(Premier League 2024/2025): Highlights Aston Villa - Arsenal

Martinelli back to Timber, given away, or is it no? Not given away and Arsenal can break now. Martinelli, he's got options forward here. The outside of the foot's gone behind Bukayo Saka. Saka, plays one in. Martinez can't get hold of it. Rice didn't get hold of the shot and it's a comfortable save at the end. Yeah, that was a difficult one for Declan Rice on his left foot. Ball was bouncing, hard to get a good connection to it. By the beginning of the action, I really loved the little flick from Havertz. It'll be cleared away by Villa. Paratorez, but then Arsenal get it back with Thomas Partey. Havertz feet it out wide to Saka. Udegaard. Back to Saka, he's opening up for him, Saka shoots! So close, what a save by Martinez. Incredible save, but I'm sure he's done his homework. Martinez, he knows when Saka come in on his left foot, most of the time, try to find that bottom corner on the outside. Oh, what a save, what a hands. This time Villa putting Arsenal under pressure. Play continues here, great opportunity, squandered by Watkins. He's put it wide, he had all the time in the world. What a let off. Oh my God, he's going to be absolutely destroyed with this miss. Watkins, he's on his own, around the penalty spot. Not sure that was not a foul, but Rodgers done brilliant to feed Watkins straight on. He's even closer than I thought he was. Infield to Declan Rice. Saka. Partey. Rice getting further forward. Did well, Martinelli. Options in the middle. Havertz though, it was a difficult ball. Couldn't really get any control on the shot. Yeah, it was too early. Havertz just made his run too early, so he was waiting for the ball. You can see there on the replay, great little ball from Declan Rice between two players, and Havertz is already there. Did well, Rodgers. Good feet. Still going Rodgers, it's good play. And he's still going. Pulls it across. Going to get the second attempt was David Ryer. Excellent run from Rodgers. Yeah, excellent run from Rodgers, but great save from Ryer. Great anticipation. His hand grabbing the shirt. Saliba gets there, but McKinnon's going to pick up the loose ball. Dean giving him an overlap. Rodgers. Good ball in. Opportunity shot takes a deflection. It's one a save by Ryer. What a reaction, Ryer. Oh, my God. And Watkins again, that's another open goal. That's the second big chance he's missing. I don't think Rodgers wants to give it to Onana there, by the way. I think he's looking for Watkins. How did he miss that? The goal is completely open there. Saka again. This is better. Challenge comes in from Luka Dean. But Arsenal still have it. Udagard again. Looking for Saka. He should keep the sanction. He has. Pulls it back well there. He might drop. And it's a good... What a start for Leandro Trosson. His first touch and the Gunners have taken the lead. Incredible. Absolutely incredible. He's just... Every time he comes on, he delivers. First touch. Kept his score. Bottom corner. How many times we've seen him scoring that goal, by the way. Quite incredible. Arsenal have been under the cosh. Credit to Saka for keeping the ball in. But Trosson... He's done it so many times in the last year. What a contribution. Instant contribution. He's just been on a couple of minutes. Saka who kept the ball in. How quick his brain got to work there. Because... The ball just comes. And he's there. He senses. He can smell the ball's just going to end up coming back to him. He makes a run. White. Saka. It's been a rather rainy day. The sun's been out here at Villa Park. Good ball. Arsenal with Tross. A great first touch right across is Saka. Arsenal looking for a second goal. Saka trying to make some space. Shot comes in. It's in! And Thomas Pate has made it 2-0. Yeah. Great finish. Martinez can only touch the ball. They all started with that little run against from Trossard. On the left-hand side. Thomas Pate with the goal. It's been a long time coming for him. It's that little ball then. That little ball from Gabriel just over the top. Martinez couldn't keep it out. Got a hand to it. Thomas Pate's first goal for Arsenal since March 2023. I think Martinez can do better on that. But... Pate just... kept it low. Just curved it. Didn't need to just go with the laces and put too much power. Now Villa's turn. Ramsey's away here. Saliba tries to get back. No wonder he celebrates. He had to make that. Ramsey was in. What a tackle from Saliba. Because he's taking risks. Getting Dan in the box. But what a perfect tackle with his left foot. Look at the reaction of Benoit and Gabriel. This game nearly over. Arsenal have won the game. And there is the final whistle. Big, big three points. David Reuers celebrates. He played his part. Leandro Trossard off the bench. First touch. Instinctive finish. It was a huge goal. As Aston Villa were piling on the pressure just before that goal. And then Thomas Pate's first goal in a long, long time. Arsenal's 100th against Aston Villa in the Premier League. Sealed the points. It's finished here at Villa Park. A big win for Arsenal. Aston Villa nil. Arsenal two.
