Rachel McAdams opens up to ‘Variety’ about why she turned down the opportunity to reunite with her former co-stars, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert, for a recent ‘Mean Girls’-inspired commercial.
Rachel McAdams reveals why she turned down the chance to play Regina George again.
You're like really pretty. Thank you.
So you agree? What?
You think you're really pretty. Oh, I don't know.
In a new interview with Variety, the actress weighs in on her decision to opt out of a
commercial where her former co-stars Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert
all reprised their Mean Girl roles.
I am such a good mom. I'm impressed.
And I'm Karen. We know.
Yeah. Okay.
Rachel admits, quote,
I guess I wasn't that excited about doing a commercial, if I'm being totally honest.
A movie sounded awesome, but I've never done commercials, and it just didn't feel like my bag.
If you only knew how mean Amber really is. Do you want to go out later?
I can't go out. I'm sick.
Rachel adds she didn't know at the time that everyone had agreed to do it.
Rachel assures fans,
I would, of course, always love to be part of a Mean Girls reunion and hang with my plastics.
But yeah, I found that out later.
Having lunch with the plastics was like leaving the actual world and entering girl world.
And girl world had a lot of rules.
As for why the actress isn't back for the upcoming Mean Girls movie musical,
Rachel says the movie's co-writer, Tina Fey, sort of dabbled with a few ideas,
but it was tough to make it all work in the end.
I think people are going to love this cast.
I hope that people are going to love these songs.
And I hope that people will find moments where they're like, oh, I didn't expect that.
I was really down for whatever she wanted to do.
I think the direction it went in will be fantastic, and I cannot wait to see it.
That is so fetch.
Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen.
It's not going to happen.
After the Mean Girls-themed commercial aired,
E.T. spoke to Lacey about portraying her character, Gretchen Wieners, again.
Man, I don't have to sex sell me.
This is going to be so fetch.
Stop trying to make fetch happen, Mom.
It's still not going to happen.
It was so much fun to step back into Gretchen's shoes and to be with Lindsay and Amanda and
spend the day together.
And just the full circle moment, again, of all of it where Mom's now nearly 20 years have passed.
And we had so much fun being together.
Even as the guidance counselor, I was still getting schooled.
Gruel.
Huh?
What's gruel?
It's nothing.
Ahead of the 20-year anniversary of the film's release,
Lacey said that she thinks a sequel would be amazing,
but she's just glad they got to do the commercial together if nothing more comes of it.
I'm so thankful that we had that experience and had the chance to do that.
Us fans are thankful, too.
And we think a sequel with the whole crew would be, yeah, totally fetch.
