Hello everyone! Sawasdee krap from Chiang Mai, Thailand. In this episode I will talk about
the basic tools I use. If you ask like 100,000 leather crafters, they say different. Yeah but
it can be guideline for you. If you can find in your area have some shop, the design may different
but the purpose of it to use is the same. The very first pencil can be used for drawing on the
patterns on the leather and so many things. And the tools as user right along with it is the
ruler. For me I use metric system. For you guys if you use in the state, you might use an inch,
something like that. And the L shape one. This is very important for me. I use in every project to
draw the patterns. So it gives you the exact L perpendicular to the straight line. It helps
your patterns to be straight unless you use computer. Depends. And next one is the divider,
the wing divider. It will give the lines that the edge of the leather, the edge that have to be
stitch the seams of it. But then if I show you here, I'm not sure you can see the tips of it or
not. I mod it. I make it more sharper. The glue for me I use right now is water-based glue. Also
you can use the rubber glue, the adhesive one. Yes. And the glue applicator to apply glue to flatten
the surface of the glue. Knife I use is just simply simple cutter one but it is 30 degree.
It's sharp and it can tap the blade off for the new one. It's easy to find. Next one,
this is the diamond type pricking iron. For me I use one dent, two dents and four dents.
I use the mullet and I put a thick leather with tan leather on it too. Flat tip plier. You can take
the needles out of the leather, the project and use to tap the blade. Use in many many
purposes. The needle I use is John James. Okay. This is very good brand of it and I use the
number four. It's small enough to use in most of the project and it's still strong and durable.
But if you stitch something large you might need the larger one. Depends. No worry. And the thread
I use the linen thread from UFO. It is very good. Linen thread look more natural and have
wefts on it. And this is a thick wet tan leather. It's like the cutting board for kitchen but it's
for leather. You can punch the pricking iron on it. Do not punch directly on your table. Your table
will be like ruined. Lots of asteroid holes onto your table. But this help and also it keep the
sharpness of the pricking iron too. This is the sandpaper. I use number one and number five.
This is for woodwork. For refine the edge. If you work with wet tan leather and you have to
burning the edge too. For burning the edge. Gum chocolate can. Okay. Burnishing gum is needed
too. About the tools that it's okay if you don't have but this is help a lot if you work with lots
of type of works. This help to measure the thickness of the leather. So you can select
the thickness of the leather at the shop at your workshop. And the last thing this is the clamp
for hold the leather project for you. So you can apply freehand stitching like this.
