In today's video we're going to talk about how to start conversations with other people
And I'm going to give you 25 phrases you can use at any time
As you can see I'm trying to use more Spanish in my videos so you can learn faster
Because if I speak truly as I speak you won't be able to understand me
First when I say something in Spanish I immediately translate it into English
In that way you can learn the translations quickly
Then if there's anything you don't understand you can ask for clarification
Listen to me say it in Spanish and then I'll translate it back into English
You can do it You can literally claim this video and see what I said in the introduction after I translate it
You can see how I said it in Spanish
But yes without further ado I'm going to share my screen with you
We are going to switch screens I will show you my screen
Are you ready Let's go start
Okay first we have this sentence that everyone knows
What is your name
Now keep in mind that you can add the topic here
Or if you're in countries like the Caribbean we'll add the "tú" before "eres "
Then where are you from
People respond by saying I am
from And then they will establish it where they are
Then we have sentence number 3
This really translates to what you do but this is how you can say it
You can also say
Then there are many ways you can say this but this is a great way to ask someone
Hey what are you doing
If you call someone you can say
Hey what are you
doing On the phone Okay
Next sentence
Simple If you are looking for
someone or are on the phone with someone
You can easily ask "Where are you "
And they will tell you where they are
What do you like to do
Then this is a great
conversation starter Especially if you don't know what to say
And they will tell you what they like to do
Probably in his free time
Oh I like to play
basketball I like to go to the movies I like to
read Whatever the case may be
This is a great question to spark conversations
What is your favorite food
We all love food
We all love eating
I love talking about food
Then ask someone "What is your favorite food "
"What is your favorite food "
It's a great way to start a conversation about food
Well
What other languages do you speak
What other languages do you speak
I only speak Spanish
I speak Spanish and English
Now I am learning Italian
This is a good question to ask
If you feel the person knows more than one language
Because I think it's really cool
And when you start going to Europe Spain etc
You'll see that there are many people in Europe who speak different languages
That is a good question
Where do you live
Depending on whether you mean the V or the B
Either way it's correct
Do what you feel comfortable with
Where do you live
What do you do for a living
What do you do
What is your job
This directly translates to
What do you do work
But this is like
What is your job What
do you do for work
Next sentence
What did you do this weekend
This is a great question to ask
In a weekend
You come
Let's say you arrive to work
You meet someone to
start the week And you ask them What did you
do over the
weekend What's the weather like That'
s the next sentence
This is What is
the weather This can be confusing
for people Because
they see the weather
And they think
about the weather But when we say
What does time do
What is it
It's not what time does It's
what the weather is So time
is the weather
And it is time
But when it is what does the time do
Do you have siblings
How old are you
How old are you This
is how most people ask
How old are
you At least
in Italian and Spanish
But when it comes to English we
say "How old
are you " and we don' t say "How old are you "
But in Spanish you say "How old are you "
How old are you
What is your morning routine
Then this is What is your morning routine
Then they can
say: "I get
up " "I wake
up at five
" "And I brush my teeth " "I
get up at five " Or
I get up and I go
to sleep Then this is a good
Conversation starter
Especially when you want to start talking about something
Another one that
How is your
day Then
This is a good one to add to your list
What kind of movies do you like
The word movies is a
very difficult word
for English speakers
because of where the i
comes in a lot of them
want to say if they
don't understand how
to properly say the word
They want to say "
películas" and they want to
put that emphasis on
the "u" so they want to
say "películas" instead of "películas" "películas
" as you can see the accent is over that "i"
That's where you should focus your attention
movies not movies
What kind of movies do you like
and the next one
What are
your hobbies
This hobby is the
same in English but
we just obviously
in Spanish you don't
say the h and we say
it with the Spanish
accent so it's not
hobby it's hobby
So what are your hobbies
What did you eat for dinner
what did you eat for dinner
also an easy way you can say this
is What did you have for dinner
what did you have for
dinner what did you eat for dinner
so you can say
What did you have
for dinner
last night
What time do you go to bed
At what time are you going to bed
so this literally translates to
at what time are you going to lay down
but this is how you would say
what time do you go to sleep
What time do you go to bed
Do you have
pets So "mascota"
means pet So if
you want to ask
someone dog cat You know you could say "Do
you have dogs "
Do you have cats
but do you have pets
and that will cover all the pets
Do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend
Do you have a boyfriend or a girlfriend
s is an easy one
everyone knows this
do you have a boyfriend or do you
have a girlfriend
girlfriend boyfriend
what is your cell phone number
What is your cell phone number
so you could ask this
you know if you're
either talking to somebody
and they say
Yes call me
call me and you say
What is your
phone number
or cell number so that's
the easy way you could
also say what
is your number
If you have your
phone in your hand and
you show them "What'
s your number " then that's
an easy way too "Can I call you "
Can I call you
simple or you could say
Can I call you
maybe I'll do a video about
having the te before the puedo
or after the llamar
it's the same thing
but whatever you
feel comfortable
so Can I call you or Can I
call you What do
you want to eat
what do you want
to eat simple
Again like I mentioned
earlier we all love food we
all love talking about
food so anytime a conversation
is not going too well you can always just bring up food and I'm pretty sure people will be excited
o talk about it
at least I know
I will what do
you want to drink
you can also
say what do you
want to drink
they're the same
so to take to drink
at least in terms of to drink
they're the same
What time do you want to go
At what time do you want to go
you can also say
at what time do you want to leave you can use this to say that
but a lot of
times this is just to say like
ok I'm going to the store
and you say
ok What time do you want to
go at what time do you want to go to the store
so those are the 25 phrases
