Hello there and welcome to Fairland Cottage. Thanks for joining me here today. I'm going to
share with you a few ways that you can simplify your home so that it is calming and clean and a
sanctuary where you can rejuvenate and relax. Let's get right into the video.
There is nothing like an uncluttered and clean home to keep things simple and the less clutter
that you have the easier it is to keep things tidy and it easier it is to actually clean around
everything. I like to keep the countertops clear of clutter. Again it just makes for my nice
peaceful environment and also much easier to clean. I live in a really old house with a lot
of dust and the more stuff I have out on countertops the more stuff that you have to dust
and it makes cleaning much easier and it takes much less time. Give everything a home it just
creates less clutter so pop things in little boxes or you can actually put things in the
drawer to get things away. It just gives a much uncluttered look to the house.
I try and do the cleaning as I go during the week. It just means that you've got a lot less
cleaning to do at the end of the week and it doesn't get overwhelming. It's much easier.
There is nothing simpler than getting fresh air into your home. Just for about 10 minutes open
all the windows, open all the doors wide and let the air come in and circulate all around.
You can also burn some sage at the same time and will get rid of any mugginess in your house
and the house will just the air will be all cleansed and it will feel so clean and rejuvenated
and fresh. I like to use as much natural materials as I can in the home. Wicker baskets are great for
storing things in. They look beautiful, they're natural and they're really durable. Don't have to
go out and buy expensive ornaments. These are pebbles from the beach in a glass bowl that I had
with a candle. Really simple. If you don't live near a beach just get some cones from the forest.
Here's some driftwood that is beautiful and is also acting as a light fixture with some LED lights.
If you have open plan home like I do, I find it really helpful to keep colors similar. It just
looks less cluttered to the eye. I like to choose neutral colors like browns and creams and beiges
and then add pops of colors in flowers and plants and pictures. There's something to the eye that
when the colors are similar the home just looks a lot less cluttered and a lot cleaner.
No need to go out buying expensive furniture. Most of the furniture in our house is second hand and
we just injected a new lease of life with a bit of sandpaper, a lick of paint, some reupholstering,
some varnishing. You'd be amazed what you can do for very little money and it's lovely to inject
your own personality into something and usually the quality is much better than a lot of modern
furniture is made with MDF which is just not going to last as long. And the furniture you do
have just look after it really well and it will serve you well and it will last you a really long
time and save you from constantly having to rebuy new furniture. So that is it for this week. Thank
you very much for watching and I really hope you've found some tips that you like. I'd love
