Max Verstappen: It was a clear penalty | Post Race Interview US GP 2024

We're probably going to make a video of your driving today to show to all young drivers of how to defend, because that was some fantastic defense from you today. Yeah, I had a lot of fun as well, but also fair play to Lando. I think both of us, you know, we did well, we were racing hard and it was actually a lot of fun to be honest. So I tried everything I could. I mean, we didn't have the pace today for whatever reason. This is something that we need to look at because, yeah, McLaren and Ferrari today were definitely faster. Is that going to be the difference, do you think, if you do manage to take one or both of these titles this season? Being able to drive that car when it's not at its best and really try and eke as much as you can out of it? Because we could hear you on the radio, it didn't sound like it was an easy drive at all. I mean, I always try to maximize when it's good or bad. You always have to try and do the best you can. And I think I've shown that over the past years that it's possible. This year, of course, for us, it's not the dominant years anymore and we've had a few difficult races. This weekend, I think we've shown some flashes of coming back to the front. Still not enough, but yeah, we keep working, keep improving, keep learning. And I think it was a valuable weekend in terms of learning. Just finally for me, there were several penalties given out today for similar maneuvers off track or gaining advantage. And you had your incident with Lando. It seems to be that you perhaps understand the regulation and exactly what you can do in those circumstances, maybe a little bit more than others. I mean, I've lost the podium here as well when I overtook Kimi on the inside of 17 or 16, you know. So it's just how it is. It's quite clear in the ruling, you can't overtake outside the white line. Yeah, there's not more to say. I mean, it's painful. But up until then, of course, we had a really good battle. Well done on podium three. Beautifully said from Max. He said that even I, when I drove here against Kimi Räikkönen, I overtook him from outside the line and then I got, you know, a penalty. It is what it is. It's painful, but it is what it is. Like, you cannot do nothing about it. Yeah, really, really awesome, awesome defense from Max. And that was like a masterclass of defending from Max Verstappen against Lando Norris. But yeah, they had really... I had fun also by watching them fight with each other and trying to fight for a position for P3 in particular. But on the other hand, Lando got penalized from a rookie mistake, let's say like that. It was a rookie mistake. He should have let Max pass and then fight in other curves, get another chance to get back that position. But he overpushed and then both of them went out of the track, but Max was in a better position. Nevertheless, I wish them all the best, both of the drivers.
