still to come on Friday. Elsewhere, Josh Kerr says he is ready to go as he resumes his rivalry
with in-form Jakob Ingebrigtsen and seeks revenge over Olympic 1,500-metre gold medallist
Cole Hawker in this evening's Diamond League in Switzerland. You can watch the meet live
on BBC Two now. And in tennis, British number one Jack Draper says he's so proud to have
reached his first Grand Slam semi-final. The 22-year-old beat Alex de Menor at the US Open
to set up a last-four match against the world's number one Yannick Sinner tomorrow night.
Well, that is the latest sport. Now, time for the weather.
And tonight, western areas will have lengthy clear spells. Plenty of blue
cloud affecting eastern areas as well. Perhaps a mid-summer broken
and temperatures of 11 to 14 Celsius. That's BBC Radio Scotland News.
Scotland in the UEFA Nations League. This is Sports Sound from BBC Radio Scotland.
Welcome back to Sports Sound with me, Kenny McIntyre. We are live from the National Stadium.
Upcoming 7.45 kick-off, Scotland against Poland in the top tier of the Nations League. Alongside
me here this evening, Leanne Creighton, Willie Miller, Stephen Thompson and Tom Inglis. We'll
get the thoughts of some Scotland fans shortly. We will also have a wee debate on a subject we've
touched on a few times on Sports Sound in recent weeks and Steve Clarke mentioned it last week
and that's the SFA report that basically found that we are failing our youngsters. Not enough
youngsters getting game time, not enough youngsters breaking through. So we'll get the guys' thoughts
on that. So plenty to come between now and 7.45 here at Hampden Park. The Scotland players
are out on the park down below doing their warm-up. No sign yet of the Poland players.
It's filling up nicely here at the National Stadium. The Polish supporters down to our
left-hand side. They're here in good numbers. Let's get back to our match commentator this
evening, Liam McLeod. Liam, you can recap the team news for us. Yeah, Scotland start with Angus
Gunn in goal. Three alterations in the outfield. Players from the last team which was of course
against Hungary in Stuttgart in June. So there is of course no Jack Henry in the squad. Callum
McGregor's retired from international football and she, Adams, dropped out of the squad. Angus
Gunn in goal as I say. Ralston, Hanley McKenna, Robertson who goes level with Craig Gordon in the
Cap Hall of Fame. He is now one behind Paul McStay. The middle two there. Gilmore now of Napoli
alongside McLean. McGinn, McTominay also of Napoli nowadays and Christie behind Lyndon Dykes. For the
Poles, some familiar names there. If you're into your football, if you watched at the Euros, Poland
had as disappointing a campaign as Scotland did really. Just one point as well for them though
they were in a pretty brutal group. Lost to the Netherlands, lost to Austria who were one of the
much fancied dark horses of the tournament. That knocked them out before Scotland went out
actually. They did manage a draw against the French in their final group match. It wasn't
enough. They went home round about the same time as the Scots did. So Martine Bulka of Nice is in
goal. The back three there. Jan Bednarek of Southampton alongside Pavel Dovidovich of Verona
with Jakub Kiviar of Arsenal on the other side. Joined Arsenal last year. He played regularly
though he hasn't managed any game time yet this season for his club. Tzemyslaw Frankowski of
Lens in France is the right wing back. Over on the other side Nikola Zalewski of Roma, born in Italy.
Came through the Roma academy. He's got Polish parents. He is earning his 22nd cap. The middle
three supporting the strikers then. Sebastian Zimanski of Fenerbahce. Piotr Zielinski of Inter.
Played a couple of times against Rangers in the Champions League during his eight years at Napoli
a couple of seasons ago with Kacper Urbanski of Bologna. 19 year old over on the other side from
debut against Ukraine in a pre-tournament friendly in June and then went on to play all three
Euro 2024 matches in the first month of his international career.
On the front two are full of goals. Shistav Piontek of Istanbul, Basakşehir in Turkey. He's
already scored eight goals in nine appearances for his club this season and ominously for Scotland.
He scored a hat-trick at the weekend there against Antalya Sport just on Sunday and he scored
here as well. Late penalty in the 1-1 draw in the friendly two and a half years ago and he's partnered
by the man who needs no introduction when it comes to Polish football Robert Lewandowski
who scored 344 goals in 375 appearances for Bayern Munich, 103 in 187 for Dortmund
and his Barcelona record he's currently at Barca is similar 63 in 99. Four of them
have already come this season. Lewandowski is I think the only man in Polish football history or
certainly since Zbigniew Boniak played. He's the only one who can rival him.
