Here are 10 super fun figure skating tricks that any skater can do.
Hello and welcome back to my channel. Today's video is going over 10 super fun skating tricks
that any skater can try. If you follow me on Instagram or TikTok, you know that I like to
try a lot of fun and unique tricks, so I've compiled a list of my top 10 favorites that
I think any skater can try. The first trick on my list is really easy and it actually impresses
a lot of people, especially if you're planning to go skating with friends, you're going skating for
the holidays or you're going on a skating date, this is sure to impress whoever you're with.
And that trick is backward skating. Backward skating is basically the same as our forward
skating, except instead of going forwards, we're going backwards. And this tends to impress a lot
of people because most people can only skate forwards and are a little bit intimidated to
skate backwards. So if you want to impress your friends while you're out skating, definitely make
sure to try this trick to impress them. The next trick on my list is a spiral. Now you could do a
one foot glide and still impress your friends, but I think a spiral just goes the extra mile
and is a really fun trick that everyone can learn. And you can add this into your program
or just do it for fun. Spirals are essentially one foot glides, except instead of standing upright,
we are going to be in a 90 degree tabletop position where our head and our leg are basically
going to be equal. Just like I'm showing here in the video. Now, if you'd like to make your
spiral a little bit fancier, you can try to lift your hip up higher than your head. There are also
really fun spiral variations where you can do a catch foot. You could do a Y spin, I spin, and
you could do a couple other ones. So definitely something you can experiment with and have a lot
of fun trying. The next item on my list is a two foot spin. This one is a fun trick that I think
almost any skater can try. I do have a beginner friendly tutorial on the two foot spin here on
my channel. I will leave it linked on screen and in the description box below. For our two foot spin,
you're essentially just turning in a circle on two feet. And this one is really fun to do. It
also impresses people. And if you'd like to go a step above the two foot spin, you can lift up
your foot once you're in the spin and do a one foot spin. If you want to impress your friends
even more, you can lift your arms up while you're in the spin. There are so many fun things you can
do with a two foot or one foot spin. The next skating trick is a little bit more advanced,
but again, something that a lot of beginners can at least try to attempt. And that is a lunge,
or if you'd like to take it a step further, a spider lunge, which is personally my favorite.
For this trick, all you're going to do is skate forward and you're going to drop your free legs
straight out behind you. Like I am showing here in the video, keeping your arms straight out to
the side is going to help you stay balanced while you go down into the lunge position.
The key to having a good lunge is turning your foot sideways. So your toe pick is facing out
towards the side and it's not dragging face down on the ice because this will just stop you and
it might topple you over. If you'd like to learn more about how to do a basic forward lunge,
I will leave a link here on screen and in the description box below, because I covered this
in my adult one through six series. Now, if a lunge sounds like it's too easy of a trick for
you, then I have a challenge and that is to try the spider lunge. This is essentially the same
as our regular forward lunge, except we are going to pull our knee in behind us. And we are going
to arch our back and lean all the way over. Just like I'm showing here in the video.
This skating trick definitely takes some hip flexibility as well as a little bit of back
flexibility. But if you are up for the challenge, this is definitely a fun one to try. This next
one is a little bit more challenging and does require a little bit of flexibility and strength
to do, but once you get the hang of it, it can be really fun. This trick is called a hydro blade.
I am not the best at this one, but I can definitely give it my best shot. For this trick, you're going
to do a back crossover and then you are going to slowly lower to the ground while two of your hands
are touching the ice and one leg is sticking out to the side. If a hydro blade looks too intimidating
for you, you might like this next trick a little bit more. This trick is called a knee slide. It's
exactly how it sounds. You are sliding on your knees and there are so many fun different
variations and things you can do building off of a basic knee slide, but essentially you are pushing
out into a slide that is happening on one or both of your knees. There are a lot of fun ways you can
incorporate a knee slide into your program. You can add it into your footwork, transitions, and
even do a slide out of a spin. Now if spins, sliding around on the ground, and spirals just
are not your thing and you would like to try jumps but you're a little bit intimidated by a waltz
jump, a bunny hop is a really fun trick. A bunny hop is the foundational piece for a waltz jump. I
essentially call it a half waltz jump because that's what you're doing. You're just going to
roll up onto your toe pick, kick up in the air, and land forward just like I'm showing here. I
have a full tutorial here on my channel, so if you're interested in learning how to do a bunny
hop, definitely go check that out. If you think a bunny hop is too easy, you can always do a waltz
jump. That is a super fun trick and if you want to impress your friends or anyone at the rink,
this will definitely do it. Next item on my list is almost every skater's favorite either on purpose
or accidental. It is a butt spin. This is another trick that is exactly how it sounds. You are
essentially doing a spin on your butt and I think any level of skater can do this. Most of the time
butt spins will happen as a result of just falling out of a sit spin or anything like that, but a lot
of skaters will do butt spins for fun and you can even try to go as fast as you can. Now I don't
know what to call this next trick. We found it on Instagram and we decided to try it. It's kind of
like a shoot the duck combined with a lunge, but anyways we had a lot of fun trying this one and
I think out of all of us, Madeline was the most successful. My attempts at it were not as
successful, but that is just part of the learning process in skating. Now this last trick is my
absolute favorite trick. If you have ever seen my comedic impressions, you know what trick I'm about
to talk about and that is doing push-ups on the ice. I had the idea to add this to my skating
program because I thought it just fits with the theme so well and the timing of the music perfectly
so I had to do it. So essentially you just do a knee slide into a plank position and then into a
couple push-ups. I'm not very good at push-ups because my butt is all the way up in the air,
but I still have fun doing it and the crowd gets a kick out of it whenever I do it. So let me know
down in the comment section below is this a trick you will try and are there any tricks that I shared
today that are your favorites or ones that you're looking forward to try yourself? Let me know.
Today's video was a little bit shorter, but I will have a couple longer ones coming up. If you're new
my channel, make sure you like and subscribe so you can stay up to date on all of my most recent
videos. I am making an effort to post a little bit more, but anyways I will see you in the next video.
