Welcome back to another video my pupils, today, I will be teaching you the most unique tackling
technique out there, which is the slide tackle. It looks easy on the eye, but there's a lot of
hidden secrets in plain sight, which I will be teaching you for your mastery today.
Make sure to like, and subscribe, because this one is special.
The first aim is to cut distance between you and the ball. If you're not near enough,
there's no way on earth you'd be able to even think about doing a slide tackle,
so cut the distance. Now your main cue to execute the slide tackle is a heavy touch.
When you see that heavy touch that's your time to strike with a leaning posture towards the ball.
This lean helps with the slide on the ground, and makes the whole tackle quick and effective.
With eyes locked in on the ball, and leg bent for full extension,
this is the moment you must be brave and be focused on making contact with the ball before
the man. Now this is the reason why the lean that I mentioned before is important.
Now after the contact, the lean is the reason you go underneath and end up behind the opponent.
Without it you won't have enough momentum man the opponent could stamp on your leg.
Timing is crucial for a successful slide tackle. You need to assess the situation carefully,
ensuring that you can reach the ball cleanly, without fouling the opponent.
Approach the opponent from an angle, rather than directly from behind,
to reduce the risk of fouling. Your body should be slightly sideways to the opponent.
Make sure you're close enough to the opponent to reach the ball with your tackle,
but not so close that they can easily evade you. Start by lowering your center of gravity
and bending your knees slightly. This will give you better balance and control.
Extend one leg forward, keeping it slightly bent at the knee dot as you slide.
Use the foot of your extended leg to poke the ball away from the opponent.
Aim to make contact with the ball cleanly, without touching the opponent.
Keep your other leg bent and tucked beneath you to protect yourself and avoid injury.
Slide towards the ball with controlled momentum. Your slide should be smooth and controlled,
not reckless or overly aggressive. After making contact with the ball,
quickly recover to your feet to get back into position. Avoid staying on the ground too long,
as this can leave your team vulnerable to counterattacks.
Always prioritize safety when performing a slide tackle. Avoid making contact with the opponent's
legs or going in too aggressively, as this can lead to fouls or injuries.
Like any skill, mastering the slide tackle requires practice. Set up drills in training
sessions to work on your timing, technique, and decision-making.
Be aware of the rules regarding slide tackles in your league or competition. In some cases,
slide tackles are not allowed, or there may be specific guidelines regarding their execution.
