the general manager of the company
Later, all his positions were cancelled
and he was commissioned to work in a factory in Shanghai
In 1958, the Shanghai industrial and commercial world
including Li Kangnian and his nephew Lin Bingwei
killed 2,704 right-wingers
Li Kangnian's second son is a doctor in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
His fourth son works in the Chinese Academy of Medicine
He is from Ningbo and his Mandarin is not good
His second son and fourth son have to read materials for him at the meeting
His second son and fourth son were also beaten into right-wingers
His youngest son was charged with organizing a counter-revolution
and was sentenced to retirement
After that, for a long time
Li Kangnian's family's economic source was his eldest son
His eldest son graduated from Shanghai St. John's University Medical School
He went to the United States to be a doctor before 1949
Li Kangnian often sent money to Shanghai through the route of a Chinese factory owner
In 1964, Li Kangnian died in Shanghai due to a stroke
Mao Zedong once promised businessmen
that the CCP's bribery of private enterprises is real bribery, not deception
If you want to bribe, bribe to the end
Don't half bribe, half confiscate
In fact, the CCP's approach is half bribery, half confiscate
In the 1950s, Xuemu Qiao, who served as the director of the National Bureau of Statistics
indirectly admitted that the CCP's bribery of private enterprises
was an economic deprivation of large commercial enterprises
He pointed out that after implementing a 5% fixed interest rate
the original owner's income was greatly reduced
Second, the fixed interest rate from 1956 to 1966
took a total of 10 years, only 50% of the original share
In other words, Li Kangnian's proposal was just telling the CCP the truth
But the CCP, who insisted on class struggle
took Li Kangnian's proposal as a crazy attack on the party of the rightist class
For a national capitalist like Li Kangnian
must be politically defeated and economically collapsed
Okay, that's it for today's show
Thank you for watching
See you next time
