All right, well, Reese, Scarlett, Sing 2, very exciting.
The movie is full of heart, laughter, fun.
What can people expect for the sequel?
How are we upping the ante this time around?
There's a lot of, there's the,
well, the cast has gotten a lot bigger.
I mean, it's kind of crazy.
It's like, and there's all these new music.
I mean, Bono, Halsey, Goroff.
Like, it's just kind of bananas.
The brand is expanding.
It leveled up.
We're going up.
Yes.
And Reese, what are you most excited about?
I mean, obviously coming back to the scene in round two,
it's gotta be fun, especially with kids, yeah?
Oh my gosh, it was so fun to just learn the songs
and get to go into the recording studio
and work with that incredible music production team again.
But I was really excited about Bono.
I mean, I was really excited.
And I wanted to ask this one.
I mean, duet with Bono, no big deal.
Did you ever think in a million years
that one, that would happen,
or two, that it would happen in this setting, Sing 2?
No, I never.
I mean, in what world would I ever do that with Bono?
Like, maybe, like, I don't know.
In my 13-year-old fantasy, it was a possibility,
but not, like, I'm not a duet.
I don't duet.
And now I'm, now I'm, now we're dueting.
Now I'm dueting.
We're dueting with Bono.
That's right.
What was that experience like?
How did it actually play out technically?
Were you recording together?
Was it remote?
Well, we were all remote
because it was during the whole quarantine lockdown time.
And so at first it was kind of,
Garth sort of teased me that it may be Bono,
but he was like, I've sworn you cannot tell a soul.
So I was terrified of letting the cat out of the bag.
And then, like, I couldn't tell anybody at all.
And then it just was all so secretive
that when I recorded the song, I just didn't,
I thought it was like,
I was like, maybe it won't even make it in.
In no world does the duet with Bono not make it in, Garth.
I just didn't know.
I didn't know.
And then it just,
it didn't feel real until Garth sent me
the mixed version of it with Bono.
And I thought, this is, I guess this is,
people are going to hear this now.
It's happening.
I love it.
Reese, I want to talk to you a little bit
about your character, Rosita.
She gets a confidence boost this time around.
I love something that you told Gayle King
about the fact that you not only aren't apologetic,
but you are afraid to say when you're the best at something.
Where does that confidence come from?
In what ways do you feel similar to your character?
I mean, I think when I was talking to Gayle
in the context of like women stepping into leadership roles,
it's so important that we not diminish ourselves.
And I don't think men step into positions of power
or leadership by saying, I'm not very good.
I don't know.
I guess I shouldn't.
And I think, I think it's really,
I think it's really great as it pertains to Rosita,
you know, that she's taking a minute
to step into her dreams, you know?
And I think there are so many moms and dads
and caregivers out there who have dedicated
their entire life to taking care of children.
But it doesn't mean that they don't have goals or ambition.
So it's great to see that come alive, you know?
And that her family supports her
in helping her dreams come true.
Absolutely.
And you two rock stars together.
Talk to me a little bit about,
obviously we know a lot of it was remote,
but teaming up together, what was it like working together?
How was the friendship built?
How was the bond strengthened?
I literally haven't seen, I haven't seen you in years.
I know.
Is this the first reunion, the promotion?
I've never seen this many people in one space.
And like, I can't, I think ever.
No, I mean, it's really, I think it,
it's funny because when we were doing it,
and again, it was during the quarantine time,
and so to like have this place to go to work on something,
because I was like in a very isolated place,
and then see Garth on the other end of like the video,
I just felt it was such a, I don't know,
it just, it was a very, it was,
it like gave me light to the moment
of when I was sort of like, what is my,
we were all having these like identity crisis
during that time, and sort of like,
what am I doing now, and what's gonna happen,
and then to know, okay, like,
we're working on something that's gonna come out,
and like people are excited about it,
and like this will, like we'll move,
get through this time, and like it just was,
it really, I held on to those recording sessions
because it was, like I felt, you know,
I felt alive doing them, you know,
and now it's coming out at like a time
that seems like it's perfect
because everybody can actually get together.
Popping out like a dream, come out and play now, yeah.
Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
I wanna turn really quickly, big congrats to your kids.
Ivy Park, how proud are you of them?
So proud of them.
They're very proud of themselves.
They were just so excited to get to see Beyonce,
and meet her, and meet her kids and stuff.
Right?
It was a big day in our household.
Ivy, and that's what I wanted to ask,
I'm like, are we besties with Jamie now?
She's so nice, and the kids are so cute.
Yeah.
Like, all right, you have permanent fans.
Anytime she needs babysitters, she's got two.
There we go, and then you've got
the two little ones now, congratulations.
Are we Ivy Park strategizing?
Like, I think we just need like a holiday campaign.
Oh, wow, okay, yeah, baby collection.
Baby, yeah.
I love it, I wanna, anytime we can, like,
dress up the baby and, you know,
put him in some kind of embarrassing outfit
that they'll later, like, be angry about.
I'd like that.
Okay, got it.
I was supposed to talk, we say they're like,
exploitative, like, yeah, you got like an elf costume
that you can put them in, you know, 20 years later.
Like some reindeer.
Yeah, they're gonna be like, hi.
Also, if they're like, somehow partly naked, also great.
You're just like, and here's your butt,
with the reindeer antlers, like, awesome.
20 years later, it's gonna be exciting.
Break that out, the holiday party.
Make it happen, make it happen, I'm here for it.
Really quickly, we wanna do a quick fashion flashback.
Your first and your last red carpets, okay?
So, we have the most adorable Reese Witherspoon
I have ever seen in my life.
For a second, I thought that was me.
For real?
I was like, oh, we kinda look alike.
We have an equally adorable Scarlett Johansson.
Isn't that weird?
And I feel like that's the same type of look.
Yeah.
What do you remember about this time in your life?
I remember feeling awesome.
Yes, I remember, I was like,
I have to wear cowboy boots with this dress.
Naturally.
Why wouldn't you?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I was so excited to find lime green shoes
to match this lime green dress,
which I feel like everybody's now wearing again.
I know, this looks like something people wear now.
Everything is coming back full circle.
I'm still processing how I feel about that,
having been there for the first go around.
But, I mean, look, you're trendsetters,
so you can just dust it off and bust it out again.
That's what I say.
I wanna show you these two, your last carpet.
Sequins seem to be the mission.
Can we just get into it, please?
I mean, absolutely stunning here.
How much fun does it feel like to come,
to kill it in your careers,
and then be able to celebrate
when you hit these red carpets,
and just kind of toast to what you're accomplishing?
You know, it's so strange because it's been,
this red carpet event was like last week.
I'm also in my mind, I'm like,
how could she print out a picture that quick?
Like, that's her.
I'm still back in 1991 or whatever.
Printer thing, crazy.
No, I mean, again, I just,
I'm still like re-emerging into this,
you know, just coming out of this bubble,
and it's very, I have, I think,
a newfound appreciation for just, yeah,
having a night out and like seeing other adults
and, you know, celebrating.
That was the Kennedy Center Honors.
We saw like amazing, amazing artists that night.
It was so cool.
Yeah, it's just, it's very exciting.
I feel like I, you know,
I never knew I'd miss a red carpet.
I know, same.
I know it's fun again.
Yeah, I missed it a little bit.
I only, I miss just seeing my teens,
and then getting to wear those beautiful clothes.
It's such an honor to wear people's beautiful designs,
and it was so, so lovely to be out of the house.
Yeah, and just lastly, and really quickly,
back to Sing Too, you know,
I was talking with Garth a little bit
about the underlying themes of the film,
and he brought up grief as one of the main themes.
For you, what are you hoping that people understand
or walk away with when it comes to exploring
our own emotions after watching a show
that not just entertains us,
but really makes us feel, get to the heart of the matter?
I think collective experiences
and how important it is to have community
and collective joy.
We lost so much of that over the past couple of years.
Garth, what would you add?
I think, you know, this movie really,
you know, a lot of these characters, I think,
are overcoming their own insecurities,
and they find that, you know, strength in one another
and, like, their shared experience,
and similarly to what you're saying.
You know, just, it shows how important it is
to connect, like, in person with people
and talk about things,
and talk about what we're scared of
and feel vulnerable about,
and not just do it like this.
Yeah, that's great, absolutely.
Well, thank you both so much for your time,
and congratulations on the sequel.
Thank you.
Thank you, take care.
