Golden Retrievers are one of the most gentle dogs. Aggression is extremely rare in this breed.
Parents often misunderstand common behaviors like puppy biting and growling as aggression.
So, today in this video, we will look into some early signs of aggression in Golden Retrievers.
Number 1. Resource Guarding
This is one of the most common behavioral problems among Golden Retrievers.
Resource guarding is when a Golden Retriever displays aggressive behavior, like growling
or biting, with an intent to keep someone away from a resource he is trying to protect.
It could be a toy or even his food.
Number 2. Biting
It is perfectly normal for young puppies to bite or nip their owners.
But if this behavior continues into their adulthood, then it is a sign for concern.
Number 3. Growling
Growling while playing tug is fine.
But if your Golden Retriever growls at strangers or other dogs,
then this is something you should be worried about.
Growling at others is an early sign of aggression.
Number 4. Barking at Others
Golden Retrievers are one of the least vocal dogs.
They do bark, but their barks are far softer than other dogs.
So, if your Goldie barks at strangers or other dogs, then it is a sign of concern,
and you should teach him the correct way to interact with strangers.
Number 5. Humping on People
Humping is natural, and it's fine if your Goldie humps on a pillow or a soft toy.
But what's not okay is when your dog starts humping on people.
There's a risk of them biting out of excitement while humping.
If your dog does this, gently redirect his humping to a pillow or a soft toy.
Number 6. Pulling on the Leash
Pulling on a leash is another common problem.
While this isn't aggression, it can put you or your dog in trouble if they manage to get out
Number 7. Lunging at Strangers
Golden Retrievers can get excited when they see new faces, and may even lunge on them.
While your dog may not have the intention to be aggressive, this can hurt the other person.
Number 8. Being Protective of Their Owners
Golden Retrievers are affectionate and loving dogs,
but sometimes they may become protective of their owners.
While it may seem cute, this is not something you should promote.
Protective nature is an early sign of aggression.
You must teach your Goldie that sharing is caring.
If your Golden Retriever has any of the above behavioral problems,
then you must positively correct them before it's too late.
And if you can't, then do not shy away from taking help from a professional dog trainer.
