Design of home space
This is Norway's most luxurious log cabin.
We're two hours away from the capital city of Oslo,
on a beautiful white snowy mountain,
home to the 1994 Winter Olympic Games.
Now it's minus 20 out here,
so we're going to head inside and check it out.
We've traveled from London for the perfect Christmas escape.
Our trip started with a quick flight directly from London to Oslo.
We were then picked up by our hosts,
where we enjoyed a beautiful scenic drive
through wonderful and diverse Norwegian landscapes.
It was evening by the time we arrived,
so we got settled and got cosy by the fire
with the perfect hot cup of cocoa.
Look how incredible the cabin looks from the outside.
It's quite rare to see this much glazing on a cabin,
but this place is so modern inside.
We're so excited to show you.
Now, if we turn around, Tom, to give a bit of the scenery,
it is so beautiful here in Norway.
It's my first time,
and look at the sun on the other side of the mountain.
It's December while we're filming this,
so it's feeling Christmassy.
I know Matt's inside the cabin right now,
eager to show us around,
so let's go on in and meet him.
Welcome to the cabin.
It's cold. Come on in, let's explore.
Welcome inside to what is really not your typical log cabin.
I can't wait to show you guys around.
So here in the entrance,
I'm on some really nice heated tiles at the moment, Norwegian tiles.
So there's full underfloor heating system throughout this area.
Let me show you.
Minus 16 degrees right now,
and all of that, no snow.
So I could walk out here in socks.
It's nice for keeping your feet warm,
but very functional too,
because if there's any water coming in,
you know, when you bring in all your ski gear and you're all wet,
it just dries the floor instantly.
And then through this door or via a door at the front,
you actually come into your own ski storage area.
So the space for ski boots, actual skis,
washing machine, tumble dryer,
and some more storage there.
So you can then shut that and it's all nicely tucked away.
Again, really wide, lots of storage.
And Tom, there's something cool behind you, right?
Yeah, it's basically a whole spa behind there.
So stay tuned.
But first we're going to check out this very clever door.
Now look at this.
Soft close, really high quality,
such a clever mechanism there that saves both time and space.
But most importantly, it looks amazing.
So come on through.
We're going to check out the dining and kitchen space initially.
This is a nine-seater table.
And what I'd like to point out is all of the furniture,
all of the interior design,
what I love is it's all been taken care of in-house by LHM.
So they have different elements of their business
that create everything at the factory,
in the design studio,
and deliver it here to Norway.
So come on through.
Let's check out this kitchen in some more detail.
We have a beautiful kitchen island here,
a decked-on island in colours
and a theme that really suits the space and the scene.
Obviously you've got incredible thickness there.
And then the rest of the kitchen island is made in oak
with some really nice carpentry details.
A ribbed effect here.
We have drink storage, a wine fridge over here.
And while we're a little lower,
I want to point out the flooring.
This is oak flooring, 250 millimetres wide
with a six millimetre oak top layer.
And this is glued down to concrete.
And that is where all of the underfloor heating system is.
Now, if I was to ask you how far into the mountain
you have to dig down to create a geothermal energy system,
what would you guess?
70 metres all the way down there.
And it costs at least €30,000 more
than a traditional system.
Now, why would you do that?
You might ask.
Okay, so it's around five times more energy efficient
than your typical heating system.
Attention to detail really is second to none
throughout the cabin.
And that's what you find across all of LHM cabins
from our experience here so far.
As the co-founder, Lourinas, will tell you.
My name is Lourinas.
I am the 50% owner of the company LHM.
We founded it 20 years ago from scratch
with a guy who was 23.
I was 25 at that time.
And we had nothing, just some hand tools,
no factory, no money, no investors.
Just a dream and a big idea
how we could build the most beautiful mountain homes.
And we were very much into the quality from day one,
from the first cabin we built.
We wanted to deliver as good as possible product
for the customer.
Not thinking about how much it will cost us to do it,
just to get as good as possible result.
In the factory, we have about 130 people.
Everyone knows that quality is the first priority.
Hi, my name is Erik.
I'm from outside Oslo,
and this is my cabin here in Kvitveld.
We've been here in this area for 16 years.
We never actually looked at this side of Kvitveld before.
But then a friend of ours
bought one of the first cabins from LHM.
We went in there and my wife and I spent three minutes,
looked at the details,
walked out again and said,
yeah, we're gonna do business with them.
The quickest thing I've ever been to.
Now, one of the most eye-catching parts about this kitchen
has to be this LED lit cabinet,
with again, beautiful attention to detail.
So starting over on the right,
we have the integrated Miele fridge and freezer below.
We have some beautiful doors that open here
and display all of your glasses.
Now, what's amazing,
and you might have to get a closeup on this,
is the LED lighting is actually inset perfectly.
Typically, when you see LED light strips,
you can actually see the strip.
And it's okay for like a standard finish,
but if you want to achieve that really high end,
you need to not be able to see the light strip at all.
You actually just wanna see the glow.
Yeah, even the hinges are invisible.
Yeah, and that has been executed perfectly here.
I have to say, never seen quality like that with LED lighting.
So we have the Miele oven here in the center.
Now, a cool fact,
you don't really have any microwaves in Norway
or most of Scandinavia.
It's very much a UK and American thing.
So there isn't a microwave,
but you don't really need one.
And we have lots of storage space here,
very cleverly done.
So you have a tool cupboard there,
ideal perhaps for a Hoover
or some other brushes or something,
more storage that side.
Now, over here again on the Depton worktop
is the Miele induction hob.
You don't need any big, ugly extractor fan above there.
And I like they've actually gone for a glass backsplash here.
So it almost still looks like the wood
just goes directly down.
It's not taking your eyes away from the pine,
the true feel of the cabin.
Tom, what do you think to this kitchen design?
That backsplash looks easy to clean.
So it's definitely a benefit.
So cozy in here.
Reminds me of the Scandinavian term, hygge.
Yeah, very hygge in here.
Now moving through the kitchen,
we have the tap and a black sink here in the center
with a nice window.
Now all of the LHM cabins come with triple glazing windows
as standard,
which I do think is an essential here in this temperature.
Although for our whole experience
over the past couple of days,
every single time we've been in the cabin,
it's been so toasty and warm.
You almost find yourself like wanting to layer off.
And that's only with the underfloor heating
on like a basic setting.
So this side of the island,
they've integrated some clever space for books
and more storage.
And then as we continue through here,
we have more windows.
This is a door onto the terrace,
which is snowed over at the moment.
But what's really cool,
if you didn't know in Norway,
they have a great spring and summer season as well.
And because of the regulations with how cabins are built,
all of the roofs are grass roofs.
So if you were to look across the mountainscape
in the summertime,
all the cabins would blend into the scenery.
So it creates a really diverse, amazing scene
that's totally different to what you experience
during winter.
I've been skiing all over Norway
and a few places in Europe as well.
Always come back to Kvittfjell.
They have everything.
They have the meanest downhill course you can have,
which is perfect on Saturday morning
when you're all alone.
Or you can have your kids go out without supervision
just outside this cabin here.
They have everything you want
from beginners to the absolute badass downhill you can get.
And I mean, not only in wintertime,
but in summer and Easter and spring.
I mean, you can have your push bike around here.
Heaps of water.
You can go fishing.
I mean, they have everything.
As we move into what is my favorite part of the property,
you can even consider it the great room of the cabin.
I'm going to show you around.
So we have a feature wall here
with oak on there in different panel sizes.
Then you see this incredible window,
almost like an A-frame,
a design that was pioneered by LHM Group
for the luxury cabin
and has been imitated with many others now.
But it really gives you a complete picture frame
of the view outside.
And that's what it's all about.
I was sat here earlier on this chair
with the fire on, silence,
and just enjoying that incredibly expansive view.
Now the interior design as we've talked about is incredible.
And what's great is wherever your cabin is being designed,
you can have this exact interior package
or one similar.
Like everyone is custom really to each cabin
where you see this and also this beam.
In most cabins, they would also go to the ground,
massively restricting your maneuverability in this area
and particularly the flow
into the open plan kitchen space.
So a lot of structural steel
has been used to achieve that look here,
which again is very rare,
but it's so worth it like for me
because you get this massive open space
and it's just incredible to look at.
The fire's roaring.
The fire is roaring.
And how about this for a fireplace?
Beautiful.
So this is a brushed steel
that has then been actually painted
with crushed steel within the paint
to give this really nice natural finish,
minimalistic in design.
How about the colors?
Just really work.
And this is again,
interior designed by LHM Interiors.
And we have the fireplace below.
We'll just put another log on there.
It's roaring nicely.
You get so much heat off that.
I love how the bench as well
goes all the way to the window.
I've got some nice ornaments on there.
Yeah, I love that design.
And what you might like too, Tom,
is there's actually electric charging sockets built in there.
So for Hoover or anything like that,
for charging your phone,
if you're sat on there,
you can connect that right in there.
We've got ventilation here.
Again, like triple aspect windows really.
So you can be in any part of this area.
You just enjoy views uninterrupted
across the mountains,
which are really quite something.
You can see for miles.
Literally.
The scale of the view is amazing.
Especially on a sunny day
like we've had amazing weather
these past few days.
Yeah, we've been blessed.
So come on over.
I want to show you guys the staircase,
which is more than a staircase.
It's a focal point.
It's a piece of artwork
within the property itself for me
because the level of craftsmanship details on this
is just remarkable.
So it's been designed in a way
as you come down,
you can access the room directly that way
or you can come through here
directly into the kitchen
and out into there.
We have LED lights,
again, tucked away.
So that really luxury finish
as we go up the stairs
and then nice use of glass here.
You can see where the glass mechanisms would be here
and they've actually put
nice little bits of oak on the end.
Yeah, but what's cool is
if you like this staircase,
LHM Step,
which is a branch of the LHM Group,
actually create these staircases
and you can have it delivered
really wherever you are in the world.
There's one being built in the UK right now.
So that's pretty cool.
If you want something like that,
you can check out LHM Step.
I'll link that in the description below.
I'll take one.
Yeah, me too.
Send them over.
What is unique about LHM
is that we have a production site
in Lithuania,
which is a combination
of mountain home production,
staircase production
and furniture production.
So we started 20 years ago
just with mountain homes.
But then 10 years ago,
we also started furniture and stair production.
And the reason to do that
is because we wanted to be able to deliver
seamlessly integrated product as one.
Just like when you buy a car,
you wouldn't buy your seats
and your lights somewhere else, right?
You would buy as one product.
So we had the same philosophy
that the house should be
completely delivered by one factory,
designed and produced in one place.
So we're going to go into the principal bedroom.
Now, each door is quite special.
They're thicker than your typical door,
but they actually have
a clever magnetic lock system.
So if I was to close the door right now,
it would lock automatically with a magnet.
But then to open it again from the inside,
you just open it like that.
So I'll show you.
And now it's locked.
And then you unlock it with the handle.
Wow. Almost like a front door.
You know, when you're closing,
it locks automatically.
Yeah. And it's safe.
It's easy.
You don't have to ever remember to unlock it.
You just open it like the usual,
but then it's locked.
Come on through into the principal bedroom,
which is probably the most cozy space
you're going to see watching a YouTube video today.
And if you are appreciating this video,
drop us a like and subscribe to the channel
so you can see more.
And if you're watching this around Christmas,
happy Christmas.
It's snowing outside.
This is the perfect Christmas home.
So we hope you guys are having an amazing festive break
and enjoying this episode.
Let's carry on.
So this bed has been entirely custom bespoke made
for this particular cabin,
again by LHM Group.
So you have the woodwork here,
nice velvet fabric finish with some ambient lighting.
There's access via a door here onto your private terrace,
which you can enjoy amazing views,
the triple glazed windows,
nice artwork again.
And then what's quite rare for a Norwegian cabin
is to have a walk-in wardrobe space.
So if you guys didn't know in Norway,
you're restricted by the total building size
that you can do in square meter,
depending on area.
So it's quite rare to have a room this large.
Typically it would be allocated
to another bedroom or something.
But yeah, it's a really good quality finish.
These are tinted,
plenty of storage space in there.
Again, nicely integrated LED lights.
I think it's time we show you one of the en-suites.
So we have a sliding door here.
Check out this basin,
incredible design.
This is actually made up of several Italian tiles,
three meters in size,
multiple layers with a special foam system
to get it into this shape.
And we have the LED light here.
So there's the light for looking at yourself
and then there's an LED light behind there as well.
So you can have different levels of ambience.
A shower over here with again,
some nice big gray tiles.
Monsoon style shower head.
And then lastly in here,
I just want to show you that the tiles
do blend exactly with the wood,
which we'll need a close-up shot over there.
But that's again, a really nice detail.
They're not on top.
So it's a perfectly flush line.
This door takes us outside.
So do you want to see some snow?
Let's do it.
Let's go.
Come on out.
Oh my gosh.
Yeah, you feel it straight away.
Beautiful Norwegian snow.
I thought I was about to get snowboard then.
I was going to say.
I thought about it.
My hands will be cold for the rest of the video.
So you can come out here,
jump straight in the hot tub
and you can go back in through the sauna as well.
So, so picturesque out there.
Like it's so warm in the cabin.
I actually want to leave the door open
to get some fresh air.
But I'm not going to do that to the heating.
Okay, so back in through the bedroom.
Let's take you this way.
This is a nice angle actually
to check out the staircase once again
and the design there.
Connected then with where the hot tub is.
I'm going to take you around
and actually show you the sauna.
So back into the entrance
where we started this tour.
We have a door access here.
So come on in.
So as another bathroom
with the same Italian diesel sink.
Shower here with the monsoon showerhead
and here is your sauna.
So it's the perfect spot to come after a day skiing
and that connects nicely to the hot tub.
I think it's time for us to enjoy that.
So we'll clip to us out there now through there.
Bare feet.
Oh, that is crunchy.
Let's get this open.
Oh, that's steamy.
I've got a microphone in my hand.
Usually I would do more of that.
Okay, let me turn it on.
Someone's got the lights.
Lights are on.
Okay, Tom, you've got to get in now.
Okay.
How do we film you?
Like that.
Just get in with the camera.
We just got in and it's starting to snow.
I don't know if you can see on the camera.
It's a very serene setting.
Tom's enjoying himself over there.
I think Tom's going to head out into the snow.
It's so f****** cold.
Right, we need to get even hotter.
I'm going to head to the sauna.
That was fun in the hot tub.
It's time to carry on the tour now.
So back into the open plan area.
We're here by the staircase.
I want to show you the first floor.
Let's go.
On the first floor.
Now, ceiling heights.
This log cabin has actually been designed within a one centimeter degree
of the maximum regulations for this area.
So they've definitely utilized all of the ceiling heights possible.
And for a log cabin, it's quite spacious up here.
So it's nice.
And then come on through.
Again, something which is totally unique.
You wouldn't typically see in a log cabin here in Norway
is an open plan or an open area that you can look through into a living room.
Really enjoying the interior design throughout here.
I think this is the space where you're here away with, you know,
a few other couples or a family, an extended family,
and you're playing some board games, TV, some drinks.
It's a really cozy spot to be.
But best of all, it has, I think, one of my favorite designs in a bedroom
because it has these beautiful little, like, nooks,
which make the perfect, well, kids or adults beds, to be fair,
because they're actually like a full size single bed.
But I think mostly, like, for kids to jump in there.
And I don't know about you guys watching,
if you're, you know, remember back to being a kid,
I think you'd just absolutely love that.
100%. We'd be linking up all of our DSs.
Yeah, it would be the DS multiplayer, have Mario Kart on, you know, those times.
So there's four of them.
So you can actually sleep quite a lot of people here if you really want to as well.
We're on the landing now,
and there's a couple of nice storage spaces for all of your suitcases.
So you've got space there and then a space over at the end.
The bathroom is in the center.
So it has like a shorter doorframe, but that's because of the build regulations.
But then when you're inside, this room is really quite big.
Let me show you.
Oh, wow. Yeah, it really opens up.
Yeah, loads of space in here.
Nice big shower and everything you possibly need.
Loads of storage underneath there.
So if I come back out here and I'll show you the other side,
where we have not just the one storage here.
And what's amazing is the level of quality still continues up here
with the magnetic locks on everything.
So we have two double bedrooms through there.
Really quite nice.
All right, it's now 7.30.
And Laurenjas and Laura have invited us for dinner over at their place.
So we're going to head over now and continue to enjoy this magical location here in Norway.
It's evening time now in the cabin.
We've been having such an incredible time here in Norway,
experiencing this cabin as well as the duplex apartment.
I wanted to leave you guys with some more information.
So don't forget there are several cabins here available in varying layouts that you can check out.
There's also the luxury apartments that are in the other video.
You should definitely go watch that if you haven't seen it already.
We have LHM Step if you would like to purchase a staircase like this anywhere in the world.
And what's really cool as well, if you have a plot in a different location
and you'd like a luxury cabin like this built,
you can also reach out to LHM and see what they can do for you.
We hope you've enjoyed this episode.
