Join The 2024 In-Person Workshop!

hey there everybody Joe here thanks for watching I want to invite you to my 2024 Workshop that will be in person right here at my studio in Flagstaff Arizona in just about a month here on the 30th of September through October 4th my workshops are so much about going out in nature studying practicing learning hanging out having a good time observing bringing our observations back to the studio and analyzing the patterns that we can use in our own work I want to talk to you a lot about gradients and edges something that has really uh stood out to me in my recent research it's it's a something I'm very excited about because I've been using it very consciously uh recently especially in this piece I behind me you know realism is so much about understanding the edges and the gradients attached to those edges that recreate the criteria that we expect in order to perceive the three-dimensional world on a 2d canvas so the patterns I think are extremely helpful to understand and they're not super mysterious you know it can just really pay off to take time to identify and practice those things specifically I think it's just fascinating that a whole picture regardless of how uh hyper realistic or photographic it looks or how impressionistic it may look whatever we think we're seeing there can be brought down to the basic units of a gradient and Edge that it's next to an edge and a gradient an edge and a gradient it tells so much and so we'll really focus on that with an intent to understand realism and how it really is in all kinds of art just to some degree I would love to have you come join uh and hang out have a lot of fun with us it's been great in the years past and uh so I hope to see you here at this one
