Hi everyone, my name is Kat from At Home With Kat, and in today's video I'm going to be
decorating and cleaning my house.
And we'll get chit-chatty later in the video, I'll kind of talk to you guys while I'm doing
some stuff, but yeah, there's a lot to catch up on, it's been like, what, 7 months since
I've uploaded?
So, it's been a while.
I've used the same decor for the past 2 or 3 years, and I've decorated my house differently
every single year.
I wish that I had started YouTube earlier so that you guys could see, like, the different
ways that I've decorated for the holidays, but, unfortunately I can't, maybe next year.
Let's just go ahead and jump into this video, we'll get a little bit more chatty throughout
the video, and I will see you guys in a little bit.
Okay, so, I'm going to be transparent, the night before decorating, I went ahead and
dusted the surfaces that I planned on decorating, so I didn't have to do it, I didn't have to
do it today, but it just made my life a little easier because I know that I have ADHD brain,
and I would have ended up on the side quest to clean my entire house if I started cleaning
instead of jumping right into the decorating.
This is going to be the centerpiece for my dining room table, I'm actually going to do
two centerpieces for my dining room table, one is going to stay in the kitchen, and then
I'll switch them out later.
I am going to decorate for fall and Halloween right now, and then when Halloween is over
I'll put all of the Halloween things away, and leave the fall decor out so that I don't
have to really decorate twice, I just have to move a few things, and it'll be done.
These shelves are always my favorite thing to decorate, every single year I always keep
these plants on the shelves and then just decorate around them to coordinate with the
seasons.
They are fake plants by the way, because there's no way I am going to keep plants alive on
top of keeping myself, my toddler, and my pets alive, that's just too much, I don't
need another thing to take care of.
I love walking in my kitchen and seeing this shelf, it just makes me so happy, and I love
how it coordinates with the wallpaper in the background.
I do need to redo the wallpaper in the back, it's starting to peel off the wall.
It was my first wallpaper project, and it was definitely a learning experience, so I
am going to be redoing that with the same wallpaper and an adhesive this time.
It was just peel and stick, but it's not very sticky.
Anyway, right now I'm just working on the second centerpiece for the dining room table,
this is what I'll have out for Thanksgiving, and I'm just going to leave it out on this
little island in the kitchen.
It's not an island, it's a cabinet, I'm going to keep it on the cabinet in the kitchen.
I did end up adding a creepy cloth and a string of fairy lights to this shelf as well.
The Halloween tree with the ornaments on it is super nostalgic for me because it came
from my grandma's house, and I would help her decorate it by putting the ornaments on
it, and then I would take them off and put them back on, it was just fun for me when
I was a little kid.
I also have her witch and haunted house light up statues, they're glass so I couldn't play
with them or anything, but I do remember just staring at them and admiring them.
I just, I love them so much.
I think maybe that's why I like a lot of things that are spooky.
After I was done decorating, I went ahead and got the house cleaned up.
I have been just taking everything and putting it into a bin at the end of the day, and then
throwing it in the playroom.
Well, I shouldn't say everything, just my son's toys, but yeah, that's been my reality
for probably a week.
So the playroom is looking really, really rough, and nothing is organized.
So I'm going to tackle that after he goes to bed, because it is impossible to clean
the playroom while my son is away.
So while I'm vacuuming and mopping my house, I'm going to just fill you in on my life and
what's going on.
The biggest change in my life has been quitting my job.
I left the hair industry in June, and I am now a stay-at-home mom, which is something
that I've wanted for a really long time.
Even before my husband and I got married, of course, we talked about what we wanted
out of our lives, where we saw ourselves.
And I told him, I want to be a stay-at-home mom.
I want to be the one that takes care of our kids.
And he agreed that that would be amazing.
And we waited so long to have kids.
Well, partly waited so long to have kids, because we wanted to set ourselves up financially.
The other part of waiting so long was I have PCOS, and it's hard for me to get pregnant.
So anyway, the other major change in my life right now, or I guess more so my husband's
life, it affects both of us, but him a bit more because it's his career.
But he got a different job.
And he has been out of state for five weeks for job training.
So I've just been the solo parent at home.
And it's been rough on him, because obviously he misses us.
He misses being home.
And it's just always hard to be away from your family.
I feel like for me, it's not as hard as I was thinking it was going to be, but it's
still difficult.
I'm definitely glad that he will be coming home on Friday.
I've been talking for quite a while.
I'm going to let you guys just listen to the music while I clean.
After I got done vacuuming and mopping, I realized how dirty this table actually was.
It's not picking up very well on camera, but there was a lot of debris on it from all of
the Halloween decor.
So I just went ahead and wiped that off.
I know it's backwards, but I'm only human and I make mistakes.
So here we are.
Quick reminder to stay hydrated and drink your water.
That ice maker and that cup actually were from my husband.
He sent me a boo basket while he was out of state, and it was just the sweetest little
surprise ever.
And it meant so much to me.
The ice maker makes nugget ice, and it's kind of the best thing ever.
So if you need a really cool gift idea, I would definitely recommend getting somebody
a countertop ice maker, because I was just so excited when I got that.
And the cup is from Simple Modern.
It is their limited edition Halloween cup, and mine is the bat one, and it is so cute
and it's perfect.
Tell me you're a toddler mom without telling me you're a toddler mom.
I'll go first.
Look at my stove.
There's no knobs on it.
And if that doesn't scream this house has a toddler, I don't know what does.
And now we have made it to the dreaded playroom, and I'm very overwhelmed.
My phone actually ran out of memory while I was filming this, and I couldn't film the
entire process, but that's okay.
It ended up clean anyway.
I started by organizing things by category.
I thought that would be the easiest way to get it clean, and it worked out pretty well.
I also moved the tent out of this room because my son was not actually playing in the tents
in this room at all.
It just became stuffed animal storage.
So I put it in the living room, and he actually started playing in the tents in the living
room, so my idea did work.
I also used the open shelving on the little cubicle over there as kind of like a toy rotation.
So like on the open shelves, I put some toys out that I knew he was playing with and interested
in, and in the bins underneath, I put the toys that he really didn't play with very
often.
And I'm going to rotate them out every once in a while so that he stays interested in
what toys are available to play with, and I think that having them on the open shelving,
he'll be like drawn to those first.
So I think it'll just help him not be so overwhelmed with all of the options of toys, and he'll
be able to see what he has instead of having to search all over the floor and all over
in these bins to find what he wants to play with.
Hopefully, it'll just make it so that the playroom just stays a little bit cleaner.
As you can tell, I have many helpers.
The cat and the dog both decided to come and check this room out and make sure that I was
doing a good job.
The stay was so rewarding and also so exhausting at the same time.
I am very happy with how all of my decor turned out, and it was so nice going to bed in a
clean home.
I'm just going to switch over this laundry, and then I am going to get ready for bed.
Thank you guys so much for watching, and please subscribe for more content.
Bye!
