Hello Tim, thanks for sending me your painting following our
recent months project and it's certainly a nice colourful scene. You've got good composition,
good balance to it and a sense of depth as well in that we've got some foreground interest,
we've got something in the middle ground there and then obviously these background hills.
Good drawing skills, I like the figures here, a nice group of figures. This figure in white
being bright against a darker background that works well and that darker one there against
a slightly lighter background, yeah it works well. I think maybe the boat here is a little
bit too narrow. If I look at the back of that boat it just looks a little bit too narrow to me.
Don't know what you feel about that but maybe if the back were just a little bit wider
or perhaps we had a sort of this side of the boat came out a little bit more
that might give it more breadth to the width to the boat. As regards watercolour techniques,
very loose like the way that you've done the sky. I guess you're trying to get to a brighter area
here on the top of the hill. I think the value of the hills could have been a little bit lighter.
If I look at the value of the hills compared to the foreground maybe they could be a little
bit lighter just to push them back, just to push that depth back a little bit.
Nice colour on the lifeboat here, boat in the middle ground. Perhaps the reflection,
so this is a little sort of stream going down the harbour here, maybe that reflection there could
be just a little bit darker I think. Also watch the overworking, maybe tiny bit of overworking
or splattering and maybe overdone it with the blooms here and the cauliflowers that are falling
but you've sneaked in a bit of darkness on that boat just to give the boat a bit more body to it
and use of white paint I can see with the rigging and lines that's works well. Yeah, just be careful
not to overdo it with the white paint. You can sort of go over the top a little bit with
the white paint. Yeah, so overall really nice loose painting. Just my points about the width
of the boat, maybe the value of that background, particularly here on the top, you know,
it's just a little bit lighter, it's gonna push it back a bit more or maybe make the foreground
a bit darker. But lovely composition, good group of three figures, well done on the figures
and good sense of value as well with that light figure, the movement of that figure
against that darker background. So well done Tim and look forward to seeing your next painting.
Thanks very much indeed. Bye-bye.
