In today's vlog we commit to a 16 km hike up and down a mountain in Glacier National Park! We woke up early, as you can tell, and headed straight to Glacier from Golden. The drive through the mountains was absolutely beautiful too. Near the entrance of the park, to our surprise, there were ruins from a luxury railway hotel from the early 1900s. Unfortunately it was torn down in the 50s but wow, what an amazing retreat this would have been. We then started our hike, alone, through dense rainforest, clouds, and grizzly bear infested territory. Eventually we made it to the alpine, where the trees stop growing and snow covers the area for most of the year (except the summer). Once we made it to the top, we could see the nearby glaciers peaky out from behind the clouds. It was surreal!
Thanks for watching! 😄
We upload a new adventure 3 times a week while we travel, Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Noon ET!

👩❤️👨US: We met at LaSalle Secondary School in Kingston Ontario and we’ve been together for over 8 years now. Keith comes from a bilingual military family and Devon from a Kingston family of teachers. We made it through Queen’s University together where Keith studied Mechanical Engineering and Devon, Concurrent Education and Global Development. Right now we’re travelling across Canada in a Dodge Caravan for the entire month but come January 2022 we have bigger plans in mind. Our goal is to #travel full time, become #selfemployed, and #explore the world while sharing what we’ve learned and capturing our experiences. 🌎✈️📚
We made it!
Life is just better like this.
Good morning from another day from Vani.
We just got some gas, leaving Golden just for the day.
Today we are going to Glacier National Park to do a cool hike Emma recommended.
So it's like 16 kilometers.
It is a cold day.
We're going to be hiking Abbott's Ridge or Abbott Ridge.
Yeah so it'll be good.
It's looking a little cloudy or smoky.
I can't tell which.
I think it's cloudy right now but hopefully it'll clear up by the afternoon.
There's spray too.
Thanks Emma.
So we're good.
Get to the trailhead.
So we are starting our hike to the Glacier House and then look at me I'm doing a Devon.
And then up to Abbott Ridge.
It looks pretty clear.
Clearest it's been in a bit.
So hopefully we'll have some views at the top.
Apparently you can see like train tracks from above and pretty cool views all around.
If there weren't any clouds.
This would be a pretty sick view.
We've got a long hike ahead of ourselves.
We do.
We have quite some time.
Off we go.
A 90-room hotel complete with bowling alley and observation tower once stood in this quiet
clearing.
Operated by the Canadian Pacific Railway from 1887 to 1925 it was used as a base by
mountaineers, adventurers and sightseers from all over the world.
During those years it provided a small island of civilization in the remote wilderness of
Glacier National Park.
And right here at the entrance there's a bear tent where they tell you about bears and being
careful.
That's why we have our bear spray.
And you record your observations here which is pretty neat.
Sweater.
It's going in already.
It's a hot one.
Same.
What's in here?
This is pretty beautiful.
It's pretty steep right off the bat.
But very easy trail.
What are you doing Dev?
Yeah.
Just at 1500 meters in altitude up the mountain.
Definitely affects your breathing.
Picking is a good workout.
It's steamy.
Actually though my glasses are getting steamy.
Also when was the last time I took my shirt off for the vlog?
It's a while ago.
There you go.
He's back.
Shirtless Keith.
Life is just better like this.
More trees, more path.
Let's keep going.
So we made it to our first stop.
We're going to keep hiking though.
Maybe stop here on the way down.
But there's a lovely lake right in the middle of the mountains.
If you're wondering there's service here.
Keith is facetiming his cousin who used to live in the area.
Pretty funny.
Just in the middle of the mountain.
Just the two of us and our cell phone.
Pretty cool.
We have two paths.
The long way or the short way?
We are going to take the short way.
Apparently this will give us an extra like two kilometers, three kilometers, something like that.
So we don't need that.
Also we're adjusting to the altitude, aren't we?
Bear call.
Water break.
It's a bit eerie, I'm not gonna lie.
We're a little in the middle of nowhere.
In the clouds.
Looks like grizzly territory in the clouds.
Good break.
Back to the hike.
We're still walking.
We're more than halfway for sure.
I think halfway was a bit before our snack.
Look the clouds coming in.
That's a cloud moving towards us.
Hopefully it just goes right over us.
Then we'll be able to see.
That's the goal.
I really want to see.
It's gonna happen.
It's going to happen.
Right?
Yes.
But I'm speaking it into existence.
We are going to be able to see the view.
We'll just chill and have lunch for a bit.
When Devin speaks it into existence, it happens.
So I'm happy.
We're going to see the mountains then.
So this is the map.
This is where we're parked, where we started.
Thanks Emma for the...
For the zap.
Yeah, for the zap.
And so if you zoom in, the blue dot is obviously us.
So we've just done all of this little area.
And we still have this ziggy zaggy thingy to get to the top.
So we got some steep, steep, steep stuff coming up.
Can't wait.
But look how cool this area is.
We see a mountain.
We see a glacier.
Oh my gosh.
The mountains will come out.
Today.
The sun will come out soon.
So I think we're at that spot on the mountain where...
Just like that.
Look, they're gone.
Like that's nuts.
Oh wow, they are gone.
We got lucky there.
Hopefully it's gradually, gradually making our way above the clouds.
But these clouds are high, so I doubt it.
We were singing, here comes the sun, and here comes the sun.
We're starting to get a view there of the valley, the Trans-Canada, the glacier behind us.
Yeah, we didn't even know it was there then.
Wow.
Oh, it's amazing.
It is so fun hanging in these mountains.
It is so cool.
Here comes the sun.
We made it.
We can't see anything, but it's okay.
I got almonds for this little guy.
They're my almonds.
What the heck, man?
We're on a cliff.
I think if there weren't any clouds...
This would be a pretty sick view.
It'd be like a 360 degree view of everything.
We're literally in the middle of a cloud, but we're gonna take our time and eat and
hope that maybe the clouds go away while we're eating.
Yeah, maybe put a shirt on.
Yeah, you might want to put two shirts on.
Little cold up here.
What do you call these little chipmunks?
Alpine chipmunks?
Just enjoying the view.
Actually, it's disappearing again.
You got food in your face.
Well, I'm enjoying the sandwich.
I have my one sandwich.
Now we're to the second one.
Alpine chipmunks are hanging out with us.
Yep.
They almost attacked the camera.
We haven't seen the view behind us, but maybe it'll appear.
Yeah, but we're enjoying these.
We got front row seats to these mountains right here.
Front row seats.
No, can't complain.
This is great.
We're seeing the peak of that mountain for the first time, I think.
We've been at the top of the mountain for about an hour, enjoying the view,
hoping the other side would appear.
Hanging out with the alpine chipmunks.
It did not appear.
It got really cold too.
So we are going to head back down and then we'll probably get back hopefully not too late.
To the path.
Go, Keith, go.
Don't fall.
Just so excited that there are more mountains we are seeing.
That's all I just wanted to update you that I knew it was going to happen,
but the sun came out sort of and we can at least see this way now.
No mountains, no views.
I can't get over this.
I'm so excited.
I honestly feel like I'm in the sound of music right now.
The hills are alive with the sound of music.
With songs they have sung for a thousand years.
Keith's like, Devon, what are you doing?
And we finished the rock portion of our hike and we're heading into forest territory.
We're hopefully...
Oh, go ahead.
Sorry, I was just going to say it's kind of funny.
It's like some sort of cartoon map where you draw a line and it changes sort of the ecosystem
because now we're in the jungle.
And a second ago we were like in grizzly rock territory.
Well, grizzlies could still be here too.
Yeah, I know, but it's just so different.
No, it is very cool.
It's very foresty now and meadows, rocks, meadows, rocks, forest.
It's amazing.
We made it.
We're just on the bottom little trail that leads right to Vanny.
And time check, it has been two hours and four minutes.
Did not take too much time to get down and the view's gotten nicer.
So we actually stopped a few times on the way down.
Quite a, yeah, quite a few.
So we got a good Instagram picture, I think.
Success.
We also found out, and it was a beautiful hike.
Sorry to interrupt.
We found out that those little alpine chipmunks, we called them, are called pikas.
Yes.
I always forget.
I just realized this water is from Dinosaur Park, a bit of a ways away.
We made it back to Golden.
Back home.
We are parked in our home for the last two nights.
We're going to spend a third night here.
Right here on a suburban street.
But surrounded by beautiful mountains.
Surrounded by beautiful mountains.
So this is where Jack, Meg, and Emma live.
And we are going to be spending the day with them tomorrow and this evening.
We're going to be rafting tomorrow.
Yes.
So I'm super excited to capture that.
So that's going to be really cool.
Yeah.
Jack's a rafting instructor.
And he's taking us.
And we're going to go with his whole family.
Yeah.
So it's going to be sick.
Super exciting.
So it was a big hiking day.
So we're going to end our video here.
It was.
And it just hit us.
Yeah.
The fatigue just hit us in the grocery store.
We were picking up some food.
Yeah.
So thanks so much for watching.
Sorry we didn't end the video at the hike.
We thought we were going to push through and do fun things tonight.
But I think it's just going to be a chill night.
It's late.
I mean, we actually lost an hour when we went there.
And then we gained an hour again.
So we actually got confused by the time change.
It's six o'clock.
So I think the night's almost over for us.
So thank you so much for watching.
If you're in the area, do the hike.
It was great.
Oh yeah.
That's the real technique.
None of this locked me.
Whoa, the side to side shuffle.
So you're kind of like you're skiing.
