day three on Oahu and we are starting
the morning with sunrise at Laniakea
Beach which is where we were yesterday
and we saw the sea turtles no turtles
yet but maybe they'll come out and say
hi before we leave we're early birds
were here for sunrise we normally get up
at 4 a.m. the benefits of that is sunset
there's always a bunch of people sunrise
there's one lady over there for a little
kid we're lucky it's very quiet
it's quiet and relaxing so we have a big
day planned with daylight savings we're
trying to take advantage of as much
sunlight as we can possibly get on the
sunsets really early so we're gonna go
do some fun things after this including
coffee hiking features I'm gonna try a
food I never thought I would try so stay
tuned
[Music]
and now it's time for breakfast
[Music]
ie like blueberries strawberries and
then we got was a banana coconut honey
on the top
I added strawberries to mind Adam added
strawberries and blueberries so he's
very very excited
[Music]
we're at brew and foam and I got a
coconut macadamia nut latte with coconut
whipped cream and it is unbelievable and
it's delicious it's very messy I spilled
it everywhere but the whipped cream is
very good and the little bit I've
actually tasted of the drink is very
good as well
highly recommend this place if you're on
the North Shore
[Music]
all right we're at Diamond Head National
Monument this is one of my favorite
things in Hawaii it's a three hundred
thousand year old crater just outside of
Honolulu and there's a military base
built onto it well a trail that they
built up to the top with a fire control
system the sign said it was an
engineering marvel of its time so we're
about to climb up to the top it's about
560 feet and should be a lot of fun I
know it's gonna be a lot of fun so we
got here a little bit later than we
would have normally like to it's very
busy you can see all the people at the
top so we're gonna hustle oh no I'm
gonna run into people and hopefully get
some good views
[Music]
[Music]
almost to the top and if these are
insane
[Music]
all right we just made it down to the
bottom compared to our hikes we normally
do in Washington is pretty quick pretty
easy there are a lot of stairs and there
is an incline obviously because you're
going to the top of a crater so if you
don't used to hiking it might be a
little hard I might get you too yeah
it's pretty hot so bring some water
you're exposed the entire time to the
Sun but it was beautiful and even though
there are a ton of people you recommend
coming very early if you're gonna come
here yeah earlier the better even with
the crowds you can't beat the views from
the top it's like it's a must-do when
you're on all yeah it sure can't miss so
one thing we failed to mention is
parking in the admission fee for Diamond
Head so there's you can park either
before the actual visitors center
trailhead area and walk in that's a
dollar a person I believe and it's cash
only or you could park at the Visitor
Center which was full we got there but
you just wait in a short line and we
parked within like five minutes and that
was about that was five dollars cash
only and they had people directing you
to spots and so no one's cutting and
it's a very fair parking process so if
you go to Diamond Head make sure you
have cash with you and we recommend
parking at the Visitor Center because
you'll be a super close walk to the
trailhead when you're in Hawaii you must
listen to 93.1 pnina it'll put you in
the island spirit it's just awesome
Hawaiian music we listen to an entire
time we're here check it out
[Music]
so I'm gonna start this off by saying
that I am NOT an adventurous eater
I really hate seafood I've tried salmon
lobster I tried to quite a few different
types of fish and I've never really
enjoyed any of them it's a taste in a
texture thing for me so I've never had
polka and well for some people that's
like one of their favorite foods and
everyone thinks it's awesome for me it's
kind of terrifying cuz it's raw and I
don't even like cooked fish but I
promise Adam I would try it on this trip
so I'm gonna do it so this is my first
ever bite that's okay
I'm kind of scared
but here we go
I'm nervous
okay so couple things I thought it
wasn't much like come when you don't
really fully cook a piece of chicken
it's kind of tough and chewy I thought
it was gonna be like that so it's very
soft
it doesn't really taste like fish so
Adam you win cookies not Italian that's
a big one I might eat it again I always
tell her she's missing out on a whole
world of flavor awesome food she needs
to get on the train I'm about to devour
this so yeah he's gonna finish it and
maybe at another point on our trip I
will get my own but I will I'm proud of
myself eventually got my PO cave from oh
no seafood supposed to be the best poke
a and Honolulu there was a sign in there
that said in 2015 it was rated number
five places to eat top 100 places to eat
in the US so super excited for this so I
got the number one I don't know I think
it's tuna ahi tuna so but I'm so hungry
oh yeah that's all no mm-hmm the best
that's really good the fish is awesome
rice is great you got to come try it
[Music]
we are at why Ola shave ice we actually
came to the wrong location there other
locations super famous it has like well
over 2000 reviews on Yelp but we came to
this one on accident but there's really
no one here so that's awesome
Adam got Obama's rainbow with ice cream
and condensed milk or snow cap and then
I got pineapple and coconut ice cream
also a snow cap we're gonna dig on it
that is the softest ice I've ever had in
my entire life if yesterday's shave ice
was amazing but this makes that one feel
like it's a chunk of ice is incredibly
soft come here
if you're in Hope in Ottawa viola shave
ice delicious
it's like a you're getting a cloud so
good
Obama's rainbow
it's like Lara so soft
next up on our stuff our face before we
roll on to the beach tour is Leonard's
bakery so normally I don't eat gluten
I'm not
celiac I'm just really sensitive to it
so I stay away from it but when we came
to a wall whoo five and a half years ago
I didn't know this place existed and
then I found out about it and I've been
dying to try it ever since so I'm gonna
regret this later but we're at Leonard's
bakery home of famous malasadas and we
bought two of them and I'm gonna have a
bite and it'll be worth it I have a
feeling they are hot and fresh out the
kitchen and we got the cinnamon sugar
and then we got a coconut filling
I've missed you glutton to my first
taste of gluten intentionally from in a
very long time
it is like a pillow Adam you got to get
some of this
it's so soft can I sleep on now can I
sleep on this it's very good this place
is so famous that if you were to Google
where to eat in Honolulu it would come
up so but even though it's very popular
you should definitely come here don't
skip it cuz do you think it's a tourist
trap it's very good one more bite
[Music]
we just got free unlimited parking in
Waikiki which is absolutely unheard of
all the other Lots are like two-hour
minimum or even like $40.00 the biggest
minimal
all right like hiki beats tons of spots
available I feel like you're the only
one here although it's really busy it's
such a classic you kind of have to come
here when you're visiting the island
although we will say we do enjoy the
more secluded beaches on the other areas
to the island the view here is iconic
you just can't really
our long nap in the Sun time to go get
in the ocean the water it's really nice
before the waves are fun it's beautiful
water holding it on for dear life
we've just finished a gorgeous sunset it
like you can be magical even with all
the people is still very magical and
we're now we're headed to Duke's which
is our Hawaiian tradition so every time
we come to Hawaii you go to Duke's to
eat dinner or lunch listen here fifth
time at Dukes we've been to Duke's on
Oahu Maui and Hawaii and we've been to
this location before and it's basically
on the beach which is really awesome
yeah we love it it's one of our favorite
places it has like two sides to it it
has a barefoot bar with tacos and
burgers and nachos stuff like that
and then I have a nicer side with steaks
and nice cut some fish and all that
stuff and we're gonna head to the
barefoot bar outside nachos and some
delicious dinner oh yeah we're very
hungry so Dukes is so busy though they
ran out of pagers so they told us to
come back in like 25 minutes to get a
pager and then I guess we'll wait even
longer to actually at a table we're
crossing our fingers it won't be too
and it'll be worth it regardless so
we're gonna get coffee and on our way to
go get coffee we noticed
our favorite little stand from the north
sir has a spot here with the amazing
bullet coffee so we're gonna go get some
[Music]
blackened cajun fish tacos
I think it's grilled some kind of fish
with no idea what it is come with chip
wok Pico has like crema on it looks
delicious oh and I got the cooler pork
nachos which is like three times the
size of my face it is huge
Adam will be helped me finish this for
sure that's a wrap on day three on Oahu
so we are very full we're gonna roll
back to our car go to bed we have a very
early adventure tomorrow morning we're
gonna be exploring the east side of the
island which we haven't spent much time
on in the past so we're super stoked
