Hi, friends.
We are finally in the Burr months,
which means it is socially acceptable to decorate
for autumn.
That's what we're going to be doing today.
I'm going to be decorating my living room for fall.
I am going to show you kind of what we're working with,
and then show you my haul, I guess,
for lack of a better term, just all of the new fall
decorations that I've gotten this year.
I don't think I've ever actually done
fall decorating in any sort of a grown up or planned out
capacity.
I've always had kind of a hodgepodge of Dollar Tree
items, homemade, handmade items, passed down items.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
But this year, I wanted to do something a little different
and get some new items and do sort of a theme for fall.
I always decorate for fall mostly
because it stays up for longer.
If you're going to go to all the trouble,
it might as well stay up for really almost three months.
You have all of September, October,
and then until you decide to take it all down
and decorate for Christmas to enjoy your fall decoration.
So that's what we're going to do today.
I'm going to show you everything that we got.
My theme for the year or sort of the focus or keyword
that I sort of wanted to anchor everything around is texture.
So I mean, obviously, the theme is autumn.
But the keyword that I wanted to be
is sort of the focus of everything
that I bought to put in my living room this year.
It's texture.
So we've got some wood, some velvet, glass.
I sort of just wanted everything to feel sort of textural
and really for the colors to be a little bit more
neutral and muted, not necessarily
sort of like a juvenile fall or something,
like a little bit more grown up.
And textural is my keyword.
So let me show you all this space that we're working with.
First, I'm going to take down everything
that I have up for summer right now,
kind of move out some of the things
that I have year round and some more summery items,
and then get everything just sort of cleared out
before I put fall on top of it.
I don't want to just put autumn decorations
right on top of everything that I've already got.
I want to kind of clear out the space first.
So let me show you the space that we're working with.
OK, y'all, here's the space that we're working with.
So I'm just going to keep the focus on this formal living
room today.
Probably do some other parts of the house
maybe later this month, especially once it
gets closer to Halloween.
We always do a little bit of Halloween.
My husband loves it.
It's very nostalgic for him.
But my key focus is decorating for autumn.
So as you can see, I've got my blue and white collection out.
I've got my big kitty right here.
I've got the hydrangeas, the yellow pillows for summer.
And because I'm Southern, I'm legally
obligated to put grassy balls in a bowl.
So I'm just going to be clearing some of that out
and making way for the pumpkins.
OK, y'all, this is everything that I'm kind of calling my hall.
And that's just for lack of something better to call it.
I kind of hesitate to use that word
because I think it suggests that you need to spend a mortgage
payment every year on brand new fall decorations, which
of course is not true.
Like I said, this is the first time
I think I've ever done this with any sort of plan
for autumn decorating.
I've always had just kind of a hodgepodge.
So you do not have to go out and spend a bunch of money.
All of this is either from Target, Walmart, Hobby Lobby,
a little bit of Marshalls or TJ Maxx.
I think that's about it.
So one of my favorite things that I decided to do
was to get instead, well, you see
I got a couple of new pillows.
But what I really wanted to do was get some new pillowcases
instead of all brand new pillows, which
is both cost effective and I don't
have a ton of indoor storage at my house.
So I don't really have anywhere to store pillows
for every season of the year.
So what I decided to do was just get some pillowcases
so that I can just change out the pillowcases on the pillows
that were already on the couch.
So I don't have to store a bunch of new pillows,
find somewhere to put those.
So yeah, we've got less than two hours now
before we have to be at a friend's house
to watch some college football.
So I still need to put some batteries in some items.
Got some light up stuff here.
So I'm going to go ahead and get started on that.
And then we'll get started putting everything out.
I think that my probably most difficult task
is going to be to get this garland to somehow stay
on my mantle there.
I don't really know how that's going to happen.
It might involve some tape.
I don't think these 1970s houses were ever
meant for a giant flat screen TV to be up on the mantle.
So we'll see how that goes.
This is very fun, feeling like I'm
doing this with other people and that I'm not by myself.
So I've got less than maybe an hour and a half to do this.
And so with that, let's get into it.
Oh, Mom, you forgot to wipe over there.
I did?
