12.
Judy Garland
Judy Garland was a remarkably versatile entertainer who garnered a multitude of
prestigious awards during her illustrious career, including a Golden Globe Award,
a special Tony Award, and an Academy Juvenile Award.
Most famously recognized for her iconic portrayal of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz,
as well as her unforgettable rendition of Over the Rainbow,
Garland's extraordinary talent propelled her to stardom at a young age.
Yet the intense pressures of fame took their toll, leading her to grapple with
her self-image, an aspect that was perhaps reflected in the old Hollywood
star's food choices.
When it was time for Judy Garland to dine, she had a penchant for a
distinctively crunchy salad.
Endearingly dubbed the Over the Rainbow Salad, this delightful dish was
originally crafted by Garland's mother and later showcased in the 1939 cookbook
What Actors Eat When They Eat.
The recipe features a vibrant medley of ingredients, including tender lettuce
hearts, grated carrots, sliced tomatoes, seeded olives, cooked green peas, crunchy
celery, and chopped endive.
To elevate the salad's flavors, the dressing combines olive oil, vinegar,
salt, sugar, paprika, and minced fresh garlic for a perfect finishing touch.

made with fresh tomatoes, garlic, basil, and olive oil.

Instead, she opted for something classic and fresh, and full of flavor, much
like her own timeless charm.
This next star's appetite was just as big as their talent.
14.
John Wayne
Few actors epitomized the idealized American values of the 20th century as
vividly as John Wayne.
Whether he was battling enemy soldiers or galloping through the Old West, Wayne
personified the archetype of the strong, silent hero, steadfast in his personal
beliefs.
With a remarkable career spanning more than 50 years and over 175 films, he
exemplified dedication and authenticity, qualities he even carried into his diet.
Wayne was an ordinary man with a passion for good food and grilling.
His love for grilling was so profound that in 2015, his family collaborated to
publish The Official John Wayne Way to Grill, an official cookbook featuring
over a hundred of his favorite recipes.
Among the diverse array of dishes he enjoyed preparing, steak was his standout
choice, and he preferred it cooked rare.

like cheesy grits, baked cornbread, and Tex-Mex favorites.

relleno souffle and tequila-infused curritas, alongside his signature dish,
the John Wayne casserole.
Next up on the list, we're diving in the tastes of an equally beloved America
movie legend, 15, Bette Davis.
Bette Davis remains an enduring icon of old-school Hollywood, celebrated for her
bold, larger-than-life persona and her refusal to conform to traditional norms.
Throughout her career, she appeared in nearly a hundred films, cementing her
reputation as one of the era's most unconventional leading ladies.
Unlike many of her peers, Davis was not afraid to take on complex and often
unsympathetic roles, which allowed her to shine across a wide range of genres.
Yet despite her defiance of Hollywood's expectations, Davis also found comfort
in a more domestic role, in the kitchen.
One of her favorite dishes to prepare was red flannel hash, a simple yet hearty meal.
The recipe called for corned beef, boiled potatoes, and cooked beets.
Unlike the traditional pressed-down version of corned beef hash, Davis preferred to
stir and evenly spread the mixture, ensuring it maintained its rustic charm.
She also took care to finely chop the ingredients, ensuring they cooked evenly.
Davis' culinary talents didn't stop there.
She had several other beloved recipes, such as her spinach-stuffed fillets.
This dish involved spreading cooked spinach over fillets of sole or flounder,
tightly rolling them up, and baking them in a shallow dish.
Another favorite was her Boston baked beans, a savory recipe that combined a
quart of pea beans with salt pork, molasses, dry mustard, and boiling water for a
classic New England flavor.
For our next entry, we're crossing over from the silver screen to the concert stage.
16. Robert Plant
You can't really talk about the 70s without discussing one of the biggest bands of that
era in the unparalleled rock stars that was Led Zeppelin.
And in their crew of 80s rock superstars, one star shone brighter than all the others,
and that was the star of its lead singer and lyricist, Robert Plant.
Decades after the peak of his career, Robert Plant is still seen by many as one of the
greatest singers in rock music, and for good reason.
His eccentric lyrics, flamboyant persona, intense stage performances, and insane vocal
range created the archetype of the modern rock star, and set a standard many still
struggle to reach today.
When it came to what the rock megastar loved to eat, it's hard to pin down just one
treat because the music legend was, and still is, quite the foodie.
But if we were to stick with a choice, the best option would be the Robert Plant Sandwich,
which was named after him because that was all he would eat back when he was recording
with Led Zeppelin.
It's a meatless dish, and a pretty easy one to make at that.
All you need is two slices of bread, some drained tuna, a few tablespoons of mayonnaise,
some finely chopped yellow onion, a pinch of red chili pepper, and some sliced fresh
chilies to top it all off.
Then, in a mixing bowl, mix the drained tuna, mayonnaise, chopped yellow onion, and finely
chopped red chili pepper till you're sure all the ingredients are properly combined.
Then give the tuna mixture a taste and season with salt and pepper.
When the mix is ready, take a slice of bread and spread a generous amount of the spicy
tuna mixture on it.
If you can handle it, add an extra dash of sliced fresh chilies on top of the tuna for
an extra kick of heat.
Put the second slice of bread on top of it to complete the sandwich, and you're done.
Time for you to chow down on the favorite snack of one of the biggest legends from the
golden era of rock.
Talking about rock superstars, this list's next celeb has a pretty simple palate, even
for those times.
17.
David Bowie
The 70s had some genre-defining stars, and David Bowie was very much top of list.
David Robert Jones, stage name David Bowie, was an English music legend regarded by many
as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.
More than just being one of the best-selling artists, Bowie was highly regarded by critics
and fellow artists alike.
He was an artist renowned for his constant reinvention and his unconventional aesthetics,
a lot of which would go on to have a major impact on popular music.
But it seems all the weirdness from his musical works didn't spill over into his taste for
food because his favorite dish of all time was pretty simple and wholesome.
Shepherd's Pie was his go-to dish, a meal he loved so much that his wife Iman made it
for him pretty regularly.
The dish was so iconically linked with Bowie that when his record label, Sony, opened a
Bowie-themed cafe to promote his 2013 album, The Next Day, the main attraction was Shepherd's
Pie made with mashed potatoes, chili beans, and, of course, plenty of cheese.
So how do you make a solid plate of David Bowie's favorite dish?
Start by sautéing some chopped onions and then adding some ground beef, parsley, thyme,
rosemary in the mix, along with some salt and pepper, of course.
After that, just leave the meat mixture to brown and then add in some minced garlic and
Worcestershire sauce.
After this, add in some flour, tomato paste, beef broth, frozen peas, frozen corn kernels,
and leave everything to simmer until it gets thick.
Next, boil some potatoes, add in some butter, parmesan cheese, some seasoning, and mash
together the mix.
Finally, pour the meat mixture into a casserole dish and top it off with the mashed potatoes,
then bake it till the meat is bubbly and the potatoes are a golden shade of brown.
It's a pretty simple dish, but that doesn't take anything from its amazing taste.
Talking about great taste, our next old-timey superstar took elite palates to the next level.
18. Elton John
Elton John was a superstar's superstar.
His influence on the music industry couldn't be overstated.
One of the best-selling and most acclaimed artists of all time, a lot of his discography
continues to be relevant today, especially his 70s classic.
If you know anything about the 70s and the 80s, then you definitely know just how respected
and beloved he was, and still is.
So it's only fitting that his favorite dish is something fitting of his status as industry
royalty, risotto.
The creamy, tasty dish is an incredibly luxurious dish, while still being something you can
pull off with minimal effort.
Elton John is so obsessed with his favorite dish that even sent his personal chef to Italy
to take cooking lessons from Chef Luciano Parolari, also known as the King of Risotto.
If you're looking to whip up a plate of risotto that would make even Elton John proud,
here's how you go about it.
Add some chicken stock to a saucepan and leave the liquid to boil.
After that, transfer some of the stock to a small bowl, add in a pinch of saffron to
it, and set it aside.
On another saucepan, add a few tablespoons of butter and leave it to melt, after which
you add some finely chopped white onion, and stir the whole thing and saute it for
two minutes.
After that, add in some garlic and leave it to soften for about a minute.
Now you can add in some risotto rice in the saucepan for a few minutes to let it brown.
When the rice is ready, pour in some white wine and stir the entire mixture to let it
incorporate, then leave the mixture in the saucepan to mostly reduce.
Once the liquid is reduced, add some of the warm stock from the previous saucepan, the
whole bowl of your saffron infused stock and season it to taste.
After that, gently stir the mixture until the rice fully absorbs the mixture.
Continue to slowly add the warm stock in the mixture, stirring it in each time until the
rice fully absorbs the mixture.
Once all stock has been added and fully absorbed, risotto should be golden and creamy with tender
rice.
Take the saucepan off fire and add in some butter and grated parmesan cheese into the
mixture and leave it to melt.
Taste risotto and adjust salt and pepper to your taste.
Top it off with some extra parmesan cheese and it's ready to serve.
Sure, some risotto was pretty nice to have, but nothing really does it at the end of the
day like a hearty, homely dish.
Our next celebrity understood that.
19.
Ozzy Osbourne
Our next act is the king of 70s edge, Ozzy Osbourne Dot.
The British music legend was frequently in the spotlight for his wild antics, like the
time he ate a bat on stage.
He had his world in his palms in the 70s as the lead singer of the heavy metal band Black
Sabbath, a time in which he adopted the very fitting nickname Prince of Darkness.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees many decades of relevance and incredible success
have earned him the nickname of the Godfather of Metal.
But beyond the occasional exotic animal, one of Ozzy Osbourne's favorite dishes is chicken
lasagna, although he's also been said to be a huge fan of cottage cheese.
So how do you make chicken lasagna the Ozzy Osbourne way?
Here's what you need.
Lasagna noodles, boneless chicken breasts, shredded mozzarella cheese, cream cheese,
chicken bouillon, and of course a jar of spaghetti sauce.
When you have that down, cook the lasagna noodles in hot water for about eight minutes,
drain it, and set it aside.
Place the chicken breasts in a saucepan and leave it to boil for about 20 minutes.
After that, remove it from the saucepan and shred it to pieces.
Then combine the shredded chicken, mozzarella cheese, and cream cheese in a large bowl.
Then mix in some hot water and bouillon, pour it over the chicken mixture, and stir it until
combined thoroughly.
Spread some spaghetti sauce at the bottom of the baking dish.
Cover it with half of the chicken mixture and top it off with three lasagna noodles
and repeat this in layers.
Finally, top everything off with some sauce and sprinkle some cheese on it.
Bake it for about 45 minutes and it's ready to dig into.
Our next celebrity couldn't have been any more different than the magnet for controversy that
Ozzy Osbourne was, but one thing they had in common was their love for homey, hearty dishes.
You can't really talk about movies in the 70s and 80s without talking about the bombshell beauty
that was Farrah Fawcett.
If you were around back then, you most likely know the highly nominated and widely adored
actress, a four-time Primetime Emmy Award nominee and six-time Golden Globe Award nominee
from her breakout in the first season of the hit series, Charlie's Angels.
When it came to the food that was dear to her heart,
Farrah loved making two of her favorite pies, pecan pie and coconut cream pie at holiday time.
According to her, it was a holiday tradition for them to bake both treats.
And while it was close, you could say the treat that took the number one spot
was coconut cream pie.
Here's how you made it.
First, you got some eggs, whole milk, granulated sugar, cornstarch, coconut milk,
and some sweetened flaked coconut.
When you have that down, whisk your eggs and then whisk them in whole milk till they mix thoroughly.
In a different bowl, whisk the sugar and cornstarch together.
Whisk the coconut milk into the mix, then whisk the egg and milk mixture into the coconut mixture
until the combined mixture is perfectly smooth and there are no lumps.
Place the frozen pie crust on the bottom rack of the preheated oven and carefully add the
combined coconut mixture on it.
And finally, top it off with some flaked coconut.
Finally, bake everything for 30 minutes.
Then move the pie to the top rack of the oven and top with some more flaked coconut.
Then continue baking it for an additional 30 minutes until the pie sets and the coconut
flakes turn golden brown.
Carefully remove the pie from the oven, let it cool, and it's ready for you to take a bite.
And there you have it.
