Golden Retriever Meets Two Terrified Rescue Puppies

Guide to Golden Retriever Care

We've just rescued these two dogs.
When we brought them home, they started to open up.
One even had the zoomies.
But when they met our two dogs, they went the complete other way.
It's been a crazy journey to even get them to this point.
And the chaos started as soon as we picked them up.
Oh, that's bad.
So this is rescue number one, and her name is Pickle.
She looks really nervous.
And that's because Pickle traveled here with her two sisters,
but they got fostered by another family.
So she was sadly separated from them.
And then we have Sandy, who isn't covered in mud.
She had an accident in her crate, the poor thing.
She absolutely stank.
But honestly, we didn't even care at this point.
We just wanted her to feel safe.
We thought that this was a bit of a nightmare start, but it gets even worse.
We're driving home with the dogs.
We had to put Sandy in the boot because she's a smelly girl
and also too big for Ella's lap.
Pickle, being extremely nervous, also had an accident.
The smell was overwhelming.
I've never smelled something so bad before in my life.
But then I noticed the smell had gotten even worse.
Oh, bless her.
And we were pretty confident that Sandy had another accident in the boot.
Oh, my God. How's it getting worse?
Because of this, as soon as we arrived home,
we brought them into the garden quickly in case they needed the toilet again
and then took them immediately to the shower.
Pickle had a pee on the towels.
Nice break from the dog poo.
Thanks, Pickle.
And when we went to shower them, at first I was really apprehensive
because I don't know the dogs yet.
They might bite.
But it turns out they actually liked being groomed.
Sandy literally turned the water brown and Pickle took about one minute to wash
because she's the size of a Malteser.
Both dogs showered.
Now, finally, they can explore the house.
But look, Sandy's smelling the dogs.
Our two dogs are currently out so that we can give these two some time
to get used to their surroundings before meeting them.
They were a bit unsure at first.
But it didn't take them long to start coming out their shell.
Oh, is that playing?
She just high fives me.
Good girl.
Yes.
High five.
Hello.
Oh, good girl.
Oh.
Yes, Sandy.
Good girl.
Pickle now.
Come on.
She's a snake.
That's why.
Pickle, good girl.
Well done.
So now it's time for Sandy and Pickle to meet Kobe and Mokey one by one,
starting with Mokey.
Once we felt comfortable letting Mokey wander around on her own,
we picked up the camera again.
She's crying.
Right, and this one's harness has come right off.
Mokey, come.
Mokey, come here.
Who is that?
This one, Sandy.
Mokey, come.
Mokey, sit.
I don't want to walk.
The dogs completely shut down as soon as they met Mokey.
Oh, she's thruffing at the mouth again.
Sit.
Both dogs came from a foster in Belarus
where they shared a home with 19 other dogs and four cats.
I guess they were at the bottom of the pecking order
or had some bad experiences with other dogs.
Mokey is really good with them,
giving them space when they needed it.
Right, I'm going to go for a walk up there.
Mokey, come.
Come on, Sandy. Come on, darling.
She's like, I'm scared.
Mokey, come. Mokey, away.
Mokey, come.
She's very scared.
Yeah, she is.
Aww.
Good girl, Moke. Mokey wants to go in.
Mokey was definitely making sure they knew who's boss,
standing proud.
But you could tell she also just wanted to be friends with them.
We're so happy with her behaviour.
It must be pretty stressful for her, too.
Let's see if they saw it out.
Oh, Pickle, you found somewhere safe.
And then Pickle actually started to become the braver dog.
Still scared, but she walked around to try and find her footing.
Well done.
Pickle probably did this because she subscribed to the channel.
If you could too, that would be amazing.
But that did make Mokey a little too comfortable
and she completely misread the room.
Because of this, it did make Pickle a bit more on edge.
Sandy clearly still needed some time.
She was found in a cardboard box near rubbish bins
and she clearly had trust issues with other dogs.
That went OK, not great.
Let's see how they react to Kobe.
Oh yeah, they can smell each other.
She's avoiding him.
Oh!
Hello, Kobes.
Oh, good girl.
I was very careful with Sandy.
She was clearly overwhelmed and I didn't want to add to that.
But Kobe could definitely feel that, too.
So he sat near her, but didn't stare at her.
But that still wasn't enough for Sandy to feel comfortable.
Kobe's like, who's that tiny little one?
Pickle, on the other hand, wasn't doing too badly,
which is amazing considering she was just left in a carrier
near a rescue in Belarus.
Some people can be so heartless.
And now it's time for all dogs to meet at the same time.
No, no, no.
That's my lovely mum, who came to say hello to Sandy,
who was clearly still very uncomfortable.
While Sandy is still really standoffish,
after a few days, things actually got a bit better.
