Welcome to my channel and welcome to my front door. It is fall. It is one of my
favorite times of the year, and I don't know about you, but I think the fall
front door, fall front door containers, is the best thing in the entire world. But
there's only one problem. I have to show you the state of my front door. It's
basically become my potting shed, my potting bench, potting shed. All my
materials are here for whatever reason. Did I use the backyard to pot up stuff?
No. I use my front stoop. I don't know why. I have bags of stuff. I have plants. I
have potting soil, moss, and of course, 4th of July decorations. So here we go.
Planter number one completely buried. Planter number two looks great except
it's surrounded by projects and more projects. Yes, this is my front door. Once
I find my beautiful planter, I'd like to get rid of all of that and then raise up
the height, probably still using those branches, and I will be using this, which
is currently in a hanging basket in front. Some little gardens from last
week's video. The smallest amount of soil left in a bag, really, and mums. This is
why I don't buy mums except for one every single year, because they look good
for about one minute. Let's just take a moment. This is what it used to look like.
I loved it so much, it was my screensaver since the 4th of July. My tiniest
concrete statuary. He's a little mouse. I know, very painful. They look so happy
right now. If it hurts, don't look. Are you ready to meet the inspiration for
fall? Giant ornamental cabbage, worth every bit of $15. Just a little tricky.
You have to kind of tilt it so it's draping, appears to be draping over the
planter, and then, of course, tuck it in with lots of soil around the root ball
and added an equally large ornamental kale. These two together, stunning. This
Alternanthera is the only plant in this container that will not survive the
winter. I will take it inside because it really can only handle down to maybe 40
degrees or so. The rest of these, the cabbage and the Dusty Miller, will do
great through the winter. I am in the Chicagoland area, so I am about a zone
5b currently. I am using the glittered branches once again. These are the dark
brown ones that I do get from the grocery store. I'm also using some
burnt orange reddish colored ones as well. I personally love using branches
all year long. Different kinds, different colors, and these add a lot of nice color
and a lot of height. And, of course, they're reusable. For my smaller container,
I'm trying out two cabbage, some ivy, both will last very nicely through winter all
the way to spring, and then also two heucheras. Kind of placing them in there
to see if I like them together, and then I will kind of tuck them in with some
soil. Can't forget about a couple tiny little white pumpkins. They look so cute
peeking out of there. Well, it is a new day. Hopefully I was able to get some
good footage last evening because I did add some candlelight with the battery
operated two lights. More of a sophisticated color palette with the
blues, dark purple. I don't know. I just really liked it out here, and it's
complete opposite of what it used to be. I wanted to go fewer plants, larger scale,
and then they're going to tie into other containers, which I have many more,
like a lot of containers around here that I will be planting up very soon.
Very excited for that. The wreath is nothing fancy. It's kind of like a
placeholder maybe right now. I'm not sure I'll leave it. It does tie the color
that I am kind of incorporating in here, like the dark orange that I have in both
of the planters. And then this throw, I was most excited about these two
containers. Love them. I do have a fun video coming up of really unusual things you can
add to a container. So there may be a couple little things I add, but I really
just did the throw for the accessories. I did a throw in a beautiful color that I
just fell in love with, and then a lantern, a little lantern that I also
scored both of those things from Savers, which I love Savers. And then, oh, another
another wire pumpkin from Savers. So I hope you enjoyed the video. I appreciate
you watching, and I will see you in the next couple weeks where I have some
super fun videos coming up for the beautiful fall season. And I'll see you
next week.
