Four years ago we bought this piece of land,
and so far we've been discovering ruins,
building structures, regenerating the land
and eating healthy to try another way of living.
But summer is here and that brings lots of challenges for us.
In this video we're going to play with fire.
We're gonna try it out.
And plants and water.
Starting with our underground piping system.
So here an update on our pipe system that we worked on a few updates ago.
Because you guys left a few comments didn't you?
So this is the pipe I'm talking about and
just to quickly summarize what happened.
We found these tubes in the land.
Then we realized one tube is here and we cut it open
and then we realized there's another tube inside.
So we tried to get that out, tried pulling it by hand.
Didn't really work, tried with the pick up.
Eventually it didn't come out and we
chopped it off and we installed this connector.
So then we could open and close the water and water comes out.
All good, no problem. But towards the end of the video we realized
there's actually a little bit of a leak coming from somewhere here.
It starts.
So we have this comment here from madmodders
It feels like the big pipe is just used as a sleeve.
And then the small pipe is connected to feed the pipe.
So the water travels backwards.
This one got a lot of people commenting on that as well.
You're so right, you're totally right.
My first thought with this tube.
So what basically has been suggested in the
comments is that because there's a road right here
that there are two pipes because the
outer pipe is there to protect the inner pipe.
Meaning that now the water might just flow through the inner pipe.
Then because this connector flows back to
the outer pipe and that's why it's leaking.
To be honest, I doubt this is true even though
Morning Glory Breakfast says this is absolutely true.
And tigerscion701, I completely agree.
A lot of people would agree with that.
But I doubt that that's the case.
And let me tell you why and let's also find out in this video.
So it's time to do a bit more digging.
And I already did a little bit because when I saw the pipe was leaking
I started opening up a little bit to see where it comes from.
And then I discovered the pipe.
And I also saw a few big cracks in there.
Where the water comes from.
And actually as I opened it up more water came to flow out.
So I used an old bike tire to wrap it around.
Just so it prevents a little bit of leaking.
Let's see.
So that went surprisingly badly and accepted.
Just a few drips here and there.
But almost no leaks.
For now.
Didn't fully stop it.
But enough for now.
But what I want to see next and the reason why I
think it's not an inner tube especially for the road.
Is because the tubes are all the same thickness.
Let me show you.
So this first tube is about 9 cm.
So it's a 3 inch pipe.
Here where the leak is, is the same diameter of tube.
Also a 3 inch pipe.
And finally here where there's a T.
This pipe is also a 3 inch tube.
So the thickness of the pipe from here going down is always the same.
So it makes me think that the water flowing here is also the water comes out.
Which still leaves me the question why would there be an inner tube.
That I don't know.
Since the pipe over there is still leaking a little bit.
And we're not really going to use this connector because there's a leak there.
And the community center is going to be renovated at some point.
I figured let's put this connector a little bit there higher before the leak.
So we can still close the whole system and use it.
And then we can also cut open that pipe
to see if there's this double pipe inside.
If it only goes until here.
I think then we would know.
And in principle we could cut it off right now here and put the connector on.
However I saw a bit of water coming up from a little bit higher.
So I'm going to dig it out a little bit more to put the ending valve there.
To make sure it doesn't continue leaking.
So let's see what we find.
Okay it's a double tube.
Now I don't know anymore what's going on.
Because in here it also a double tube.
So according to my logic this tube would not be there.
So I'm going to try to see if I can pull it out.
Because it should still be in but maybe then a very short amount.
That's what I'm guessing.
Oh it's like the last update all over again.
But maybe it's still going in for a little bit.
Could be.
So I'm going to try to see if I can pull it out.
Just to prove the point that it was
always the outer pipe and never the inner one.
But let's see if I'm right here.
I don't know it doesn't come out.
Okay YouTube maybe you're right. I don't know.
Need to think about this.
At the end Dave just installed a valve to close the system.
So we could use this to water the trees
that we conveniently planted around here.
But first we need to cut the grass around.
So here we are at the middle of the fruit tree area.
We planted here the fruit trees last
year and they have been growing quite well.
Some even appear already small fruits.
Look at this tiny fruit.
Here we are in the middle of one of the swells.
And in the winter and in spring the water would stand
up until here and it would stay for quite some days.
But as you might see it has been dry for
quite some weeks now and it's fully dried out.
So we are ready for some new rain.
But now it's also time to cut the grass.
So we left the grass until the seeds would spread and
now when they are spread it's time to brush cut them.
And we were going to leave the grass on the floor.
Ok, it was a bit more difficult shape than I thought.
But getting there is starting to rain a bit
so I'm not sure if I can finish for today.
But let's see.
The grass is cut and we will leave it here to cover the soil.
It's time to water the fruit trees.
So far we have been doing this with buckets.
But it's a ton of work.
So we will use the pipe system and connect the hose.
Now in order to use this valve in an appropriate way that doesn't splash out.
We need to install some connectors.
So we have a 2 to 1 inch connector we are going to put on top.
And on top of this one we have one to click the garden hose.
Because in that way we can just put the hose here on one of those plants.
So we don't have to use the buckets and we
don't need to use the water from the well,
that we first have to pump up.
We can use gravity to use the water from the pond.
It's much cooler.
So we are going to connect it and hopefully water.
Let's test our new tree watering system.
Time to connect the hose.
But let's first check if there is actually some pressure.
Be careful.
No.
No water.
Probably still clocked at the top.
Come.
So you go in.
So... no.
I don't want to get wet Gui.
What about you?
I think it float.
Oh f***.
Oh okay it's easy.
Yeah?
I feel it here.
It's out.
Yes!
No pressure.
Almost not.
Used to be more.
Absolutely.
I don't really know what is happening.
Can you see there?
A little hole.
Not really good.
I don't know what is.
Sad.
Very sad.
But then we saw it.
Oh my god.
No!
Oh it's even from before the pipe.
Oh there is leaks everywhere.
I think it's time to turn it off again.
Leaking a lot.
Leaking a lot and all going onto the road.
Not very good.
Okay.
Enough.
There is still pressure but there is a lot of water losing around it.
So I think we should turn it off before it gets to worse.
Oh it's even worse now.
Okay.
This didn't work.
I guess the pipe story will continue.
We played enough with water and we're going
into something more serious because we have
a lot of wildfires around here and it's high summer now.
And to take this risk a little bit down, Máté is
going to share you a bit about fire extinguishers.
As part of Project Kamp Fire Plan we have a system of fire extinguishers.
Which means five extinguishers spread around throughout Kamp.
We want to upgrade the system because we are growing, we have more people, more
projects, more buildings, which means more risks.
We want more coverage with the extinguishers.
So in a couple of places, we're going to place new ones.
We also want the fire extinguishers to be noticeable from afar.
So we're going to place some of these frames around them.
We also want to make sure that the fire extinguishers are easily accessible.
Also we're going to take care that the fire
extinguishers are not exposed to the sun or the rain.
Now that we have the plan, we're going to get
to work and for that I'm going to need some help.
Yay!
Boom!
This is really great!
Let's get to work.
So one of the places we're going to place a new
extinguisher is going to be the side of the landscaping container.
This part is full metal, very hard to work with.
We also don't really want to drill that much.
So here we came up with the idea to use a magnet.
So we ordered these magnets.
These are block magnets, not too big.
They should hold 28 kg and we're going
to use that on the side of the container.
Put the hanger of the extinguisher on the magnet and then
hang the extinguisher on the hanger so it stays in place.
So magnet first.
Careful because it's very strong.
Then the hanger piece.
And then finally...
The fire extinguisher.
Not working.
And the reason why it is not good is the magnet has a pulling force of 28 kg.
But it works different when it's on a sliding surface.
We are going to work something out to solve this problem.
Got it.
So to fix the sliding problem I made a
little frame that goes flush with the magnet.
Where we can screw the holder on which will make it stronger.
Let's do it.
So flush.
Now we put the frame and the magnet together.
Strong.
So now we have this frame hanger magnet beauty.
Still a strong magnet.
And then we're going to try it out.
And it's working.
Next one office.
Hanging.
-All done. -Working perfectly.
So to increase the visibility of the fire
extinguishers we are going to hang up this little guys.
And to make them look a little bit better we are going to use leftovers from
the old floorboards so that we can use the
groove that's already in it to put the signs in.
There's the groove already.
First step is to trim the board in the right size.
Now we're going to cut the sides of the frame to the final length.
So we have our 28 pieces to make the frames.
Now we're just going to sand the inside before gluing it up.
After the glue cured for the frames we sanded
them, oiled them and now they're ready to get hanged.
We're going to hang them.
For the metal surfaces we're going to use this
hook magnet and then use the rope that we put on.
Here we're going to use the existing bolt to fix the frame
with this rounded nut.
With the wood surfaces we're going to use this
little hook to put in and hang the frame upon.
Another hook, another frame.
This guy is just hanging outside.
He's very exposed to the rain and the sun which we want to avoid because the
rain makes it rusty in the metal parts.
And the sun can get these writings off.
So to avoid that we're going to make a roof above. Right here.
For that we're going to use some leftover HBL and wood.
So the structure of the tiny roof is done. We'll just have to fix it on the
toilet and add the panels and then we're done.
Perfect.
Now in the back.
These are very nicely out.
The roof is ready. Thank you Monique.
Run.
My pleasure.
Now we are much safer with these guys.
Let's hope we don't have to use them though.
We also explained to everybody at kamp how to properly use them.
Because fire risk starts to become a bigger concern as days become hotter we also
decided to re-clear the space behind Base Kamp.
This area should have the least mimosas possible
because of its proximity to Project Kamp center.
But enough to still provide shade for the growing trees.
By the way we did this some weeks ago already before chopping the big patch.
But it only made it into the video now.
So the plan is to only leave a few big
mimosas and make sure they are spaced out.
This one it's kind of sketchy. We don't want to hit the roof.
What does sketchy mean?
It's really really big.
And you don't want it to fall on the roof?
No.
Anselmo used his special cutting technique to cut
the tree in a way that doesn't fall in the container.
Let's see how it goes.
So the idea is we're going to pull it that way, and chop it.
But we're going to do the fancy square cut.
Come in.
It was okay.
No fancy fall.
No fancy fall but nothing got broke.
Well at least now we know that the roof is strong.
I'm sitting here by the lake. We've just
finished chopping all of the mimosas in the area.
And we're now going to try and make the space a bit more welcoming.
So there's a few bits of dead wood that we need to tidy up.
Some old dead wood.
And some old bits of pots.
Don't know what they're doing here but they won't be here soon.
And then the most important thing we're going to
do is we're going to build two steps just here.
So that it's easy to access this nice lovely grassy area.
Well you know, close enough.
So I just finished cutting these up.
These are going to be the stakes that go into the ground to hold the steps up.
I need to give them points on the end so they go in easier.
So that's what I'm going to do now.
Pretty good.
Just like that.
Only ten to go.
I think I'm going to need a shovel as well.
When I was digging I found this log.
Inside the log is this little beetle. He's running away now.
Take it all out.
Too wiggly. Question. Are these too wiggly?
Do they need to be closer together? Not sure.
This guy's a little spindly so there's hope that this guy will...
have a job. We love it is the answer. Sorry yeah we love it.
It's amazing. It's amazing. The best job. Marvelous.
New stairs.
To the lake.
Come on shirt's hat's done.
And I'm up. What do you think Anselmo? It's good. Good? Yeah.
Oh. Okay you are not allowed to use this.
So this was before,
and this is what it's now.
On the top of the world. How does it feel?
Great. Thank you Máté for your help.
Then we tidied up the area. First we moved all the roots and dead wood.
Come on Julie.
And Anselmo took out the brambles.
Spiky bushes. Yes.
And then we built a small flower bed.
Good.
Nice.
It looks really good already but the flower
bed only has a little oak growing in between.
So we want to give it a final touch.
With the roses we took from the Granite Ruin.
Okay we found a new home for some of the roses close to Base Kamp.
We're just going to dig some holes and replant them.
Perfect.
Also we can put that on top.
So some of the fruit trees that we took out from the ruin we put in pots.
Some we're going to try to plant in this space in front of the pond.
I just have a bit of compost which I'm going to put at the bottom.
And then the tree.
So we just finished planting some of the trees from the ruin.
We're not sure if they'll make it or not but
we'll see. We just need to give them some water.
And then we're done.
Hopefully the trees will thrive in their new home.
And that was it for this video. Hope you enjoyed it.
