Mirror to the mind, wisdom from the Buddha.
Once in a quaint village nestled deep within the heart of the Himalayan mountains,
there lived a woman named Samaya. She was known far and wide for her wisdom and kindness.
Samaya's life was simple, but it held a profound message.
Samaya's small cottage was perched on the edge of a crystal clear lake,
surrounded by lush forests and towering peaks.
Every morning she would wake up before dawn and walk to the lakeshore.
There she would sit in silent meditation, gazing at the tranquil waters.
Villagers often wondered what secret knowledge she gleaned from these quiet moments.
One day a curious traveller approached Samaya and asked,
what is the purpose of your daily meditation by the lake?
What do you see in those waters that we cannot?
Samaya smiled gently and replied,
I see the reflection of life's essence, my friend.
In the stillness of this lake I find a mirror to the mind.
The ripples that disturb its surface represent the many troubles and desires of the world.
Yet beneath those ripples lies a profound serenity.
The traveller was intrigued but still puzzled.
But what can we learn from this?
She gestured toward the lake.
Observe, my friend.
When the lake is agitated, the reflection is distorted
and we cannot see the true beauty of the mountains, the trees or the sky.
But when the waters are calm, the reflection is clear and pristine, just like the mind.
Samaya's message began to spread throughout the village
and soon many villagers joined her in their daily meditations by the lake.
They learned to find moments of stillness amidst life's chaos,
to calm the ripples of their minds and to see the world with clarity.
The years passed and Samaya's wisdom touched not only the villagers
but also travellers from distant lands who sought her guidance.
Her story became a legend and people contemplated its significance deeply.
Samaya's life, so seemingly simple,
taught the profound lesson that true wisdom and serenity
can be found in the quiet moments when we reflect upon the depths of our own mind,
like a clear lake reflecting the world's beauty when undisturbed.
And so the legend lived on, reminding all who heard her tale that amidst the turbulence of life,
finding inner calm and clarity can lead to a deeper understanding of its true meaning.
