so i do have a fun fact about this place
oh yeah
did you know that it was so large it had
its own zip code
really
true story
this looks like the whole front section
or is this the back now it's the back
entrance
that whole
three floors four floors
gone
and here's a closer look at there's the
pile of debris that's come down
from all those floors above
so this is all
buckled and of course you've got
asbestos
and
that paint
and you can smell the mold
so i don't think we'll be going oh this
one's in yeah really
rough shape we're brave but we're not
stupid
and there's a look at the collapse next
to us which means that this right here
is also more of a weak point
oh the birds like it though
now can you believe
we're finally gonna check out
a massive abandoned complex like this
yeah which you have come in and checked
out thoroughly beforehand i was going to
say for all you viewers out there we
have
scanned the place out checked for any
potential hazards
there are no no trespassing signs
and also
we did actually ask whether or not we
were allowed to come in here
and uh we were told
yes it's okay well it's just
the amount of decay and water damage
yeah
well at least the one thing is that
there's enough breeze coming through
that you don't smell the mold or the
mildew
so this was a
tuberculosis hospital built in 1906
i believe
1909 i do know by 1912 it had
12 patients
and then the following year
or by the 1920s it had 140 patients oh
wow
a lot of graffiti and peeling paint
not a great deal of artifacts though and
it looks like oh okay we may have our
first tunnel
yeah so there are several
buildings and like all tb hospitals
there was tunnels linking
building to building to building right i
do think most of the tunnels have been
blocked up
yeah it looks like this one
it just it goes up that way towards the
outside you can see light through here
and just a gentle ramp up
so the tunnels were to transport
patients weren't they so people couldn't
see those that passed so that the rest
of patients wouldn't get upset
so
you seen this
the brick oh wow
that's got writing on it
so they plastered over
and that one's got like an emblem
it is
does have some really unique
architecture like the brickwork back
here now
so this has got pretty now i would have
thought this was wallpaper but it's kind
of peeling
like
the paint would
yeah
you can see the miner so this is
wallpaper i can feel it yeah this is
more modern because it's got the steel
stud construction with the drywall
so after the
effect maybe
yeah because it looks like they closed
these two rooms off well this has got
the same so and people have been what
smashing it up to see if there's any
pipes underneath pipes i suppose
or just being
hooligans smashing things up
now i do have
some fun facts about this place
i wouldn't necessarily say it was fun oh
look at the wallpaper in here
so
yeah sadly
i think it was in 2001
a young urban explorer
came in he was 12
and plummeted to his death down an open
shaft oh
yeah that's the thing about these places
they are extremely dangerous and dark so
if you don't have proper lighting
and also if you don't know what you're
doing and you don't know what you're
doing yeah
so at one point i read that there was
900 patients oh but i read in another
article that there was
uh
1200 patients and only 400 staff
yeah that was the thing about these
places they were always overcrowded and
under run
okay it's this way
so after this place closed as a tb
hospital
it just
became a hospital but there was a
section called
sounds awful the school of the feeble
minded
hmm
interesting i don't think they'd be
allowed to get away with that these days
it's a bird
and this as you can see the entire
outside is or the roof has collapsed and
it's open to the outside elements
and of course the thing about some of
these places is they are amazing to
explore
but we won't show every single room
because it does start to get monotonous
after a while
as they just start to look exactly the
same
i wonder if this was a dumb waiter
or is that just a
a pipe
it's not big enough to be a dumb waiter
is it
although this hospital was for the
developmentally disabled looking at the
graffiti
i think a lot of these people needed to
be here
they've come to the right place
and of course it is meant to be
incredibly haunted as all these places
are yeah
who really knows
that it is just
strikingly beautiful to see the decay
nature taking back
we were going to venture up to the third
and final floor
just quickly
make sure we don't
miss anything
straight ahead that's open to the
elements
i've got a room
of the bath
as you can see in there
here's some birds behind me
i've got another small room
that's it in here
what do we have
to our right
now these are interesting just the small
access doors
in these closets here
and then this is a
very small
coat room
which opens up
to the last room
here on the top
from the third story window looking out
you can see there are some more
buildings
over there we're going to check out
as well as one of the main ones
so this place closed in 1992
because well several reasons the state
couldn't cover the costs it got so large
and uh
the patients weren't getting the care
that they deserved
so yeah close down yep it's unfortunate
but that seems to always be the case
okay around to the front or maybe this
is the back
but we were just discussing also so
this hospital had 400 staff for about
1200 1300 patients
right so and then that staff had to be
divided up into people who
one maintain the patients the doctors so
doctors nurses
then you've got the maintenance people
the grounds
groundskeepers cooks cooks laundry staff
so i mean
the people that actually looked after
the patients
was divided up into that so maybe a
quarter of that i wouldn't even say a
quarter no wonder they closed it down
yeah and those poor patients i mean what
did they suffer what did they go through
oh no because it's not their fault they
don't
and it might not have been the nurse's
faults either it could just be the fact
that
the state didn't have the funds to do it
right under funding and you know people
people try to do the best that they can
but sometimes it is
simply too much
so it looks like they've been bulldozing
this down so
i'm surprised any of it's still standing
to be quite honest i know so that looks
like a decent entryway
let's take a look
we're inside we're checking things out
above us
um there as you can see in the ceiling
here
there's a lot of ties that are missing
because they had electrical conduit and
whatnot
but there are quite a few holes as well
so i mean
you know we love doing this kind of
stuff but we also love to live to
explore another place yeah live to tell
the tale and i don't think we're going
to be venturing upstairs too much
because of the shape that
some of the rest of this building is in
but we're going to explore down here as
much as possible
[Music]
would have been pretty neat to have seen
this place
just after it closed down in the 90s
before it got wrecked and before yeah it
became this
unstable
i mean it's just it's really bad the
water damage all the trusses are rotting
and rusting and coming down it's uh i'm
surprised it's actually still standing
at all
which is just a shame because i mean
these places
like we say we love to explore this kind
of thing we don't get the chance very
often
but we're
when they're in this battle shape
because i mean both
entrances are blocked off from collapse
i mean this is basically all we can
really explore
there's some steps going up to the
outside
i think that's where we came in oh
that's where we came in
a bit of a blonde moment then
so that room there i
that was a fire that looks is that a
fireplace
what's that
kind of looks like oh that'd have been
because you see it's got the window for
the outside so what is that that noise
so this for like moisture they have to
leave and also access to get out so this
had like a radiator was in here you can
see the piping
it
yeah so can you imagine that
beautiful old radiator
somebody's got it
[Music]
so unfortunately this building we saw in
the distance
we've walked around the outside that is
incredibly structurally
unsound and every kind of way in is
behind this rubble pile so although it
hasn't stopped some graffiti artists
yeah they might have gotten in
beforehand but
that's going to keep us from going in
we'll walk around the outside just make
sure that there's no way in but i don't
think this one's gonna gonna work out
yeah here we are from another angle
there's there's not a way in that's safe
and we notice the road continues
just over here
and there's a rubble pile
so there might be
the remains of another building
hidden back there too
this is what remains of that other
structure
not a lot there's still a lot of
electrical piping running through
now is this part of the creme
they could be it's because they're
wondering
well the building yeah go on sorry say
it does look like back in here there was
a tunnel
that came over here well if you
pan back
the building that we can't get into
that has got
the uh chimney with a cross on it yeah
so i wonder if that was
the crematorium maybe this was the
mortuary
possible we'll have to look at see if we
can find a map of the layout
