hey kids so here we are again on tool
Tuesday I'm gonna include the rent of
the wrenches because that's what I did
last time and wrenches and sockets kind
of work together so I'll show you kind
of what's in a basic socket set and
you'll show you why they're so so handy
because you can the job goes a lot
quicker if you have a ratchet and in a
socket but but first I have a dad joke
for you uh have you heard the joke about
construction I'm still working on it
so anyway I'm gonna go ahead and move
the camera and get close a little bit
closer and we'll get started okay so I
got my trusty piece of wood here again
I'm just gonna show you what's cool
about a ratchet set okay so before we
use the pliers and a wrench right the
open end so what I'm gonna do this time
is I'm just going to go ahead and put
this wrench on this side and then we're
gonna use our ratchet this time and so
here's a ratchet okay and then I'm gonna
use I think that's a half inch yeah yeah
half inch and I'm just gonna put it on
here and then so a ratchet works like
this see this lever here on the side it
makes it go forward or backwards and
remember righty tighty lefty loosey so
right now it's ratcheting when I'm going
left so it's actually this would be to
loosen okay and then if I flip that
lever it goes just the opposite now I'm
tightening okay so you want to make sure
to flip that lever there's a lever on
most ratchets this one has a little dial
on the back same thing okay so now we're
gonna be tightening it okay so put this
one on here
I figured tighten this because if you go
to ratchet and it's and it's it's not a
little snug you just kind of spin your
wheel so we want to be able to wrapped
it so we're getting it close okay and
then I'm putting it on here okay I just
go like this I push it forward iraq into
the back push it forward to the back
right just like that see what you trying
to spin a wrench around it see so
everything's nice and tight
no if I want to loosen it I just flip
that lever back I do just the opposite
so I'll put it back on there okay so
that's all there is to it and here I'm
gonna show you a couple things about the
cobalt brand that's kind of cool
is they actually so for the the
Americans wrench which goes by fractions
like we talked about last night it has a
red ribbon around it right and so also
on their on their sockets they have a
red ribbon
- okay and but if it's the metric then
they actually have blue see that kind of
a cool little quick reference for it and
that's the same on the wrenches as well
as the as well as the sockets so um and
here's another cool thing I thought I'd
show you so here's a normal ratchet okay
and that's a 3/8 inch ratchet is what
that is because that's the measurement
of that knob that's sticking out there
okay and so you sometimes you'll have to
use you know depending on what you're
using this one has a has a 3/8 inch hole
in it and you just put that in there
right that works fine but then when you
get into the smaller sizes they have a
smaller hole okay and so that won't fit
in there so you have to use this adapter
okay so you put that on there and then
that fits in and you're good to go so
that's kind of a standard type of
ratchet this cobalt ratchet I
was kind of cool because it actually has
this design okay so it actually has
three different sizes it has that 3/8
inch size on the back and then it has
the quarter inch here and then it has
the half inch so it's all built together
I haven't had this rack ratchet set for
very long so I don't know how strong it
is
but cobalt makes a pretty good brand for
a mid grade tool so you know if you're
really reefing on this on sometimes
these gears that are inside here can can
giveaway if you get something that's
cheap so these gears like right in here
if you're if you like added a pipe to
the end of this to really refund it you
could actually destroy the ends inside
if you get too cheap of a tool so I
think Cobalts pretty good from what if
what I've have experienced so that's
that piece and then you have lots of
different accessories in here too so
here's just an extender it just fits on
the end of that and if you needed to
reach a little bit further you had to
get around something that's all that is
just an extender okay okay and then I
got the extenders for the other two same
basically the same thing right so and
that fits on this side okay and then you
also have with this particular set it
comes with a little screw driver adapter
okay so you can use this just for to put
inside let's see it's for the smaller
sizes that's meant for that so you can
use it for smaller nuts and bolts okay
and then another cool thing that
actually came in this set to is it has
an adapter so you can actually use this
as a screwdriver so it has all these
tips right here so it has all these tips
and I could use it as a screwdriver too
so it has a fill
and flathead and you just put that in
the end and then you could use that as a
screwdriver to I would recommend you get
your own screwdriver but this is in a
pinch if you needed it it's here so it's
kind of cool I'm trying to think of
there's anything else in here I think
that's about it okay that's pretty much
all there is to a ratchet socket set but
I think that hopefully that this is
gives you some familiarity with it and
remember you could when you use your
tools to put them back okay because
there's been a lot of jokes about a 10
millimeter wrench or a 10 millimeter
socket because it is true it's the most
common one and they tend to walk off so
make sure you put put your tools back so
that when you need them and you come
back to them they're there right so
seems pretty simple enough but you'd be
surprised how you know you finish a job
and you're like oh ok I'm done and then
you move on and then you forget to put
it away and then it just walks off so
that 10 millimeter is absolutely like
that it's a running joke so anyway I
hope this was helpful to you and we're
slowly building things I got the pliers
we got the wrenches we got the the
sockets and next week will be the drill
which everyone's excited about but I
wanted to kind of build this up because
we'll use sockets with the drill right
so that you have some familiarity with
that I'm trying to stay as basically as
I can and work my way up so ok thanks
for watching and we'll see you next time
on tool Tuesday god bless you
