hey guys so I'm just sitting in my attic
right now I have really been wanting to
get more into home Runners and more DIY
and kind of just doing it myself I've
been learning from my uncle and I've
learned from my dad yesterday I was just
practicing boxing in some pipes because
we're renovating part of the basement
but I'm gonna try and box this duct in
the Attic the lighting in here is
upstairs there's actually four of these
ducts in the Attic but I'm going to
start with this one because it's the
smallest and like the easiest to tackle
I didn't do a really good job of
explaining while I was doing it because
I'm still learning myself but I figured
the easiest thing to do because this one
was laying on the floor and it was
against the wall we only needed to
two sides of a frame so I started with
the front piece that would be the
easiest the floor and wall were a little
bit uneven in some parts so I thought
the most accurate thing for me to do
would be to perfectly measure the front
piece build that out start with the long
pieces and then attach my Crossway
pieces
make sure that fits perfectly and then I
would build one to go across kind of
like a tabletop
so
I started with the front piece and I
used for this two by threes and then
just smaller pieces of cut two by threes
for the Crossways
and I think two by twos would have been
great with two by threes were cheaper so
that's just what I bought so one side
of the framing is done
and I wrestled with it a bit but
hopefully it'll work
and I'll finish it tomorrow
so it's day two yesterday I got half the
frame done one side done so obviously I
didn't put it in place yet because I
want to build the other side first
but probably gonna put it 16
inches away from the wall so I'm just
going to measure that out again
um yeah before I do the other side I
just want to re-measure everything so I
don't mess up because that will suck if
I build out the whole piece and then
they don't fit I have cut my pieces for
the top part of this I'm basically going
to put it
so it's under
the plug I just have to shimmy it in
there but it's gonna be a perfect
fit to do it like an inch less than this
one for some reason so it's good that I
measured again and didn't make them the
same size because then I would have made
the whole like
frame piece and
it wouldn't have fit
I was told to use the stud finder to see
and so far I'm not really a big fan of
it because I don't know if it's accurate
but the places that I went over
yesterday and today it seems like
there's a stud there
I have marked so just so I don't put
these pieces
in the same spot because then I have a
problem then I can't drill it into the
wall at all so I'm gonna try and avoid
those so I'm gonna measure them on my
main piece here it has been screwed to
the floor it has been screwed together
which I did first and now it's the
Moment of Truth screwing it into the
wall
um I keep tracking that it's level just
in case like anything slipped it out of
place
one side I'm going to need to put shims
on near the plug here there's a bit of a
gap so I'm just gonna like test with
shims because I need to put one here
according to the stud finders perfectly
snug so I'm gonna put the thickest most
supported part
if I'm wrong that's gonna suck yes
so when I initially
film myself doing my frame and stuff it
was my first time really doing it on my
own and I was kind of figuring it out as
I went so I didn't do a great job
explaining the only reason I didn't box
it in full yet is because my dad said he
has some wood for me so I think I'm
gonna wait for that then I'm gonna put
the trim back on the corners that I
pulled off then I'll probably put some
shelves
or a shelf over it and then maybe put
some like books or something just make
it like cute as possible because there's
not much you can do with such a
low space
in terms of the frame my plan worked
it's all secure there I built that front
piece first got it into the floor and
then I did the top piece and now
it's all secure and ready to be covered
up
