We're going to Yakura for our favorite street snack, karaage. Located in the very touristy
area of Asakusa, this is one of our favorite karaage vendors in all of Tokyo. This is a
very budget-friendly stop, even in this neighborhood that is known for their tourist pricing. The
karaage is crispy and spicy. We opted for the extra spicy, which is the regular chicken thigh
doused in spicy sauce and sprinkled with more spice on top. The last street spicy karaage we
had was in New York City, and it's one of our favorites in the entire world. So if you haven't
seen that video, check that out. They surprisingly come closer to room temperature rather than hot,
but the crispiness is not lost and the spice is amazing. So crunchy. It's like a little meat
lollipop. The sauce is phenomenal. It's basically like that chili oil that we buy in the stores with
like just a togarashi and a sesame oil, so it's got a little smoky. The chicken is super crunchy
and juicy on the inside. It's perfect. I'm in heaven. That is the best bite. Look at your lips.
Oh my god, it's insane. A super cheap affordable street snack must eat when you're in Japan. A few
blocks away from the karaage is Naruto Taiyaki Honpo, which is the perfect spot for a quick sweet
treat. We got an ice cream sandwich and we got one of these guys, which are famous red bean filled
little fishies. The correct name for these little fishies is taiyaki, which is the stuffed fish
shaped cake and it's usually filled with like red bean, custard, or chocolate. This spot makes them
fresh every few minutes. You can definitely tell that it's a bean, but it's lightly sweet. The
outside is like waffle texture. It's warm and crispy. This is a flavor combination that you
don't really get in America, so it is definitely worth a try. They have a ton of options for ice
cream sandwiches and these are also scooped to order. We got the matcha because in Japan you get
matcha. The sandwich part was very different than what we typically get in the states. It's like a
wafer. It's not like baked or anything. The matcha flavor was perfect and the wafer was just a vessel
to hold the ice cream. Overall, a perfect sweet street food. There's a very enthusiastic strawberry
salesman who got us some very nice strawberries. It is strawberry season here in Japan and we walked
by strawberries a few days ago and they were $30. Brandon said there's no way he's paying $10
for strawberries. A few of you sent us a venmo, so we now have $20 strawberries in our hands.
I am so excited to try these. There's $10 for $20, so it's $2 a strawberry. Brandon is very upset that
we have spent this much money on strawberries, but I cannot wait to see what the difference is
between these and what we're used to in America. They are award winners. There's an award on it.
They look nice. Oh my god. These are freaking amazing. It's like strawberry cotton candy.
They're so sweet and they're so juicy. It like melts away in your mouth. I can't even describe
it. They are legit worth the money. I guess this is a sliding scale, but this is now the best
strawberry I've ever had. Tastes like they're sprinkled with sugar. It's like the sweetest thing
I've ever tasted. Looks like a filter. They look filtered or like we've bumped up the saturation
or something. Yo, so we had two lunches today. One was $11, the other one was $17. That means
this thing of strawberries was more expensive than both of those. They're fire though. Next time I'm
convincing Brandon to get the $40 strawberries. Yeah, right. We're going to Mr. Donut right now,
which is a super popular donut chain. You will find Mr. Donut everywhere in Japan. We love their
mochi donuts. The donuts are high quality, fresh, and they have a wide variety of seasonal flavors,
no matter when you visit. Most locations have a small cafe that you can sit down and relax,
or they will package up your sweets nicely to take home. There's so many to choose from. Brandon
said I'm only allowed to get two. And for our viewers from the States, you will grab your own
tray and tongs to select your own donuts. Unlike in America where most donut shops box them up for
you. It is strawberry season so there is a sparkling strawberry donut that we are definitely
going to try. And this chocolate ganache in this fancy little wrapper. The ganache is a chocolate
glaze covered in chocolate powder on top with these big chunks of decadent chocolate. Mr. Donut
has fluffy bouncy mochi and I don't think I've ever had a mochi donut this fancy. I feel like
if anything says mochi and mochi ice cream, mochi noodles, mochi donuts, you get that thing because
it's probably going to be dope. And if you've never had a mochi donut, they are typically a
little smaller than the classic donut and they always have this ball shape. They are dense and
chewy and delicious. Tastes like a donut like the flavors of donut, but the texture is like
so much better. The strawberry donut is called sparkling strawberry because of these little
chunks of sparkles on top. This is I cannot tell you how good this smells. It smells like that.
Do you remember that Nesquik strawberry powder? Like I think it's like chunks of strawberry
deliciousness on top there. I feel like anything that says strawberry on it is a strong buy in
Japan. We walked by this place earlier and it smells so good so we had to go inside. The place
is called Ringo and they have this amazing pastry and it looks glazed over and it says it is stuffed
with custard and it smells so good walking by. So I sent Brandon in to get one and when he went
inside he read the sign and it says that it's apple pie stuffed custard and it looks delicious
and it smells even better. I cannot wait to see what is inside this little bag. It's kind of big
like they're pretty huge and the lighting they have in there really makes it shimmer. It's
not as shimmery out here because it's like a overcast day but it's beautiful and look how
flaky it looks. Bro this is like the prettiest thing ever. I'm so scared I'm gonna drop it.
We're like in the middle of this busy intersection. All right I'm gonna sit down to eat it. Is that
good? Yeah. Oh my god it's so flaky. It's the flakiest thing I've ever had in my life.
Oh it's delicious. It's apple pie custard. This side is custard and this side is apple pie and
it's freaking delicious. Whoa that is so so good. The custard and the caramel apple go so good
together. Dude there's like huge chunks of real apple and that custard is so high quality and
fatty. It coats your mouth. I love the glaze on there. You can totally taste it.
The crust is the flakiest thing maybe I've ever had in my entire life. Ringo five stars. So we've
walked by this place a couple of times while we're passing on the JR line but we're stopping
at a cheese tart place. It's called Hazelnuts Chocolate Caramel something like that and it
just says cheese tarts and there's these beautiful tarts in the window. So let's go check it out.
So it turns out the name of this place is called Bake actually. It was finally on the guy's t-shirt
but we are in the Ikebukuro station and look at this cute little box they gave me and there's like
this nice little egg tart nestled inside. So they had multiple flavors. They had a matcha one, a
pistachio one, a strawberry one but this is what we decided to go with was the yuzu variety. It has
crystallized yuzu which is a Japanese style lemon. It's like creme brulee on top with a nice crispy
crust. Wow it's so good. It's like a lemon meringue. The crust is almost like a granola bar flavor.
It's so good. It's insanely creamy. Man I cannot believe this is so great. You can't do street food
in Tokyo without going to Tsukiji market so that's where we're headed next. So it's raining and snowy
and it's still crazy busy at Tsukiji market. We're at the outer market. Obviously the main fish market
has moved but a lot of the sushi vendors and the seafood vendors that were inside are now out here
and you can still get that awesome experience and some amazing seafood. There's a bunch of people
crowded around this strawberry mochi stand so we're gonna grab one. It's only 350 yen and it's
like a mochi with strawberry in it. This is mochi, matcha mochi with a pristine strawberry put on top.
350 yen. The actual name of these is daifuku and they are thought to bring luck and good fortune
to those who eat them. Oh it is heavy. Oh there's definitely something inside. I'm going for it.
It's like a matcha bean paste. So there's like the jello-y mochi on the outside and then a thicker
paste on the inside. Very matcha flavor. Light. Good. I think I'm just gonna bite the tip of the
strawberry. Is that weird? No. Oh my gosh the strawberry is so good. I like this better than
the other mochi we've had. The matcha flavor is very faint but the mochi is really high quality.
Chewy, elastic. Going in for the berry. It's good right? It's like a freaking gusher. Look how juicy it is.
Just oozing gushing juice. This is just like a random spot and I know that there's probably
better strawberries than this but honestly this is like a top five strawberry I've ever had in my
entire life. And it's a bonus that it's covered with matcha mochi. We've had quite a bit of
sweets in this video so now it's time for some savory food. We were just wandering by and we
smelled this amazing odagi grilling on the grill and it looks absolutely fantastic.
Smoky. There's like skin on there. Whoa. The skin on there's very crispy. It's not a very
sweet sauce. Bomb. I like that they warm it for you and crisp it up a little bit more.
300 yen. That is a good walking snack. And not walking. Standing snack. I can't believe how busy it is
for it being raining. Also it was much better when it was snowing. It was way easier to walk around
in the rain. The rain is like miserable. The snow's like magical. Alyssa has found the perfect
spot to enjoy her crab stick. It's a mustard mayo crab flavored fish cake.
Fluffier than I expected. It's just imitation crab mayo and like a soft tempura batter. I want to try
some. Take two bites because you get the seaweed flavor. No that one's not for me.
Oh I'm out on that one. Here you go. I like it. So we just found the most amazing place to watch
the sunset in Tokyo. We'll leave a google link in the description for you guys so that you can
see where this is. But we would totally recommend taking this walk across this bridge. You can see
the rainbow bridge, the Tokyo tower, all of Tokyo, the amazing like canals. The planes coming in.
Yeah it's just a beautiful sight. Break free sunset. Yeah for sure. We were just checking out
the Tokyo tower right up here and we saw a sweet potato cart dude. So we're gonna try and grab a
sweet potato from him. It says 150 yen and it smells amazing. They use like real mesquite wood.
The yams are supposed to be really high quality. I've never bought a street yam before so this
will be a first for sure. We did it. We got it. He didn't think we were freaks at all. That was
fun. That was cute. 400 yen. It's a little more than we thought but uh it was by gram and we got
a small one. It smells so good. Incredible. This might be one of the most like bizarre or random
foods that I've ever purchased from a cart on the side of the road and I've purchased a lot of
strange things on the side of the road. That is a hot potato. I can't believe that they're rolling
around in these like old school trucks and they have their wood fire burning coals just to keep
these things warm and cooked and everything. Do I eat it like that? Yeah like a banana bro. Just take a
bite? I think so. Oh that's bomb. It's like so soft. I don't think it's seasoned with anything at all.
I don't think it's seasoned. It's just one hot really high quality sweet potato. Yeah it smells
amazing. The sweet potatoes here are on like a whole another level than we're used to at home.
Way interesting. We got a cool view of the Tokyo Tower. We're on the side of the street like this
day can't get much better than this. This is for sure a must try snack in Tokyo. It will seem weird
because he doesn't speak any English and you don't know any Japanese. Don't miss out on this because
you're scared. What a dope dude. We know we didn't hit all the street food Tokyo has to offer
so leave a comment below and let us know what your favorite street snack is and check out our
other Japan videos to see if maybe we tried it somewhere else. Don't forget to subscribe.
We're headed to Fukuoka next.
