running one Marathon grueling so can you
imagine running seven races on seven
different continents in just seven days
sounds crazy but that is just what a man
from Grafton is going to do in just a
few weeks Bill Murphy who is one of just
60 participants who was selected to run
in the great world race if Bill Murphy
looks like a middle-aged mortgage broker
well that's because he is one he's also
a very determined marathon runner the
great world race is seven continents
seven marathons in seven days suffice it
to say this won't be like running in
worcesters Lake Park with his dog cisley
it's going to be challenging after
Marathon 1 or two you're going to be
tired you're going to start feeling
things your body is going to change you
know they even told us to bring an you
know uh one size up pair of shoes just
because of the swelling here is how the
great world race covers seven continents
in seven days it starts at wolves Fang
in Antarctica the next stop is Cape Town
in South Africa followed by per
Australia then there will be a
multi-loop course which will cover
Istanbul on its Asian and European sides
the runners will fly across the Atlantic
Ocean to cardia in South America then
it's off to North America and Miami the
final stop of the race I hope we raised
a lot of awareness I hope we've impacted
a lot of people to go out and do some
things for themselves you know whether
it's to push their own limits to do it
for greater good for Murphy that means
raising money for the make A- Wish
Foundation of Massachusetts and Rhode
Island it's a cause he supported for
years including running the Boston
Marathon on its behalf I'm just seeing
these kids with with you know critical
illnesses and you know what the magic of
a wish does for them and gives them hope
gives their family hope on what's to
come Murphy hopes to raise $50,000 for
make a wish and it's money they can use
just in this region 600 children are on
a waiting list for a wish and the
average cost to fulfill one is
$112,000 if I wasn't doing it for
charity I I probably wouldn't do it you
know it's just one of those things that
it's just the why the meaning the
purpose means more than than actually
doing this endeavor Murphy wrote a book
on overcoming adversity it's something
he'll be thinking about for the children
and for himself and there's a lot of um
world-class athletes that are actually
doing this and you know I don't consider
myself that I just I'm just going to
grind and put the work and just show up
and and do the best I
can pretty remarkable Katherine and I
were just talking about Mega marathoning
for us it would be 26 miles 2 over 26
days a mile a day mile a day I could do
that
