People deluded, I'm back again. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and in some
cases good night. Hope you're all doing well and safe. Hope you're blessed. Now the deadline
day madness is done. Furthermore, the transfer window is over. As you know, we've got what
we've got. Let me know your thoughts on Arsenal's transfer dealings. We welcome Raheem Sterling,
which is obviously the topic of this video. Sterling, California, Mikel, Mourinho, and
David Rye have all joined the football club. Of course, big up young Tommy Setford, who
joined from Ajax. Now, I don't know how you lot feel. Do you feel we have stronger squad
depth? Do you feel our team is stronger and more equipped to obviously fight City for
the league? Now, in my opinion, you could argue Raheem Sterling boosts us. He does.
Obviously, whatever we say, it might not have been the signing we wanted. It might not have
been what Edu and Mikel Arteta had planned, but that's neither here nor there. And they're
going to have to hold the praise or the criticism, however the season pans out.
Now, let's start with the negatives for Raheem Sterling, in my opinion. Of course, many people,
I don't agree with just looking at someone and assuming they're 29 years of age and they're
finished and all of these kinds of things. I know it's very different, but I wonder what
Mikel Arteta sees in himself almost. Because I remember when Mikel Arteta signed for Arsenal,
of course, he was a good player for Everton. In hindsight, obviously it worked out for Arsenal,
but many people were saying he was on a downward slope. Forgive me if I'm wrong,
he might have been a bit older, but he was in and around the age Raheem Sterling is.
Now, you look at Sterling, the first thing I would say, if Mikel Arteta can get a tune out of him in
the same vein he did with Granit Xhaka, with Kai Havertz, with Aaron Ramsdale and Benjamin White,
all different. Martin Odegaard, even when he signed in January initially, all very different
kind of scenarios, but people weren't necessarily convinced on them at the point of entry to this
football club. And a lot of people sit there and go, you know what, if Arteta can get hands on
Rashford, Mutric, now Sterling, Jadon Sancho, any player that needs a bit of love or
it's not really working out, their current employers reckon he can get a tune out of him.
And, you know, working with him, you know, at Manchester City, he did get that.
But many people would say, you know, Sterling wasn't our first choice. It screams panic, which
again, it is panic, but at the same time, we're damned if we do, damned if we don't, because
I'm not saying we should overly praise the club for Raheem Sterling's acquisition,
but it would look a lot more dark if we didn't sign anyone. I think everyone would agree with that.
Now, essentially, like I said, it weren't first choice. Many people would say, do you know what,
worst case scenario, if Mikel Arteta gets a tune out of Raheem Sterling and he gets back up to his
best, you know, are we essentially developing a player that is going to be sold on from Chelsea
because a lot of other people would be interested if Sterling gets back up to his best? Or will,
assuming their current manager, if he's still there, will he say, you know what, I made a mistake.
Next season, you're backing Sterling. Or if we want to keep Sterling with no obligation to buy
or no buy option, we're in issues. Now, that would be the negatives really and truly. For me,
whatever you say, we want to be a Premier League winning side. You can never have too many winners.
You look at Raheem Sterling, he joins the, whatever you have to say, the Zinchenkos,
the Declan Rices, the Kai Havertz, the Jorginhos, you know, Mikel Moreno's won a few trophies.
A couple of players have won trophies at other clubs really, so it whets the appetite collectively.
Sterling, whatever you have to say, he's been in the Premier League from 16-17 and he's still here
at 29. You know, whatever you have to say about Chelsea, he's at Chelsea Football Club. He's still
here. So if him being finished is on a 300-bags-a-week contract, being at Chelsea, then boy,
I don't know what you'd have to say. For me, he's also worked with Mikel Arteta before.
Obviously, he can play on the left, play up front, play in the tent, play on the right.
I'm here for that. Again, I don't feel we necessarily have enough collective squad depth,
barring what we got defensively, because there's a reality where if we go all the way,
there's 70-odd games. As you know, at some point in the Premier League and in all competitions,
we're going to go from one game a week to two games a week to three games every 10 days.
So again, I don't know. Let me know your thoughts on the transfer business. So I'm here for this.
And also, you know, I mean, it's been a mixed bag for Edu. I think in some ways,
in terms of incomings and outgoings, he's done well. Generally, when you look at the Raheem
Sterling deal, while there's no buy option or obligation to buy, I'm sure Chelsea and Arsenal
being able to negotiate if things happen, you know, to be paying significantly, you know,
we're paying half of his wages. I don't think there's a loan fee. Again, we'll truly never know.
But that's my thoughts. And, you know, again, I don't know. Let me know your thoughts as well
on the front three, because now we've got some good options. You know, if Gabriel Jesus is fit
and he can do his thing, I'll also throw Gabriel Jesus into what I said about winning players that
have won stuff. But, you know, a fit Gabriel Jesus in full Martinelli, Trossart doing his thing,
Saka doing his thing, Kai Havertz doing his thing, Sterling getting back up to his best.
There's competition for places. Only three players can start kind of thing.
Let me know your thoughts on what you would assume would be our strongest
midfield. Apologies. It's early in the morning. Striking trio, because on one hand, I think
Trossart is very unlucky not to get more starts than ahead of Brighton. I hope he actually starts,
even though I backed Martinelli all the way. In Arteta's mind, it's probably Martinelli,
Saka, and at the moment Kai Havertz. But I must admit, people, I am thinking Raheem Sterling on
the left, Bakaio Saka on the right, Kai Havertz up front. And of course, there's a wealth of options,
but there's a lot of things we could do in that regard. So, yeah, let me know your thoughts.
Again, we've gone over Raheem Sterling at depth. I'm sure that you've been part of my other videos
and big up to yourselves, but it's officially been confirmed. And I must admit, if you lot
have watched the Sterling video, like his welcome video at Arsenal, I think that's better, you know,
considering that had to have been turned around in a couple of hours. We're a weird club because
that video is better than what we did for California or Mikel Merino, in my opinion.
For what it's worth, Sterling has joined us on a season-long loan from Chelsea. I mean,
how many players have we signed from Chelsea off the top of my head? Sterling on loan,
Jorginho, Kai Havertz. Can you count Willian if you want? You know, Lasana Diarra comes to mind.
Many people say we need to stop, you know, bargain hunting in Chelsea. It's been really
and truly. But for what it's worth, the 29-year-old winger arrives at the club having won
every domestic honour, including four Premier League titles and five Football League Cups.
He has made 379 appearances in the top flight, scoring 123 goals and assisting 63 times.
We all know he started his career at QPR, went to Liverpool, played for City and obviously ended up
at Chelsea, where there's that. He's obviously been nominated slash won a lot of individual awards
and he's got 80-odd caps for obviously England at the highest level. Mikel Arteta's sporting
director, Edu, has been speaking on the summer business people. He said it's the last day,
the last minute. So it's been a long day, a long transfer window. But in the end,
I think we as a club have to be proud once again. Could be a lot better, could be a lot worse. As I
said, I praise some of the outgoings. I don't agree with making less on Aaron Ramsdale. I think
we did well Freddie and Ketya. Obviously, we cleared a lot of young players off the wage
bill as well. Got a good fee for Emil Smithbro. Failed to really get our first choice goalkeeping
targets. Dare I say failed to get our first choice wide or attacking option targets. But we
made something happen, people. So it could be better, it could be worse. I don't know about
pride. But yeah, I think we're in a very good situation. It says when see all the lone players
in the right clubs, fair enough. You see the signings we have like Ricardo and Mourinho.
So the players that we plan to sign, our targets, they're here. Also, the players that we decided
to sell, I think we sold them for the right price to the right clubs in the right way also,
which is important, fair enough, if that's what you believe. I think the vast majority,
fair play. Ramsdale, I don't agree because yes, his stock has fallen and taken a hit. But
is Ramsdale a better goalkeeper than when he was at Sheffield United to him leaving Arsenal? Is he
held in higher regards regardless of the David Rye stuff and all the things we know? Yeah,
because Sheffield United probably have a sell-on clause. So we've made 18 million. Don't know how
much they're due. 19 if Southampton stay up. But I personally think that was a gentleman's
kind of thing with Ramsdale still. So yeah, so today to be here on the last day of the transfer
window to get someone like Sterling, who I believe will be someone very important for the squad,
who is going to give a lot to the team. So it's a pleasure. And in the end, everybody,
not only me, because there are a lot of people working here as well, but it's a pleasure. We
are finishing the transfer window. And as much as I would have loved someone earlier,
somebody to be a bit younger that ties in long term, you could argue, you know,
the Sterlings, they're all 28, 29 in their 30s. They're here for now. They're ready to win now
kind of thing. And, you know, Sterling is a Premier League proven individual. And again,
you do have to discount Sterling a bit because everybody at Chelsea stunk up the place really.
So there we have it. I do think this is quite telling from Mikel Arteta, sorry,
Edu Gaspar. To be fair, we never really planned to sign him when we started the transfer window.
And that's interesting because had we assigned Sterling very early, I still think a lot of the
talking points would have remained. But I think there would have been a lot more optimism there,
people. But as Edu has said, to be very transparent, we all know he wasn't there.
So that's telling us he wasn't the first choice. We found ourselves having to do something.
Something is better than nothing. And he's not the worst of players for different reasons.
But we always say to everyone that you have to be prepared for every single scenario.
So when that opportunity came and I checked the squad, I checked how he plays and spoke to Mikel,
I spoke to Tim Lewis, our vice-chairman, to check if everyone is comfortable for the step we're
going to take. And it makes a lot of sense. It makes a lot of sense to have someone like him
because I'm pretty sure he's going to add a lot to the squad. He has experience. He understands
more than anyone in the league. He's played in the Champions League many times. He's won the
Premier League a few times as well. So I think he can add a lot to our squad and I feel really
happy to see someone like him in our squad. And from a personal point for Sterling, you got what
you wanted is staying in London. Realistically, you're playing with someone you know like Mikel
that knows you and trusts you, which the current Chelsea manager doesn't. You've got a bit of that
bit between your teeth because if you're Raheem Sterling, yes, football is a funny old game of
opinions. And ultimately, if the manager don't want you, the manager don't want you. But if
Chelsea are doing this rebuild and yeah, they've got Sancho, Pedro Neto, Woodrick, all of these
guys, some of the players that they're persisting with. If I'm Sterling, I'm sitting there saying,
listen, I've won the Premier League. I've been here and done stuff. How dare you do that to me?
So there's a bit of fire in his belly. He's obviously kind of fell upwards because we're
ahead of Chelsea at this moment in time. And obviously he wants to put himself back in the
shop window and show everyone that he's not damaged goods. I'm sure he wants to get back
into England contention. So there's a lot of personal reasons for him to want to do this thing.
And it's not plain sailing. I personally think Sterling starts for Arsenal, but I don't think
it's a foregone conclusion. You can't say Martinelli or Tross are in trouble now because
of Sterling necessarily. So go and make sure you play because you could very well sit on the bench.
Obviously, we've brought in Neto as well, people. We've brought in Neto as well. Obviously,
Tommy Setford is going to be our third choice goalkeeper. I don't think that was necessarily
planned. We all know players had to leave. So that's where we're at with that. Of course,
we know Sterling at this point has signed for Arsenal on loan. He's completed all the
medicals and whatnot, and he's taking a wage cut, really. I know when people look at Sterling and
say, oh, ironically, his last name is Sterling, people talk about money. I'm happy to have a
man at the club as well, if I'm honest with you. And with all the Jamaican-inspired apparel that
Arsenal come out with, it'd be silly not to get some out and get Sterling modelling it.
Sterling took a wage cut to join Arsenal on loan. Arsenal pay less than 50% of the agreed wages
upon him in terms of his loan deal. So that's good for us. And maybe if he signed on a permanent
basis, he would do that as well. And some of you would have seen the images of him as well.
I think it's quite telling that, you know, obviously Sterling's a mature individual, but
he did come out and said he's not, you know, he's not our first choice.
Raheem Sterling to Arsenal is said to be a season-long loan with the Gunners having no
obligation to buy. Sterling is understood to be willing to accept a 50% cut in wages from
£300k a week at Chelsea to around £150k a week at Arsenal should the deal go through.
So that could be that. And what do you lot make of our transfer dealings? Because, you know,
David Rye, we can count him, but not count him. He's been here before,
but technically was made permanent. We've signed David Rye, Ricardo Californi, Mikel Moreno,
second choice now in Neto, the 35-year-old goalkeeper on a loan from Bournemouth,
and we've brought in Sterling on loan as well. So two loans, a long-term acquisition in California.
You could extend that to the 28-year-old David Rye. I mean, 28 as a goalkeeper, you're a baby,
really. Mikel Moreno's still got years in the tank, really, and Sterling's going to help us
for at least a year. I'm getting tongue-tied here. Sterling's going to help us for a year,
at least. Now, I guess I asked for a central midfielder. We got that, especially a left-sided
one. We knew he was going to sign a left-back. I'm happy with California, whether it's centre-half,
left-back, strong options, carrying on what we're doing. That's cool. David Rye,
we knew that was going to be made permanent last summer, but that's cool. Neto, you weren't our
first choice goalkeeper, but you are experienced and, you know, it'd be very dark if we never had
another goalie. Now, Sterling and Neto Fortisworth can't be involved against Brighton because the
deals didn't go through in time. I asked for a versatile attacker. I've got one, really,
and that's Sterling, who can play as a false nine up front, on the left, in the 10, which indirectly
could cover for Odegaard. So, yeah, man, let's just hope it works out. But what would you lot
rate the win, though? For me, I'd give it a six. I'd give it a six. I think we've got some quality
additions. I think we've technically addressed every area. I don't think we've really moved
the needle. I think we've done well in terms of outgoings, but that's even mixed. I think
Eddie and Ketya's deal's good. I think, all right, you've got a decent fee for Ramsdale,
cleared some of the young players off the way structure. Nelson only left on loan. Fair play,
you know, it didn't happen for him in that regard. I think our best outgoings undoubtedly
have to be Emil Smith-Rowe for the money we got, and Eddie and Ketya for the money we got.
So, yeah, man, it's a mixed bag, but ultimately, this is what we've got,
and we're going to have to make it work, really and truly, in our pursuit of Premier League glory.
So, you lot, let me know your thoughts. Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe. At the
