Dos Hermanos is one of the go-to Mexican restaurants here in Central Ohio, and NBC4's Ciara Johnson tells us how this staple restaurant got going.
From vibrant salsas to meats cooked to perfection, for some, Dos Hermanos represents the gold standard in authentic Mexican cuisine. For others, it represents the array of entrepreneurial opportunities here in Central Ohio.
So we got the food truck May of 2012, so about 12 years ago now, and literally just started on the side of the road, Morse Road here in Columbus, and started selling tacos at $1.50 a taco.
For Lisa Gutierrez, CEO and co-founder of Dos Hermanos Taco Truck, the food industry has always been a part of her life.
She says after spending a few years at the Easton Cheesecake Factory location, she wanted something different, and it didn't take long for word to spread about this mom-and-pop truck on the city's north side selling delicious, authentic bites.
So I feel like we just organically grew. Yes, we had the one truck, and then we had an opportunity to get a small taco cart.
Becoming part of Central Ohio traditions while sharing their family traditions with thousands through trucking, sporting events, and then with stalls at North Market and North Market Bridge Park.
Much like the growth over a decade, the next step, while major, also happened organically. Really a full-circle moment for this foodie.
This place has just been amazing for us because it's a place that we can help the community gather for different events.
Very successful events like Dia de los Muertos we had last year, being Hispanic Heritage Month.
What I think sets our food apart, there are many restaurants, amazing, that are serving Mexican food here, but these recipes are really made with love.
Those recipes, the brainchild of the company's namesake, her husband and his brother, two brothers, Dos Hermanos.
We should be very proud of how the Columbus community embraces new ideas, and they have embraced not only me as a black woman running a Mexican concept, right,
but has embraced my husband and my brother-in-law's vision for bringing really good, authentic food to the streets of Columbus.
I do love their string tacos. To see all of our Hispanic Heritage Month stories, head on over to NBC4i.com.
