I love learning.
I love learning about the body.
I love learning about how we can better take care of our bodies.
And I love learning how we can age gracefully and really
in good health.
So I just came back from a wonderful conference
in Phoenix, Arizona.
It was put on by the Alzheimer's Research and Prevention
Foundation, which I am a member of their yoga advisory council.
And I spent two days in the presence
of wonderful, talented professionals
who are doing so much research in this area of Alzheimer's
and dementia.
This has recently touched my family and my life
that I never thought it would.
So it has.
So I was a sponge in absorbing a lot of great things.
And I do want to share one thing with you in this video.
And I'm going to ask you to join me in this.
The ARPF, Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation,
funds research in this area of Alzheimer's prevention.
And they did a study with many older adults,
some exhibiting memory problems.
And they decided to create a program that
was doable for almost anybody.
And this one is really doable for almost anybody.
And it incorporates so many things
in this practice that stimulates your brain.
There's memory.
There's physical touching.
There's music.
There's rhythm.
There's a coordination aspect.
And there's concentration.
So all these things put together in 12 minutes time.
And if you do this 12-minute practice every single day,
you will find more clarity.
You will find less stress.
And you will improve your brain power.
And what's cool about this whole study
is that they actually did brain imaging.
So they had the images of the brain
before the meditation and after the meditation.
And of course, weeks and weeks after everyone
has done the meditation.
And it was astounding what the results were
that the front part of your brain, the part that
is involved in memory and concentration
and remembering things, of course, was imbibed.
It had more blood flow.
So just like your muscles, you've
got to work your muscles in order to get the blood flow
there and the muscle fibers to get strong,
same thing with your brain.
You know when you're taxing your brain, don't you?
You really do.
Something that's really hard to remember,
like you're trying to remember six things in a row,
you know how challenging that is, right?
So this practice does the same thing
in a beautiful, wonderful way.
And it's called the kirtan kriya.
This practice is now being done by people all over the world.
And more and more studies are finding out
that this is really a wonderful practice,
doable for most people, that will improve your memory.
So my challenge to you is this.
Will you join me in doing the kirtan kriya
for the next couple of months?
Right now it's October.
Doesn't matter when you're watching this video.
But for me, I'm going to do it every single day
in the morning through the end of the year.
I figure that's going to help me get through the holidays,
right, when things get a little bit crazy.
So whenever you're starting this challenge
or this journey with me, let's do it for a couple of months.
Let's just try it.
Why not?
Research is showing that it can really improve your memory.
And don't we all want to improve our memory as we get older?
We do.
So what we're going to do is for 12 minutes,
we're going to be doing a mudra with our hands.
So you have your hands open.
You're going to touch your thumb and your index finger,
and then your thumb and your middle finger,
thumb and the ring finger, thumb and the pinky, right?
So it's just that continual motion.
It's always in the same direction, right?
And when you're doing that, you're
going to be saying the words sa-ta-na-ma, sa-ta-na-ma.
So words, sounds, what they're doing
is actually, if you notice, when you say those words,
the tip of your tongue is touching different parts
of your upper palate in your mouth.
Yeah, and that stimulates different glands
and different parts of your, basically, anatomy.
And that helps to stimulate your brain.
Yeah, so all this stuff, I don't know all the ins and outs of it.
But guess what?
They've done the research, and they
have the studies to prove it.
And I figure I'm going to bring this into my practical living
and see if it works.
So there are a couple of ways that you
can access this practice.
You can go to the ARPF website and find it there.
You can go to my YouTube channel, Yoga Vista YouTube
channel, and you can find it there,
although there are some YouTube interruptions.
I'm sorry to say.
They put the ads in there.
I have no control.
The other place you can go to is yogavista.tv,
where we have it with no interruptions.
It's a 12-minute practice.
We actually have two different choices.
So you can have it with music, or you could just
have it with the sound of the words.
So let's just do this together.
What do you think?
Let's do it.
Thank you.
