What's up team welcome back it is your biggest fan of the real Casadero and we have brought the ship up to transmission depth yet
Again to broadcast our pirate signal team and we are here in the lab and we're gonna answer a question
cybersecurity or
computer science
It used to be this is my opinion not here to
Tell anybody what to do. This is my
Subject this is my subjective
Observation based on
Experience and just study of what is going on out here in the world team. It used to be that when we went off to school
well, there was a there was a for a period of time there was
Not every school had a computer science program and then eventually every school picked up a computer science program and this program typically contains
something along the lines of programming with the
difficulty of these programs
Varying from school to school
Now we have pressed further on into the information age and we have a multitude of different courses
I myself attend Western Governors University where I am studying for a
bachelor's degree in
cybersecurity and information assurance and I chose this particular degree because it has a lot of
certifications that are industry that are accepted in the IT industry and
Respected in the IT industry. These are
Quote unquote not easy certifications. It depends on your level of skill your level of dedication
Your mindset your level of positivity your ability to study allocate time all these different things team
but with that being said there are a
Different there's a lot of programs out there in and some have the question
Should I pursue computer science or I'm interested in cybersecurity or software engineering or software development?
But I believe that maybe I should take computer science first if you
Believe that you should take computer science first, then that is you only you can decide
there's no one who's gonna give you the best answer if you set your aim in the right direction and
You have looked at the landscape and you've determined that hey, there are positions out there
That I would like to do there's jobs out there that I would like to do
There is a need for a particular skill set in
society that I am interested in then
Go pursue that thing. Now. Do you need to know computer science to be in the cybersecurity field?
Yes, and no, you need to know about computers. You need to know about networks
you need to have an understanding of systems the concept behind systems and
The cybersecurity degree at least at WGU and other places that I've seen
They seem to give everything that anybody who's going to operate in that field is going to need
computer science is
more geared towards
software engineering and
Possibly mathematics depending on what program you're in and what school so
And also right so for WGU
The computer science degree doesn't have any certifications. So it is actually the fastest degree to complete
the problem is if there is a problem is that if you don't have any
Experience or any other credentials when you come out of the computer science degree program
you were just going to be another person with the computer science degree and
That's not good because you're gonna have to go out and get some certifications gonna have to get some experience somewhere
Some will be fortunate enough to find work
within their industry while they're studying or while they're in school and
That will add to their resume and so maybe they won't need any sort of follow-on degree
but if you're in cybersecurity, it is almost certain that when you go work for a company and
They hired you for some sort of cybersecurity purposes, they're gonna require some sort of certification
typically at the very least a security plus certification and that is
It certifies that you understand information security. So
Okay, you've gone through this degree plan. You've got your computer science degree. Now you're out there applying for work. You have no experience
Right. This is your first
Your first course right you you you're interested in programming and coding and all things technology and
You've gone down this road and this is the path you're gonna take now
You've come out of school and you're applying for work, but you have no experience and then you have no certifications
Eventually, you're gonna come to this
realization that
Okay, I need a certification now
You're looking around for what certifications to get when I believe personally you can alleviate all of this by just going directly into
The program that you are
Interested in that is the most difficult now a lot of people they're concerned with this because they're like, well, you know
What if I'm not smart enough? What if I can't finish and all these different things?
Well, you know that is completely up to you if you're interested in it
If you had the thought if you had the idea, it's a very good chance that it's maybe something that you should do
God forbid that you don't go down that road and then you have this regret later on cuz that's gonna stack up
That's gonna cause more stress and more anxiety and we don't want any of that stuff, man
We don't want any of that stuff. So if you're stuck between two things ask yourself, why am I interested in these two things?
which one is the hardest and
let the
Powers that be decide whether or not you're qualified I see this when people are applying for jobs
I see this when people are thinking about what school to go to or what program to take there
Well, I didn't apply because I don't think I know enough, you know, look that's not up to you
All you have to do is be honest be honest with yourself. What am I interested in?
What do I want to do if I could make my day? What would I make that day be like?
What would it look like?
What's my life gonna be like six months?
one year two years three years five years ten years and
Lay that out and if this fall if the thing that you're interested in falls in line with that then why not pursue it?
Yeah, you may fail. Yeah, you may fall down. That's life. That's the way it goes as long as you land on your back
You can look up and that means you can get up. That's a quote from Les Brown
So that's that's the path I would take I would go with
What's the hardest between these two? What's going to give me the most knowledge?
What's going to make me the most viable?
What is going to make me the most proud in the end and on that note team?
Thanks for hanging out with me here. I'm your biggest fan of the real Casadero. It is April 25th year 2022
This was your daily broadcast and I just wanted to come up bring the ship up to transmission depth and share my thought
Share my thoughts and philosophies and answer this question that we got on the channel
About computer science versus cyber security. It is my opinion. I'm not saying this is all the way correct
But unless you're gonna go off to some
Unless you're going to Harvard MIT Yale Stanford Princeton
Something like that if you were if you were interested in something other than computer science
That is related to the IT field and it's gonna offer you some certifications
I would go with that program because it will give you I believe it will give you a bigger bang
For your buck and if everybody doesn't in earnest if everybody sets out to learn this stuff and be good at it
And they're not just chasing the money and trying to check off some blocks and pretend that they know some stuff that they don't
Then the industry will continue to get better and better and better
Which will make you and everyone around you better at what they're doing and that's what we want team
We want to get out here. We want to stay safe. We want to chase excellence. We want to reach our full potential
