Hi there, hope you're having a great week. Welcome to today's video. If you follow me on Instagram
or Facebook, you may have noticed recently somebody got a haircut. I don't know really
what inspires me at any time, but sometimes things just do, and I feel like I need a change. And so
I was feeling the need to go a little bit shorter, and I went rummaging through some photos,
found some things that piqued my interest. Off to the salon I went, and here we are. Which leads to
the topic of today's video, and it is a no-fail way to get the hairstyle that you're looking for.
Now let me start off by saying this, and I've had a lot of you reach out to me over the years
inquiring about different haircuts, and people would say, well what do you call that? What's
the name of that style? And I'm a little reluctant to just give out a name because this is a long
pixie with texturized ends and a lot of pieciness around the nape. Now if you were to go to a hair
salon with that information, you are now leaving it up to interpretation, and every stylist has a
different view as to what it is that I just described. And so you may see it one way, your
stylist may see it another, and then you walk out of the salon completely unhappy, and then you're mad
at me. And I can't have that. So what I want to do is present to you the way that I go about a change,
and it's a process. You know I'm a journalist, and so it is my nature to research, and that's what I
do. So before I go anywhere, the first thing that I will do is get on Pinterest, my favorite site of
all time, the catalog of ideas from A to Z, hair in the middle. I love Pinterest. So I just go into
the search bar, type in what it is that I'm looking for. If it's a long pixie, if it's PC, if it's
whatever, you type in your keywords and poof, images start coming up. When I see images that
are interesting to me, things that I would like to emulate, I will then save them into my photos so
that I have them on my phone. So I will assemble a collage of photos, different looks, a little bit of a
longer version, a shorter version. Then I will find photos that have the hair color that I'm interested
in, because again, I don't want to leave that up to interpretation as well. So once I have amassed
these photos that give an idea of what it is that I'm looking for, I am then armed and ready to go
to the salon. Now, if you've been following me for the past couple of years on this channel, you know
that I have a couple of dear friends who are in the hair business. Two of the most extraordinarily
talented, sweet, wonderful human beings that I am so proud to call a friend. And I go to Cirone
usually when I'm going for longer looks, and I visit Emil at Salon Hermes when I'm going a little
bit shorter. So today I went over, well not today, but a few days ago, I went over to Emil's salon
and I was armed with my photos and my ideas, and here's how it all played out.
Hello! I love you. I love you more. I love you most.
Big day here today. We're gonna do a new cut on her today. Yeah. And Danielle is gonna do
fabulous highlights. Yeah. But we're gonna do the haircut afterwards. Okay. So we can see,
do the haircut according to the highlights, because it's gonna be totally different.
But she's the kind of woman that even if you shave her head, she's still gorgeous.
And it's meant. Thank you. But let's not shave it.
Highlights in high. Hi. I'm Daniel. We're doing some lowlights and highlights, so we're mixing
five colors. Okay. Don't try this at home. This is the appetizer. Oh, I see. Okay. Where's dessert?
Kind of the moose looking thing back here. Yeah.
Okay. Okay. So what colors did we decide on today? Well, today we decided to have a
kind of light red, brown red, and blondie red.
You're so helpful.
Every haircut, it's about how you take care of it. Whether it's a bob,
or if you're bobbing the hair, or layering it. And of course, we need to keep volume here.
On every woman, volume looks good. That's true. Everybody needs a little lift. Absolutely.
So what's your technique? Well, after you do the edging of the cut, or you do all the lining
that you want, then you do a lot of slicing to give details to the cut. And you go longer, longer,
where you get to the bangs. Either side, if you even the bangs out, either side you do
should go well. Oh, so you can flip it. You're not committed to one side. No. And everyone should
do that, because if you keep rubbing the same spot, your hair is going to get weak on that spot.
So always switch parts. Cool. It's always good for your hair. And of course, after you blow dry,
it shows what sides are thicker than the others. And then you do a little bit of slicing
to even it out accordingly. But after blow drying. Makes sense. Now I'm going to do a layer,
taking this angle. This way, this one would be a bit shorter coming this way. Right. But we still
keep length up front. Yes. Yeah. You can always cut more. You cannot add. That's true. So you take
it gradual. I like that conservative approach. Thank you. From the peanut gallery back there.
What's your favorite haircut to do? I don't have a favorite.
My favorite haircut is what looks good on that person with the type of hair that she has.
Danny wants to know why you're not dancing. Yeah.
He cracks me up. He cracks me up. No dancing while slicing, Danny.
If you notice, it's left long enough to where if you decide you want to do it behind the ears.
Right. Like it's a bit dressy if you do one side behind the ears. Right. I can slick it all the
way back. And funk this up. Right. With nice long earrings. It's very sassy and sexy. Cool.
And make the ends real straight, Emil. Although this rain outside is going to kill me.
Yeah, but there's something. It's an invention called umbrella. Yeah. And we have.
You're next. Colors good.
All kinds of stuff with it. Look at that face.
Thank you. Oh, that's awesome. That's really good color all around. You look you really look
fantastic. Thank you. So I can go I can go like this. I can do that. Yes. I can go back. I gave
you a slice in the front going at an angle like this. Now, when you decide to do it from this end.
Yeah. What you would have even more height here. Right. Because it goes opposite. Right.
You look right this way and then you flip it when it's still hot. Oh, see, this is good. Oh,
look. He gave me a highlight over here. Yeah. When I go this way. Oh, that's so cool. When it's
this short. Right. All you do is like this. Right. Make it messy. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Yes. Oh, that is so cool. So throughout the day, if it goes flat. Right. Just
run my fingers through the back. Yeah. You just go like this.
I love it. I think it is just it's wickedly cool. Cut. I know. Thank you guys so much.
So, so, so, so cool. Our pleasure. Thank you. Very, very hip and fresh.
Look at the canvas we have to work with. Must we? You're like a piece of art that
you can take everywhere. You don't have to hang on the wall.
Walking art. Yeah. A wart. I gotta get back. Yeah. Get back to business. Okay. Bye.
