food is one of our favorite parts of
travel and just in life in general there
is no better way to get an introduction
to a new country than by trying some of
its most iconic eats while we tried a
couple Peruvian dishes in our last video
we have made a list of around 14 more
items that we still want to try ranging
from traditional dishes to quick snacks
and drinks plus an item a bit out of our
comfort zone beef hearts and over the
next couple days we're going on the
ultimate Peruvian food tour in Lima
which lucky for us is said to be one of
the best food cities in Latin

America for our first stop we're at
labodega Verde which is a super cute
Cafe with a beautiful plant-filled
Courtyard and we're here specifically to
try lukuma this is a fruit grown in the
Andes that has a green exterior and
orange starchy flesh when we went to
Blue gelateria the other day they showed
us the fruit and we tried to sample of
their lukuma gelato and this morning
we're going to try it in smoothie form
it looks so milky and smooth and buttery
the color is so pretty too
mhm oh man so good I don't know how to
describe the lukuma it's like kind of
citrusy it almost tastes like caramel to
me it's decadent so
decadent when we saw the inside of the
fruit at the gelateria you could see it
looked all really like starchy like a
potato and I can almost kind of taste or
feel that texture that starchy kind of
gritty texture in it I see why this
fruit is so loved here in Peru cuz this
might be one of my new favorite fruits I
really like it I know I want another one
I'm so glad we didn't share we
contemplated just getting one that would
have been a bad call yeah I'm like
really slurping this down oh my gosh
you're like over halfway oh no save it
save her
[Music]
it I made a friend man the cats in Peru
are just so sweet
hi mine's really curling up it's it's
getting gumpy

quite possibly the most famous dish here
in Peru is ceviche which is raw fish
that is marinated in lime juice with
onion chili pepper and salt in fact it's
the country's national dish you can try
cevich all over Lima but we came to to
Alto Pez which is a tiny spot that has
become very popular due to Netflix and
we ordered their Ceviche de piscato plus
their combinado which comes with ciche
mixto Aros Mariscos and chichon de first
ever bite of Ceviche so limey and fresh
and cool oh man so much flavor in there
the fish is like butter it is so soft
the first thing I noticed when this came
out is that the corn is huge oh my gosh
it's like three times the size of normal
corn oh
wow wow the only thing I've ever had
similar to this is pokey and so I kind
of expected it to be like that but this
feels even more tender like Adam said
the the fish just kind of melts in your
mouth and it is so limey and
tangy I wasn't sure if I like
saiche I think I love saiche this is
delicious
it's also not fishy tasting at all it
has such a mild flavor and so you really
just get the flavor of the lime juice
and all of the goodies that are in it
I'm pretty sure I've had fried calamari
before this is
squid light and crispy on the
batter I feel like times before I've had
calamari kind of chewy again this is
like so tender I've never had squid
before m
it's actually really good I didn't think
I'd be eating any of these but that's
really good our pallet is expanding I
love

it before we continue eating our way
through Lima we want to give a huge
thank you to AO for sponsoring today's
video when traveling internationally it
is super important for us to stay
connected not only so we can keep in
contact with family but also so we can
easily navigate unfamiliar areas request
transportation to get around town read
reviews of restaurants and coffee shops
and have easy access to important emails
for our trip for years we either wasted
time chasing Wi-Fi paid expensive
international fees with our Us sales
service provider or bought a physical
SIM card but over the last few years
we've switched to using eims from AO and
it has been a huge game Cher AO is the
world's first eim store with affordable
eims from over 200 countries and regions
to choose from if you're unsure what an
eim is it's a 100% % digital SIM card
that's embedded into your phone so
unlike a physical SIM card which is Tiny
you do not have to worry about losing it
it's super easy to set up in advance so
as soon as you land in a new country
you'll instantly connect to a local sell
service provider plus you'll get to keep
your existing phone number and while we
think AO is already a great affordable
option they are currently offering our
viewers $3 off your first eim if you
click the link in the description and
use our code ak3 our favorite thing
about AO is that you not not only can
get an eim for one country like Peru but
you can choose packages for multiple
countries which made it super easy for
us to have a reliable sell service
during our trip to Europe last winter
where we hopped between multiple
countries sometimes within the same day
if you'd like to try AO on your next
International Adventure head to this
link or scan the QR code on the screen
and don't forget to use our code ak3 so
you can get $3 off your first eim all
right now back to the food tour my tummy
is rumbling
[Music]
so we're wandering around Marcato numero
doio which is a market that has meat
fruits vegetables nuts snacks clothing
and so much more someone just gave me a
flower from their shop as a gift
everyone's very very nice here we love
going to local markets when we travel
and I can confident say that we are the
only tourist in here right
[Music]
now so this is a cherry Moya very
popular fruit here in Peru and I asked
him how to eat it and he just gave me a
knife so we're just going to ooh it
looks very soft yeah it is kind of
soft oh nice I did read that the seeds
are sometimes used to make like
insecticides so we don't want to eat the
seeds you just want to eat the fleshy
part oh that is so good it's like kind
of sweet and creamy and I don't know
I've never had a fruit that like tastes
like that it's interesting it's so good
it's kind of like tropical
tasting it almost tastes kind of like
medicine to me really a little bit but
not in a bad way tropical medicine
[Applause]
[Music]
yeah one of the most popular drinks in
Peru is the Pisco Sour which is a
cocktail made of PCO egg whites and lime
but since we don't drink we're going to
try another Super popular drink an Inca
Cola and we've actually had this a
couple years ago at the World of
Coca-Cola in Atlanta but it's been a
while now and we don't remember what it
tastes like we do remember it tasting
good but it's very very yellow yeah I
can smell it from
here now this kind of tastes like a
little bum bubble gummy kind
of yeah it tastes like bubble gum so
trippy because it's bright yellow so you
think that it would smell or taste like
lemon and then you sniff it and it
tastes straight up like bubble gum like
the pink bubble gum
it doesn't taste as it tastes different
than it smells to me it tastes just kind
of sweet a little tropical it kind of
has like a similar flavor to the Cherry
MOA that we just tried also we're
drinking this on the rooftop of our
hotel we're staying at the Fairfield Mir
Flores which has been a great spot and
they have this amazing just Rooftop Bar
hangout area at the top of the hotel
with an awesome view of the city
[Music]
tonight we're eating at isolina in
baranco which is a beautiful restaurant
that serves lots of traditional Peruvian
foods to be honest you could probably
try most of the foods that we're having
in this video at just this one
restaurant but we decided to try just
four here we're starting with two potato
dishes potatoes are a huge part of
Peruvian cuisine the Inca were the first
to cultivate potatoes around 8,000 BC to
5,000 BC and now Peru has more than
4,000 varieties of native potatoes one
popular potato based dish is CA liia
this is layers of mashed potatoes
seasoned with lime and AI a Peruvian
chili that is a staple in so many dishes
plus a layer of avocado and a mixture of
meat and manise with hardboiled egg on
top all right on First Impressions it
looks like a dessert it looks like a
beautifully done cake with nice like
frosting over the top but it's not I'm
really getting a hint of that lime and
that AI so look look at the potatoes
they look just yellow like they wouldn't
have much flavor but this actually has
way more flavor than I expected it's
really good and just basically just
creamy like all the textures in here are
just creamy interesting that it's cold
one thing that's surprising me about
this dish is that despite having heavier
ingredients potatoes and mayonnaise and
avocado it just tastes so light and
fresh and this is Papa Rena which is
mashed potato that is stuffed with a mix
of seasoned beef raisins olives and
hard-boiled eggs and then fried to give
it a crispy exterior when they first
brought this out I thought they just
gave me a loaf of bread that's exactly
what it looked like the only thing I'm
not excited for in here are these guys
the olives we can get out of
here there's another one I've tried I
just can't get into them all
right oh man that is like really hearty
and Meaty that is a very comforting dish
it's almost a little sweet because this
is so hearty and Rich I think the
perfect addition is this salsa creola
which is like an onion salsa it adds
that perfect amount of brightness and
freshness to it and next up we have Lomo
salato which is probably the second most
popular dish or most well-known dish
here in Peru after saiche it is beef
that is stir fried in a soy sauce and AI
based sauce and served on a bed of
french fries with onions and tomatoes
it's kind of a hybrid of Latin American
and Asian flavors which is something
that we'll be exploring a bit more
tomorrow and I this is the dish I've
been most excited to try here I don't
know if I've ever had it before I'm sure
I've had it somewhere in the US but this
is going to be the real
[Music]
deal that is
delicious steak and french fries are
probably two of my favorite foods so I
don't know how you could go wrong with
this dish but the sauce is so flavorful
the steak is nice and tender the
potatoes still have a little bit of a
crisp even though they're kind of like
soaking in the sauce oh my goodness you
put steak on in anything and I'm
completely
[Music]
sold the mixture of like the grill
flavor and the sauce is so good together
just lived up to my dreams and last but
not least we have ai de gayen this is a
Peruvian chicken stew with a creamy AI
based pepper sauce and served with
hard-boiled eggs on top it's kind of
hard to describe some of this stuff I
can taste a little bit of the pepper in
there but it's also just and like I this
is also a theme but like it just tastes
very creamy and thick and like Smooth
Adam was saying that he kind of thought
it tasted like concentrated chicken soup
and that's kind of the best way I can
describe it I think it's like they took
the cream of chicken in a can and like
that's what it is with a bunch of
chicken I don't think that's actually
what they did no I don't think that's
what they did but it seems like know
what it tastes
[Music]
like and now for the food we are most
nervous to try ATI cucho's Decor Zone
which are marinated and grilled beef
Hearts we've never had the best luck
with organ meat and by best luck we mean
we've never really liked it but I've
heard these are delicious and they
actually look pretty good it kind of
just looks like steak slightly different
but mostly just like steak so I'm going
to tell myself it's just steak all right
that is what a beef heart looks like it
really does it kind of just looks like a
leaner
steak it smells
delicious can't believe I'm eating heart
right now it's really good it's kind of
just like a chewier piece of steak but I
don't mean chewy in a bad way it's not
when steak is the bad chewy it just has
a slightly different texture to it
mentally a little hard but pretty solid
if you didn't tell me I wouldn't
know it's not
yeah fmer is maybe the better word it's
just kind of I don't know it's more
meaty almost yeah but it's really good
especially the grill flavor on there the
marinade is the marinade and that Grill
flavor you get you smell all the smoke
we also got a liter of chicha Mara which
is one of the drinks I've been most
excited to try here and it is made out
of purple corn and it has a bunch of
spices in
it ooh
oh someone told me they thought it
tasted like Christmas or the holidays
and I could totally see that oh yeah you
just want to chug that man it doesn't
taste corny but you do get a little bit
of the spices in there it almost tastes
like like a more tame like cranberry
juice or like grape juice or
something kind of reminds me of all of
the Kinder punches we had at the
Christmas markets in Europe that's what
I was going to
say that is so good
[Music]
besides traditional Peruvian food which
is called Creo another Cuisine that you
must try here in Peru is chfa which is a
fusion of Chinese and Peruvian flavors
this dates back to the 19th century when
Chinese immigrants arrived in Peru and
on our walking tour in our last video
our guide said that many people come to
Peru and they say I don't want Chinese
food I want Peruvian food but he said no
chfa Is Peruvian food and while you can
find chfa places all over town we
decided to get our first taste of chfa
to come to a spot called Titi so this
place has a massive menu it's kind of
like the Cheesecake Factory or a
dictionary so it was very hard to choose
what to get but we got three of their
dishes that we heard were some of their
best and we're starting with the won
soup so from what I can see in here
there's delicious looking slices of pork
there's the wons in here it looks like
there's some pieces of chicken some
green onions and then it has a clear
broth
and it smells so good I like their
dishes too they're very decorative and
then there's like a little very nice
place yeah a little Quil leg in there
too and like a leg of a oh wow
[Music]
something I just got a little bit of
that broth but it is so
good oh it's nice and salty and savory
it's a good like stock stocky broth
these wons are
massive M that was much more graceful
than
me it looks so simple cuz it has a clear
broth and you don't see evidence of a
ton of spices or herbs or anything but
it just has such a deep and rich flavor
oh my gosh that pork is perfectly fatty
oh melts in your
mouth wa
oh that smells so good we also ordered
the chaa Especial this is one of the
more classic chfa dishes it's fried rice
with pork FRS and
chicken that is some really good fried
rice out are the two dishes we've tried
so far I don't know what's Peruvian
about any of it but it is just super
high quality very tasty very flavorful
and just really good Chinese
food and last but not least we have the
garlic duck so I had read a lot of
reviews that the duck here was
phenomenal and there's this one specific
duck dish that everyone seems to get and
we're really just like fumbling our way
through Spanish while here and we
ordered the wrong one but it smells
incredible and when it arrived it was
just sizzling and
popping oh my gosh it's garlicky it's a
little sweet it's Savory and it honestly
just kind of tastes like chicken thighs
to me and when you get a little piece of
the skin
[Music]
M oh
baby oh my gosh the bees love this oh my
God getting attacked by we got to eat
them before the bees get us oh my gosh
oh no one just fell in the sauce gross
this is a disaster the be are attacking
us they are all over the picaron yeah
they're like on them they're on me oh I
hate these I don't know what to do oh
this is so
scary uh this turned out to be much more
stressful than we thought it would be so
we're back at Kennedy Park which we went
to in our last video which is famous for
its cats but it also has some stalls
that serve a variety of treats including
Pik rones oh my gosh there's like nine
be on them right now so these are
basically donuts made out of squash and
sweet potato and then they have this
sweet sauce called chanaka I think ped
on it which is what the bees are loving
right
now I hate bees so much this is honestly
my worst nightmare this is the food I
was probably this I can't even talk I'm
so stressed out right now this is the
treat I was most excited for but now I'm
terrified of it I read a review that the
bees were bad and I thought they were
just exaggerating but they were
not okay
quick quick oh my God oh my God I think
it would have been better to try these
in a restaurant without
bees M they're really good
though very very
sticky but chewy in the middle the sauce
is nice and sweet but the doughnut
itself isn't overly sweet between the
very exhilarating car ride to get here
and this I think my heart rate is just
like through the roof right now I'll
give you a safe
one m M those are so good just like
chewy and crunchy on the outside I want
more of the chanaka but I'll probably
scoop up a bee with it this one oh that
one's dripping this one is dripping in
the
juices M this soft takes it to the next
level so tip to eating these if you come
to eat them at the park just put the
peones on the ground let the bees just
hang out on it and then when you're
ready to grab one just kind of shake it
a little let them fly off and grab it
real quick they aren't bothering us as
much and you get a Dance Workout it's
like a Zumba yeah this is like like a
Zumba class oh my gosh
[Music]
oh be careful it's all over your fingers
they're going to come get you
[Music]
we found another goodie in the park and
it seems like the bees don't like this
one so we can eat it in peace but this
is masamura it is a purple corn pudding
that is spiced and then thickened with
starch and while you can eat it by
itself you can also eat it with a rose
con leche and then it's topped with
cinnamon there's some condensed milk and
then some shredded coconut and I
actually already tried this but uh
someone wasn't recording
so instead I'm going to have Adam try it
so you can see a true first impression
so this is served warm and it looks a
lot kind of like
oatmeal with like a jam on
top M it's way better than oatmeal
though it really is yeah it's nice and
sweet and spicy and this mazam Morris I
mean it tastes just
like the chicha mara but in jello like a
gelatin or pudding form man I really
like this did you get one for you
this is for
me I used to eat rice pudding a lot
Growing
Up So this just feels right at
[Music]
home we have one more food we want to
try we got to work up an
appetite looking good
[Music]
okay I'm going to fill that
[Music]
tomorrow are you ready to eat now uh not
really but I will do what I got to do
you just might have to roll me back to
the hotel
[Music]
for our final stop we came to Primos for
some poo alabrasa which is Peruvian
roasted chicken oh
baby that's some good chicken I don't
think I've ever
seen a chicken so juicy and tender it's
almost like it's like underdone but it's
not it's like perfectly done has a
delicious seasoning on the outside nice
and
salty also came with this yellow sauce I
think it's
AI pepper
sauce hopefully it's not super hot cuz
it's a good amount that's probably spicy
uhoh told you it's
spicy I instantly felt like my sinus is
open the flavor of the sauce is really
good but in small small small doses
there are of course many more delicious
foods to try here in Peru but that's all
we can fit in our bellies for now but
thankfully we still have 3 and a half
more weeks here and tomorrow tomorrow we
are heading to Cusco for some Epic
Adventures and of course more food
including a food that we are scared to
try yeah little little bit
[Music]
