Very nice.
We made it!
Look at that filling.
Oh my gosh, this looks incredible.
Look at this.
Good morning Toronto!
The sun is just rising and you can see the beautiful sunrise reflecting on all the skyscrapers outside.
You can also feel how cold it is through the window.
Morning guys, welcome to the first official day here in Canada.
So we are in Toronto for one more night tonight and we head out tomorrow to Calgary to do our little Canadian Rocky Road trip.
But we thought we would do a little food tour today, which is one of my favourite things to do.
Starting with breakfast. So we wanted to see what a Canadian breakfast is like.
Hopefully get some maple syrup on something.
This is where we're heading right now, the Sunset Grill.
Apparently it's on this road and it's got famous all-day breakfasts and there's loads around Toronto.
So we're going to start with here. Let's go, shall we?
It's currently minus two today but I haven't got my arctic duvet on at the minute.
I feel warm enough as it is but we are all wrapped up.
It's a really beautiful day. It's nice and sunny.
This looks nice.
Oh my gosh, 1,709 calories but it does look divine.
One dollar each for pancakes? What the heck?
Thank you. Oh, good thank you. Cheers.
This is one thing you need to lay off.
So it looks like they do a whole range of different types of breakfast.
Egg sunset? I've not heard of that before.
Salmon egg sunset, egg Florentine.
They've got yogurts and stuff.
And then they also have a massive thing of pancakes, waffles and French toast on the back.
Look at that menu.
I'm excited to try the maple syrup. You can smell it from here and it smells so good.
Oh, that's a lot of maple syrup there.
Potatoes on there.
Maple syrup is so good though.
It's a bit lukewarm, isn't it?
I don't know why syrup works so well with bacon but it does.
Oh, the eggs are a little bit snotty though.
I should have asked for them while gone.
So we haven't had a proper coffee yet but we noticed next door there was a Timmy's.
So we're going to get our first Timmy's of the trip.
Now truth be told, I've actually had a Timmy Hortons before because we actually have one in our local area.
But we're going to try it right here in Canada.
So let's go, shall we?
So we've got two little Timbits.
We've got a plain donut one and a birthday cake one.
I then got an original ice cap, this is called.
And Dean got an iced brownie.
Very nice.
I don't know if I'm going to be able to drink these coffees because they're a little too sugary for me.
And they're making my heart race like crazy.
Anyway, next up we're going to walk through a market.
Does he have to do the whole thing?
We were just put into this cute little park.
It's got hand sculptures.
It's also got a massive water fountain in the centre.
There's also a Christmas decoration store.
And it's February.
That is a chubby pigeon.
Maybe they've got extra padding and extra coats on because it's Canadian.
Oh, it's a dog fountain and there's a bone on the top of the head.
And we made it to St Lawrence Market.
And that's where we're heading first, Paddington's.
Apparently it's home to the famous pea meal bacon sandwich.
So that is what we're going to try.
It looks huge as well.
It's this massive building just here.
Let's go.
There it is.
Oh, it's actually Paddington Bear or kind of Paddington Bear.
Maybe an adult version or something.
Maybe his uncle.
Check this out.
It's in a massive hall.
We've got loads of different foods and delicacies.
This looks like the pea meal ham that we're going to try.
What the heck? There's even a downstairs in here.
Cheeses.
Apples over here as well.
Oh my gosh.
Check out those cinnamon rolls.
Whoa, Dean, look at these.
Cheddar cheese cradle?
What the heck's a cradle?
Stuffed peppers and stuff.
Look at them.
How are we going to get one though?
They're like stacked perfectly.
Should we get some for the room?
I want these ones, but how do you get these without ruining them?
Thank you.
Thanks.
Bye.
Oh, Dean, should we try a butter tart?
Look at that.
I've never seen one of them before.
Kind of looks like maple syrup on the inside there as well.
So we're going to get a butter tart.
I'm pretty sure it's a Canadian cuisine,
but we're going to try it after we try the pea meal sandwich,
bacon sandwich.
All these pastries and stuff, they always look so good.
Dean is a proper sweet tooth.
Loves dessert.
So do I, but I can't handle much of it.
Look.
King cheesecake.
Wow.
Thank you.
Just the marmalade, please.
Thank you.
All right.
Pea meal is basically the bacon inside and the cooked it.
It's warm.
And the recommended marmalade with it.
So I've got it with marmalade.
I've never had anything like that before.
So I'm going to give it a try.
It's on a really soft, white, squishy bread.
It's really good.
Look how much bacon you get in there.
It is like wrapped bacon.
It's so weird because you wouldn't think marmalade would go with bacon,
but the sweet offsets it.
So it's like syrup almost.
You know, like sweet and salty.
Downstairs.
And see what the shops are like down here now.
Got some famous Italian sandwiches.
Ooh, more cakes and pies.
Eve's Temptations.
I think I'll have the butter tarts.
This one looks a little more fancy than the other one.
I like the way it's, like, raw shaped.
I like the way they've done it.
It looks like it's got, like, maple syrup inside it.
Smells really good.
Look how sugary it looks.
Look at that filling inside there.
It's, like, pure syrup.
So for me, that was a no for me because it's too thick of syrup.
But Dean, if it's polishing off, he seems to really like it.
Wondered what that incredible smell was.
And there's a coffee roaster with all different coffee beans.
I love coffee.
Oh, my God, this smells incredible, but we can't take it home.
We've got to take it to our family.
Maybe we should buy some of this.
But the smell of coffee makes my pupils dilate.
Canadian maple.
Canadian maple coffee.
Oh, it smells so good.
Am I just standing here all day?
Should I get a little moose bag jam?
What?
I'm trying to decide which one I should get.
The little moose one.
So cute.
Oh, look, apparently the national animal of Canada is actually a beaver.
I'm pretty sure.
My little penguin guy isn't forgotten about.
It's just stuffed away and I need to fix him.
Also, I was really confused the other day, right?
I actually thought Brother Bear was Canadian.
And it's one of my favourite Disney movies.
Me, my mum, my brother and sister used to watch it all the time.
And I found out it's actually Alaskan.
So I was confused because I was like, I'm pretty sure the moose on Brother Bear are Canadian.
I mean, I'm not a bear.
I hate bears.
Well, gee, eh?
You're one big beaver.
Don't kid me.
I'm here.
So, anyway.
I'm really full.
But we still need to find somewhere that does poutine.
I like that I've got a new little bestie with me.
Lighting around here is like a photographer's dream.
Because the glass of the massive skyscrapers right here is mirroring the sun and reflecting on all this.
Making it look so, so pretty.
And then we've got the Skytree.
That one's called, I don't think it's called that.
CN Tower, that's it.
Tokyo Skytree, that looks like that.
But, I don't know.
Look how pretty the lighting is.
Ooh.
There's a painting of like the Rocky Mountains on the entrance here.
How cool is that?
Ooh, this looks nice.
Should we get a cocktail from here?
There's Concierge and the Belle Desque.
And here is a nice looking cocktail bar.
We're just sitting in the lobby and we're waiting for our spot to the library bar.
Because they had a wait list and said it was between half an hour.
So, just people watching from the Fairmont.
It's really fancy here.
Dean feels a bit underdressed because he's in Traffy Spot.
Who cares?
While we wait, I'm going to try this Canada Dry Real Ginger Ale.
It's nice, Dean.
I think you should try it.
Mmm, smells great.
Mmm.
Why does that taste a bit like milk tea?
Even though it's from Canada Rail.
Do you know what I find fascinating?
If you look at this floor, look at this individual mosaic on the floor.
Someone's had to piece by piece lay down the mosaic of this floor.
Look at that.
Like the artistry that goes on in there.
I keep zooming into this camera.
I feel like we don't do things like this anymore.
Like the individual laying of the tiles like that.
It's really, really cool to see.
But it must cost a lot of money.
£85 for a cocktail.
Holy smokes.
£100 for a cocktail.
Come on.
So we just finished up in the Fairmont.
And the sun is beginning to set.
And Toronto is looking absolutely magnificent.
And we still need to try poutine.
So I tried that Caesar cocktail.
And it was nice.
But it was like drinking a cold, spicy mugshot.
Not complaining.
It was nice.
But I probably wouldn't order it again.
I only ended up drinking half of it.
Because I am kind of on an alcohol fan at the minute.
But I did just want to try it out of curiosity.
Anyway.
Now we are going to head for poutine.
Look how beautiful it looks with the sun setting in the background.
Poutine.
Yay, poutine.
We made it to the poutine place.
Look at this.
Look at these on the wall.
Oh my gosh.
This looks incredible.
These are so, so heavy.
Look at this.
We've got the traditional poutine.
With gravy and cheese curds and chips.
And then we've got the avalanche one.
Which has pulled pork and bacon.
And ranch dressing on.
Oh my god.
These look so awesome.
And then Dean got a little side of tater tots.
I don't know why.
Because this is a lot of food.
I've had these before actually in Disney World.
Proper wholesome and the cheese is proper squeaky.
It kind of reminds me of Finland.
You know when we got the squeaky cheese.
We did a Finnish food tour if you want to check that out in Lapland.
And they did a dessert called squeaky cheese.
And it's like that squeaky.
I can imagine when you're drunk on a night out.
This would be really, really tasty.
And like really good to eat.
Let's try this avalanche one.
This looks really good.
It's got loads of pulled pork in.
Mmm.
The avalanche one.
We've got a full bag of poutine.
Poutine.
I really like that poutine.
I think that was a good shout.
Going to an actual poutine-ery.
Anyway.
Literally I've gone through so many batteries.
And I think it's because it's the cold weather.
We had a fun time trying loads of Canadian foods.
We've actually just requested a late checkout at 1pm.
Because we're not flying until midnight tomorrow night.
You've got a bit of fluff on you.
What was your favourite dish of the day, Dean?
I think mine was the poutine.
The butter tart.
Oh yeah.
I didn't like that, did I?
We're going to have a lazy day tomorrow.
Then we're going to fly to Calgary.
Pick up the car.
And then we're going to drive to Banff.
After sleeping overnight.
Because I do not want to drive in the middle of the night.
In snowy weather.
Across the Rocky Mountains.
So watch out for that if you want to see what happens.
Thanks so much for watching.
I love you.
Goodbye.
