Carving - Simple Wizard - wood spirit

Right, this is a piece of basswood. You can get it from Ebay, Amazon or any sort of... a lot of hobby places have it as well. This is one inch by one inch by five inches long and that in metric is 12 and a half centimetres by two and a half centimetres by two and a half. What I like to do with these little figures is to cut the basswood across diagonally so you finish up with two pieces like that and it just makes well it makes the basswood go further and it's a nice easy job there's less material to have to cut away. If you haven't got the means to do that you can just do this the same carving from the square piece and either leave the back or even just continue the hat round and what have you around the back but for this carving we're going to use this. Right, I've drawn two lines on the piece. The first line is five centimetres and the second line is six and a half centimetres and that's two inches and two and a half inches and that's from the top which is from the top of the hat. Then we're going to go put a line and just curve it curve it down a sort of a bit of an elongated s shape. Same at this side that's that's his hat and then that's the bottom of the nose so his nose will come and if we if you use your finger against the pencil and draw a line there it's about a centimetre just over a quarter of an inch and turn it and use that same measurement and then we'll draw his nose on and keep and try to keep everything nice and symmetrical and that really is about all we need to draw so we can start carving. And there we have it a little wizard carved in basswood and it's an easy one to do but still it's a I think it's a nice looking interesting little wizard and with the with the beard and moustache swept to one side I think he's got a lot of character and just so that you know I don't pick the knife up and do it straight away like that there's there's a few that I've done to practice on.
