THANKS FOR WATCHING! Now Let's Go Explore!
Hey fellow riders, today I'm riding the back roads of Orlando on my way
to the shuttered Walt Disney World. Let's go check it out, starting right now on Motor Travel USA.
So I'm riding through Windermere, Florida. It's kind of a back way to Walt Disney World,
mostly the employees entrance. Really nice town, probably one of the most,
if not the most expensive towns in the Orlando area. A lot of athletes live back here.
Tiger Woods used to live back here before all that drama started.
Anyway, that's not what this video is about. This video is about Walt Disney World and that it's
closed. Everybody knows why. I'm not going to go into that. I'm not going to provide
commentary of that. There's enough news about what's going on. But I am super curious as to
what Walt Disney World looks like. Recently it's pretty busy all the time with people coming down
to visit, people who work there. So I am super curious to see what it looks like with all the
theme parks closed down. If you're ever in the Orlando area, this is a pretty cool place to ride.
Not a long route by any means and you want to avoid it during rush hour. It is well manicured
and the roads are well maintained back here. Check out this house to the right. Kind of looks like
Mount Vernon, George Washington's house in DC. Right on the lake. They deck that thing out
at Christmas time. And then right up here to the left, Islesworth community. That's where Tiger
Woods lived for a long time before all the drama happened for him. A lot of, like I said, a lot of
athletes live back here. And there, if you're looking for a house, there is one right up here
on the right hand side with the blue roof. That's Shaquille O'Neal's house. You can kind of see it
beyond the bushes. If you have a spare 21 or 25 million dollars laying around, you could buy his
house. Has a basketball court, huge garage to store your toys, and right on the lake. Oh, and also
this is Monday, the first day that the theme parks are closed at both Walt Disney World and
Universal. This road is usually jam-packed around this time with people commuting.
They've developed a lot back here, not only in Windermere, but surrounding towns. And this is
kind of one of the connecting roads to both Disney and Universal. So this usually gets backed up
considerably at this time and it's quite dead right now. This is more like a Sunday drive.
The way I'm entering Walt Disney World is a back entrance. It's really not for tourists at all and
I highly doubt any tourists would go back there. This is a worker's entrance because I wanted to
see what the parking lot looks like. Are people still showing up to work with the theme parks
closed or are they staying home and away from the theme parks since they are closed? Now right up
here is we're coming up on Walt Disney World. Now for the longest time they had a single entrance
for employees back here. One way in, one way out, and it would get backed up. Must have been around
since the 1970s right where those yellow cones are. And this would get backed up at rush hour
really throughout the day. But luckily within the last year or two they built this light up here
so it's a lot easier for people to get in and out of Walt Disney World. All right so this is the
entrance for employees and typically this parking lot is jam-packed.
Both sides. There's two sides to this. The right and to the left. This thing is typically jam-packed
and I'll show you the footage from yesterday where people were here working. It is absolutely empty.
That is crazy. There are a handful of people here but for the most part it is empty.
This parking lot's huge because Magic Kingdom must have such a large workforce. It's open for
so many hours a day and people are constantly coming in and out. And people are working 24
hours a day there. They have people coming at night to clean. This is where they bring the
monorails at night to clean them. And kind of interesting coming up here to the right is the
new Tron ride. The building is humongous. It's right next to Space Mountain. I really know
nothing about it except the size of that building and that you can see some track
dotting out to the right. Looks like construction workers are working. Looks like people are at the
hotels. There's a cop right there. Oh my god that parking lot is never empty. That's the
Contemporary Resort. You can tell people are leaving and I just read this morning that hotels
are closing. I think Friday or Saturday this week. Unfortunately I did read as well that
Walt Disney World has a college program where college kids can come and for a couple months
work at Walt Disney World. Get some training, leadership training and live at Disney owned
apartments. But unfortunately they've canceled the program as of today and the kids have two days to
get out. That's insane. Thank god I don't have a kid there. I think that's a little unfair for
two days. I understand it's extreme circumstances but they are college age kids and this area and
this road are usually crazy busy at this time. That's the Magic Kingdom parking lot to the right
and as expected there is absolutely no one there. The trams are parked. There's one car.
Haven't seen a monorail. Usually you would see a monorail but the parking lot is absolutely empty.
Let's go a couple more back roads and head to another main road here. It's good to see some
workers are still out like construction and stuff and that everything hasn't come to a standstill.
But yeah it is it's totally different than a normal day. It's significantly different than
yesterday. That is the entrance where you pay for parking at Magic Kingdom. You will never see it
that empty unless you come at 3 a.m in the morning. Now this is another one of those cool back roads
at Walt Disney World near the campground. Not many people know about it. It's not really a main
thoroughfare as of yet but again there's usually traffic on here. If you do ride back here you
will sometimes get the opportunity to see lots of deer and wildlife. That's the campground right
there. Looks like they have police stationed at entrances. I saw one with lights at Walt Disney
World. It looked like one was there. I couldn't tell if that was a Walt Disney World security or not.
Now up here on the left if you do have a couple millions sitting around that you want to spend
this is Golden Oak I believe and multi-million dollar homes right on Walt Disney World property.
Part of the perks of the yearly fees you get chauffeur service to the theme parks and theme
park entrance. So if you feel like living on Disney property and want those perks and have
a couple million bucks laying around you might want to check those out. Now I'm starting to get
closer to the mainstream roads. Port Orleans is over there to the left. I still see some cars
parked in there. I think that's the first bus I have seen because as of right now the hotels
and shopping are still open. That's the Walt Disney World kennel so if you want to bring your dog
your dog can stay there. But yes this road is typically a lot busier and if you've been to
Walt Disney World or driven around here there are typically Walt Disney World buses all over
the place all the time so to only see one I'm curious as to how many they have running right
now. Now the road I'm coming up to this is definitely a main road to the left would be
Disney Springs the shopping complex at Walt Disney World and to the right is MGM Studios a bunch of
hotels and you can get to Epcot this way as well. But this road is typically crazy busy
with people. This is kind of one of the main roads here at Walt Disney World.
Some bikers taking advantage of the lack of traffic. To the left there that used to be the
entrance to Caribbean Beach. It is now the entrance to the Riviera Resort which has many more floors
than most Disney hotels. Oh wow the gondolas are gone. The gondolas aren't running and they've
taken them down and off. There's the gondola right there. I will show some footage of that from
yesterday but ever since a couple months ago when that opened up gondolas have been running on that.
So at this time daily this area would be hopping. This road over to the right would
be super busy. That's the entrance to Magic Kingdom and Epcot. You ride down that road
that's the main road and I saw one car looking quickly. Over to the right is Coronado Springs.
They just opened a new hotel that high-rise hotel right there. I don't think they called
that something different like they did at the Caribbean Beach one. I think that's just
considered Coronado. Wow. It's not as eerie as I thought it would be but it is
very weird to see the little activity. The parking lot's empty. So there still is activity
but not a ton and like I said it's super eerie seeing the parking lot's empty. Hopefully this
thing somehow blows over quickly and things can get back to normal. With Disney and Universal
closed that's not a good thing for the Orlando economy. And once it's blown over make sure to
come and visit. Support these theme parks and the families and people that work here.
All right I had to change battery. This GoPro with the Media Mod eats batteries up.
What I was saying before the battery died. Let's go check out around the Universal Orlando area.
It's only a couple minutes away from Walt Disney World and I'm already headed that way.
Let's go check it out. Actually inside the parking garage looks kind of busy.
Surprisingly Universal's parking lot has quite a few cars in it. This is where employees park
and both the parking garage and the parking lot are very similar to what it was yesterday.
Although it does look like it ends over there and there are some opened up. Definitely more
cars than I expected. That is a good thing as well in my opinion. Means people are working.
Little emptier over here but not by much. But there's still a ton of cars and maybe the parking
garages don't have a ton of people. But yeah that's a little different. There's some open spaces there
and now I'll head over through Universal Orlando's main artery.
So this is typically where you would come as a visitor and at this point in time it
would be busy out here. Looks like landscapers are working. Definitely come April or whenever
this opens up make sure you visit. There's gonna be a lot of people impacted by this.
So that would usually be backed up. This gets into the parking garage
up here to the left so for it to be deserted. That's the valet parking. No cars parked in the
valet parking. People would be streaming down that at this point. Buses over there.
This is more eerie than Disney because this road is typically a pretty busy road.
As is this one. So there's the Hulk roller coaster if you can see it.
The lighthouse that you see before you go into Islands of Adventure.
And then they put a lot of hotels back here. So that's why this road is usually jam-packed
but not today. This light is the main artery off of I-4. Would typically be backed up.
Very interesting to see. So there you go. That's what Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World
looks like when they're closed down. Pretty unique and sort of eerie. Definitely make sure once
this all passes over come down and visit Orlando. A lot of people are going to be impacted by this
and the best way to get stuff moving is to come and visit. This is going to be a lot of lost money
and it's going to take some time to recover. But if people come and visit,
take advantage of the awesome theme parks and everything down here, it'll happen sooner.
Well I hope you enjoyed this look at Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World as they are
shuttered for a few weeks. If you found the video interesting please give it a thumbs up
