Hey skaters, it's Stace here from Next Step Tutorials and this lesson today we're going
to be looking at elements from adult learn to skate. Now before we have a look at these elements
I want you to click on the link below for your free pdf guide on the 90-day hassle-free skating
plan. This is just going to go over everything from finding your local rink to skating equipment
to enrolling and learn to skate to finding a private coach. Now this is really going to help
you out if you want to take on skating as a full-time hobby. It's things that I really
wish I knew as a skater so give it a click. Now in this lesson today we are going to be looking
at adult level four through six. If you are wondering, hey where are those adult levels one
through three? They are right up here so give it a click. Now let's jump into these levels four
through six. Now our first element in adult four level is the forward outside edges on a circle
and we've already learned how to do pumps so let's use some pumps to get some speed.
Now I'm going to go counterclockwise first so we're going to use we're going to open up towards
our circle we're going to use some pumps to get some speed and then I'm going to draw that right
leg up and hold one two three and then foot down again and then a couple more pumps and then draw
the foot up and down. Now let's go the other way. So arms into the circle let's do some pumps for
speed. Now I draw that left leg up and I'm holding and I'm trying to get all my weight
over that right leg and these are your forward outside edges on your left and right leg. Now
our second element that we have is forward inside edges on a circle. Let's use some pumps to get
some speed so we're going to do pumps. Now I'm going to draw that left leg up and hold it on
that inside edge and hold good. Now let's go the other way pumps. Now I'm going to draw that right
leg up because I'm on an inside edge holding here and that is your forward inside edges on a circle.
Now our third element that we have is forward crossovers clockwise and counterclockwise. Now
let's take a look at what they look like counterclockwise first. So we go right leg push
cross the foot over push and cross push and cross. Now let's go clockwise. Now it's the left leg that
strokes and crosses stroke and cross stroke and cross and those are our forward crossovers
clockwise and counterclockwise. And the next element is backward one foot glides right and
left foot. Now I like to do a couple of swizzles just to get some speed going so I'm gonna do back
swizzles and now I'm gonna pick up my right leg hold swizzles and now my left leg hold.
I'm gonna do one more lift and the other leg lifting and holding. Now when I draw that leg
up I'm gonna make sure I'm completely balanced over my right leg or my left leg. Now our next
element that we're going to be looking at is going to be backward half swizzles on a circle
counterclockwise and clockwise. Let's start out with counterclockwise first. So I pull up my arms
are inside my circle I'm going to be pumping with my left leg so we're gonna go pump together
then pump together then pump together. Now let's go clockwise head is looking over my left shoulder
we're gonna go left leg sorry right leg together right leg together right leg together. Again when
we move backwards just always make sure you're looking where you're going. Now our last element
that we have an adult for would be the hockey stop. We're gonna do right and left again I want
to think about taking a very thin layer of ice off and come to a complete stop on both sides.
So we'll get a little bit of speed arms are in front I'm gonna bend and I'm gonna push
into that right side holding. Now let's do left bend and press and hold.
And those are your hockey stops. Again do not rush them don't go as fast as possible because
then you do risk a fall. You want to get comfortable with it first bend and take your
time and then hold that after. Now our very first element that we have an adult five would be the
back outside edges. I am going to use some pumps to get some speed that we've already learned. So
we're going to do first counterclockwise. So I go arms up I'm going to use some pumps with that left
foot and then I'm going to draw it up and hold one two three and then foot down some more pumps
and then draw that leg up one two three. Now let's go clockwise. So again I'm looking where I'm going
I'm going to use that right pump to get some speed and then draw it up so that I'm on the back
outside edge holding. Again a couple more pumps and holding. Now our next element that we're going
to be looking at it's very similar to that first one it's going to be back inside edges. So again
I'm going to do some pumps first to get some speed and then we're going to draw up that leg.
So we're going to go left pump now I'm going to draw up my right leg so I'm on a back inside
edge and then foot down draw up the right leg hold one two three. Now let's go clockwise
get some pumps with that right foot now draw up the left foot so I'm on a back inside edge holding
foot down a couple more pumps and draw up that left leg one two three and those are your back
inside edges going clockwise and counterclockwise. Now the next element that we have is going to be
the back crossovers clockwise and counterclockwise. Now let's take a look at counterclockwise first.
So I'm going to take that pump that we've already learned pump cross pump cross pump
cross. Now let's go clockwise now so I'm going to always look where I'm going I'm going to think of
that pump pump and cross pump and push under pump and push under. Again if you're not super confident
yet after that pump you can lift the foot and then over pump and then over and then when you
get better it's just going to have a nice flow where it's push and cross push and cross. Now the
next element that we're going to be looking at is forward outside three turns and the first one I'm
going to start with is a left forward outside three turns. So I put my left foot in front
right foot behind right arm in front left arm back. I'm going to bend push draw the foot in
turn and hold. Now let's take a look at a right forward outside three turn. So I make sure that my
right foot is in front right arm back left arm in front. I'm going to bend push heel pressure
turn ball of the foot holding. So again just make sure that you change your weight in the blade from
that heel to the ball of the foot. Now the next element that we're going to be looking at is going
to be the forward outside swing roll to a count of six. Now definitely we are not rushing these swing
rolls. We're going to bend I'm going to push on to a left forward outside swing roll bend one two
three four five six then feet together one two three four five six feet come together bend one
two three four five six bend push one two three four five six and just those are your forward
outside swing rolls. Don't rush take your time make sure you have the leg extension in the back
and then comes to the front feet come together and then repeat again. Now our last element that
we have in adult five is the beginner two foot spin. Now we've already learned what a forward
pump looks like let's use that to get some momentum into the spin to help us. So we're
going to use that right pump well it depends which way you spin but right pump and draw that right
side in. Now when I do that I'm taking my time I'm not rushing it I'm making sure that that right side
comes around and then I pull up. Let's take a look at it one more time. So small pump forward pump and
then that right side is going to draw up and hold it. And that is your last element a beginner two
foot spin. Now our first element that we have in adult level six would be the forward stroking
with the end pattern of forward crossovers. This is going to move down the ice so we're going to
start pulling up we're going to bend our knees and we're going to push together bend push
together bend push together bend push now the forward crossovers and then again stroking
and then the forward crossovers around the end. And that is our first element that we have in adult
level six. Now our next element that we have is going to be the backward strokes the end pattern
is going to be back crossovers and then we're just going to repeat on the other side. So I start
with the backward stroking arms are up we're going to bend our knees and I'm going to push with my
left foot first so we're going to go stroke together bend stroke together stroke together
stroke together now we're going to do back crossovers around the end and now again stroking
and then back crossovers and that is our stroking with back crossover pattern.
Now the next element that we have is going to be the forward inside three turns. So I'm going to
start off with my right leg I'm do a right forward inside three turn first so right leg is in front
right arm in front left arm back I'm going to bend my knees for a nice push draw the foot in
shoulders then hips now let's take a look at a left forward inside three turn again when I'm
doing a left forward inside three turn that left forward is going to be the the skating leg that's
in front left arm in front right arm back I'm going to bend my knees I'm going to do a nice push
draw the foot in shoulders and then hips and hold to help you make that turn a bit easier
move those shoulders slightly before you make the turn and that turn will be beautiful. Now our next
element that we have is going to be a forward outside edge change to an inside edge but we're
going to take that swing roll that we learned earlier and use that free leg to help us with
that change of edge. I'm going to start off with my right leg in front so I'm going to bend push
I'm going to swing through and then change edge and as you can see I pulled that free
leg back behind my body let's do it one more time push use that swing through and then hold
very good now let's take a look at our left leg now so I'm going to start off with my left leg
in front push we're going to take that swing roll that we used earlier swing and then change to that
inside edge and then again push swing and then bring the free leg in again with that free leg
it can be anywhere you want because it's a free leg so if you like extending it after that change
of edge feel free to do that as you can see I just kept it into my body a bit more. Now our next
element is going to be the t-stop right and left I'm going to do two t-stops with my right and then
two with my left so let's see what they look like arms are in front of my body I'm going to bend push
draw the foot bend and stand up one more time push draw the foot in bend and pull up now let's
take a look at two with the left leg so I'm going to bend push draw the foot in bend and rise one
more time push bend and rise and as you can see I'm not rushing it I want to take my time
when I'm stopping taking my time bending make sure I'm completely stopped and then I rise
push draw the foot in bend and stop definitely do not forget to use that ankle bend so you can
sit lower into the ice and then rise up. Now the next element is lunges and that is where
one leg is going to be bent where the other leg is going to be straight and it's going to be
dragging on the ice pretty much so I'm going to do both sides so that you can see what it looks
like so I'm going to take a push and the first leg that I'm going to drop back will be my right leg
so I bend and hold to where my boot is dragging on the ice now the other leg bend and hold and
then stand up now you might not be quite ready for all the way down and that is okay we have to
build those muscles up so if you find that when you push into a lunge and you're here don't worry
you will get there with more practice but it is where that boot is dragging on the ice. Our last
element that we have in adult six would be the two foot to one foot spin now again I'm going to use
that pump just to give me some speed into that spin so I'm spinning left arm in front right arm
back I'm going to do a pump two foot now draw that right leg up completely balance over my left
and hold now if you spin the other way let's take a let's take a look at what that looks like
now I'm going to go holding here I'm going to bend I'm going to pump with my left leg
two foot now lift that up and hold and that is your two foot to one foot spin
so those are all your elements that we have in adult levels four through six just as a reminder
I did not break down these elements I'm just showing you what they look like that way when
you are in learn to skate you already have a jump start on what they look like so when your teacher
says hey today we're going to learn a lunge you will already be like oh I know what that's supposed
to look like thanks for watching Next Edge Tutorials and looking forward to seeing you in our next lesson
