New season, new era for the Albion. Fabian Herzler's first game in charge is at Goodison
Park to face Everton as he becomes the first Premier League manager born after the competition
started in August 1992. Tarkovsky looks long and he finds his target which is Jack Harrison
against Hinshawood. Harrison forcing the first save of the game from Steele. Tarkovsky going long,
great control from Harrison always looking to get it in on that left foot and it forced
a good save from Steele. First corner of the afternoon to be whipped in by McNeil
and it's nudged across and it's in but it's been ruled out. Harrison who forced the save
to win the corner has been denied the opening goal by the offside flag. Oh Tarkovsky's missed it
and he's brought his man down as he Simon Hooper says no. Brighton want a penalty. Tarkovsky making
a complete mess of it and now de Couree first clear and Everton could be in. What seems here
at Goodison Park McNeil, he's hit the post and across. How have they missed? Brighton think they
should have had a penalty. Everton should certainly have scored from the counter-attack that resulted.
It may well have been another offside decision but they work to know de Couree across to McNeil
and he misses it twice with the goal gaping. Here's the penalty shout. Pedro going down.
Simon Hooper saying absolutely not and he was certain about that. Oh what a fast-paced start
we've had here. Now Pedro, Pedro lining one up and he's cracked the post. It's all happening at
Goodison Park. Last season's top goal scorer Joao Pedro taking aim and hitting the base of the post with
Pickford well beaten. Harrison again this time Mitoma helping out and good vision from Vifa.
Mitoma sets off and he runs at the heart of the Everton defence. Now Welbeck, Minte up against
Mikalenko. Minte goes on the outside beautiful work and a brilliant finish at the back post.
The Fabian Herzler era is up and running thanks to Kaoru Mitoma. It was a thrilling counter-attack.
Brighton cutting through the Everton defence. Mitoma starting it. Minte going on the outside.
The perfect cross. Brilliant work from Minte. No mistake from Mitoma. They are a goal to the good
On opening day at Goodison Park and Kaoru Mitoma is back.
Erebunum, useful looking cross but headed clear. Drops again and he
lashed that one. Goldwoods always on the rise though. Eyes firmly on the ball trying to keep
it down but couldn't quite get it underneath the crossbar. Harrison up against Hinshawood.
It's looped up off Hinshawood here. Great tackle. A saving tackle by Minte as Mikalenko
went to pull the trigger. Minte's hurt himself in the process. It was brave
from the winger. Minte looks in some pain still. Minte double thumbs up. He says he's okay
but we are going to see a change. Vancouver Minte will have his debut cut short before half-time
due to injury. Come on FIFA. Getting himself in trouble there. Serious trouble as Harrison crosses.
Calvin Lewin goes down and the referee points to the spot. Just a minute and a half into the second
half. Lewis Dunn wants it checked. No. Penalty is the decision. A reprieve for Brighton. Oh given away
so simply, so easily. The break is on. Welbeck charging through Odingra to his right. Welbeck
it'll go. Places it to perfection. Danny Welbeck doubles Albion's lead. A simply brilliant finish.
Oh that was class from Danny Welbeck. FIFA with the pass. Welbeck saw it all open up.
Ignored all the options because he had that in his locker. Waited for the movement. Look at the
space. Look at the time and look at the finish. Dunn switching it and Matoma racing onto it.
He's pulled back by Ashley Young who could be in trouble here. It is a red card for Ashley Young.
Clear foul. Simon Hooper was decisive in his decision making and Kaoru Matoma causing havoc
in the Everton defence again. The opening day goes from bad to worse for Sean Dyche and his side.
2-0 down and now a man down. Does James Milner fancy this one? Yet to score in an Albion shirt
but he goes short to Matoma and another save is forced. Good strike as well from Matoma. Slightly
behind him. Oh misplaced pass. Matoma's onto it and Matoma away from Harrison. He's got Pedro in
the middle and Pickford's there. Looking for Pedro but Pickford so quickly off his line.
Absolutely had to be there. It's been a stroll in the Merseyside sunshine and it might get worse
for Everton here as Odingra comes forward and Odingra slots it. Beautiful from Simon Odingra.
Albion have their third and it is a convincing win to start the Fabian Hertzler era.
Everton carved open and Odingra doing it all on his own when he collected from this pass.
Time, space and a brilliant finish into the bottom corner from Simon Odingra.
Odingra, Gilmour threads it for Odingra. Could be in again here. It's four and it's Yassin Ayari's
first goal for the Seagulls. Although VAR are definitely having a look and this one might be
chalked off. Looks it to the naked eye that he was offside and that is confirmed and Simon Hooper
obliges. It's the perfect start for Fabian Hertzler and the Albion. A convincing win to start the
season thanks to goals from Kaoru Matoma, Danny Welbeck and Simon Odingra. Early Everton pressure
gave way to complete control for the Seagulls who enjoy a fourth consecutive opening day win.
It ends at Goodison Park. Everton nil, Albion three.
