Assalamu Alaikum.
Welcome to the Graphic Design course.
My name is Rafay Anwar and I am your instructor.
Well, let me tell you a little bit about myself.
I have been working in the creative field for 25 years.
And if I tell you a little bit about my history, I have been very fond of drawing since childhood.
And I used to draw and make paintings.
And since childhood, I had an ability that I used to look at things and try to draw.
I used to copy as well.
But mostly, I used to try to observe what I have seen and start making it.
There could be two things in it.
Either I used to look at the thing lying in front of me or I used to start making it with my imagination.
So this journey continued.
I and the people around me realized that there is a designer and an artist hidden inside me.
And while looking at him, I thought why not I do my career in a creative field.
Well, I also thought a little bit that I should become an architect.
And in the same way, I started preparing myself that one day I will become an architect.
After completing my matriculation, I completed my FA from Government College on the basis of finance.
After that, I completed my degree from National College of Arts, also known as NCA, in 2003.
The name of that degree was Communication Design at that time.
And it was a bachelor's degree.
Nowadays, we can also call it Visual Communication Design and Graphic Design.
Well, let's take a look at my professional life.
Immediately after my matriculation, I worked in an illustration-based company for 11 years,
where greeting cards were made.
There, I experienced illustration, design, photography, videography, animation and packaging design.
After spending 11 years there, I went to a multimedia company.
And there, I started doing things related to web designing.
So, I also got some experience in web design.
After that, I was hired as a creative coordinator in a TV channel.
And I worked there for 5.5 years.
In that news channel also, I worked as a broadcast designer.
And it was a small change for me that my background was set in print design.
But, the point is that as a graphic designer, you have a lot of opportunities to deviate your path
and work in different domains.
So, a big challenge for me was that as a print designer,
I worked as a broadcast designer.
And there, I got an opportunity to do virtual design.
In which, we basically see that an anchor and a table are physical.
Rest of the environment is seen through graphics.
After that, I worked as a creative head in a furniture-based work.
In which, there were things related to furniture.
And there, I designed campaigns and photography.
After that, I joined a game design company.
In which, I worked as a game designer.
It was a very good opportunity for me that I could utilize all my skills there.
In game design, I got an opportunity to do illustration,
I got an opportunity to do character design,
I got an opportunity to do background design,
I got an opportunity to paint,
I got an opportunity to do animation,
I got an opportunity to do interface design,
which is also known as UI-UX.
After that, when I moved ahead,
I got an opportunity to associate with a tech company.
In which, I work as a UI-UX designer.
Along with that, I got an opportunity to teach a course in BNU
which is also known as Tools and Techniques.
And that was a flash course
in which I told them about basic animation techniques.
Apart from this, as an external examiner,
I used to go to different institutes.
And along with that,
in all my creative journeys,
I continued my freelance work.
Now, in the freelance world,
I had a lot of avenues to work.
You can understand, logo design,
branding, animation,
videography, documentaries,
photography, product photography,
everything.
Whatever creative field you can think of,
I got an opportunity to work in it.
Well trainees, as a graphic designer,
you can do a lot of jobs in the freelance world.
There are a lot of online platforms in the freelance world.
Like Upwork, Fiverr, 99designs
and a lot of similar platforms.
As a graphic designer,
when you gain experience,
you can do a lot of assignments and jobs there.
Like, you can do illustration,
graphic design,
photography,
photo manipulation,
and you can even create social media posts.
You can create static posts,
animated posts,
and you can even work for TV channels.
So, being a freelancer,
you can do a lot of things.
Well trainees, why should you become a graphic designer?
Well, the answer is simple.
Designers are problem solvers.
They have a problem and they try to solve it.
Like, a designer creates a small flyer
and designs a whole campaign.
It helps people to change their thinking.
How?
Like, you have created a flyer
and you are telling people about blood donation.
So, that campaign will drive people to donate.
Graphic designers are in high demand these days
and you can earn a lot of money on freelance platforms.
So, I hope this course will be very favorable for you
and you will learn a lot from it.
Thank you.
