Well, a new day has begun, although for me the day started a few hours ago.
Right now it's like 9 in the morning, which seems early, but I woke up at 3.
And not because of the alarm, but because I still have a lot of jet lag.
Yesterday I went to bed at 8, so well, at least I've slept a few hours.
Let's see if little by little I'm moving it a little.
But today it has come in handy because I had an excursion that started at 4 in the morning.
And it's a very typical excursion from here, from the Titlán Lake area,
especially if you stay in the areas of San Juan, San Pedro, Santa Clara, etc.
And it is an excursion to a viewpoint, which is quite high, which is the viewpoint of the Mayan face.
And it is an excursion that is very good, especially for that, for the views from above.
They are amazing.
I'm going to show you now a few images of what the walk has been.
There are different options.
There, for example, you can go from San Juan, which is where I am, where I have the hotel.
You have the option of doing an excursion of about two and a half hours, three hours,
until you get here walking.
And in fact, the simplest part, in quotes, which is that they pick you up from your hotel,
they take you to Santa Clara.
And there you start the final climb, which is about 40-50 minutes, depending on your physical condition.
The climb is not complicated.
It is true that it is quite steep.
For me, the biggest problem is the altitude.
As you start to get quite high, you start to notice the lack of oxygen.
And that's why it can get a little harder.
Especially if you leave at four in the morning, you are not in a hurry.
Because you are going to arrive at five o'clock and the sunrise depends on the time of year.
But it is around six, six o'clock.
So you have a while to wait there.
I, in my case, have gone with a private guide.
But well, I guess because no one else came from the hotel.
You can also do it in a group so that it is a little cheaper.
There have been people who have come in larger groups.
And as I said, it is a very cool area.
It is an area called the Mayan face because it is a sacred area for the indigenous people here.
And as I already told you, it is in the Chichío area.
And it is also called that way because the mountain has the shape of a person's face.
If you see it lying down, looking up.
In general, Guatemala is an area where there are still many Mayan indigenous people.
And they have their own cultures, traditions, etc.
I highly recommend that you go sheltered.
Because you may think, well, here there are twenty-odd degrees, there is humidity, it is going to be hot.
And then the sunrise is simply impressive.
I have had breakfast, which has spectacular views of the hotel from all over the lake.
I hope you liked this little excursion.
I have gotten a little lazy. I have already taken a shower.
I have finally changed my clothes.
And now I'm going to explore a couple of little villages.
San Juan and San Pedro, which are very close to each other.
I'm going to start with San Juan, which is where the hotel is.
You already saw it yesterday.
In total it is about ten minutes.
But hey, you can also go by tuk-tuk.
What happens is that since the hotel is a little far away, there are not many to see.
This is the access to the hotel.
It is here like a dirt road between gardens.
You see here how there are plantations.
So let's take a look at the murals and what these little villages have to offer us.
I'm already visiting San Juan. I'm here with my friend.
There are three of them back here.
The truth is that it is a very beautiful town.
Last night it was not so appreciated because the murals were in the dark.
But now it is much more vibrant.
In fact, there are several main streets.
There are not many because the town is not very big.
But there are a few main streets that are beautiful.
For example, this one is decorated with baskets.
With some ribbons hanging all over the street.
And it is super colorful. It has a lot of murals.
And the murals are not only something artistic as such.
They are mainly used as a way of expressing the Mayan traditions, their culture, their day to day.
It is a way of preserving everything that is their culture.
So I think it's beautiful.
The street of the hats
Now I'm in the street of the hats.
Which is the one I showed you last night.
It has these hats up here.
The truth is that it is a beautiful street.
In the daytime it looks much more vibrant, much more colorful.
It is full of stalls on the sides with all kinds of souvenirs, clothes.
You have everything.
And also restaurants.
And you can see that there is much more atmosphere.
There are quite a few restaurants.
There is background music.
And if you continue down the street of the hats.
You are going to continue passing through markets.
You go through a kind of wooden walk.
And you get to the port.
Which is the one that connects with other villages of the lake that I mentioned yesterday.
So if you want to go to other areas, this is the point you should go to.
And if not, you can also take the tuk tuk.
But this is better for villages that are very close.
Because if not, it is a crisis.
Because there are a lot of roads between villages.
They are all slopes.
They have a lot of slopes.
They are very closed curves.
So in the end it can be complicated on the road.
I mean, it's not that it's dangerous.
But it's a lot heavier than just going on a boat.
That in 10-15 minutes you are there.
I have come to one of the cafes that are on this street of the hats.
I don't know exactly what the name of the place is.
I don't know if it's Café San Juan or if it's the coffee brand.
But hey, it seems to be a coffee specialty place.
They have a few shelves with all kinds of coffees.
Both dark, light, medium.
Both in grain, ground.
They also have honey, which is also very typical.
Here they also grow a lot.
I have also been able to do a tour where they explain about it.
And I would have taken a coffee with milk.
But I think I should have taken a coffee and that's it.
Because they have put this to me.
Which is basically milk with some coffee.
And also a cheese tart.
Let's see how it is.
It looks good.
But hey, it's also like a break.
Because the sun is hitting quite hard now.
So...
And especially for taking it calmly.
I'm in no hurry.
Which is strange in my trips.
Normally I usually do a thousand things every day.
And this one I'm taking it with a little more calm.
It's going to have some little things of adventure.
But also more relaxation days.
Which I also feel like.
