hey kids
welcome to another edition of cooking
with dad
i'm dad and we're cooking well actually
not yet but we're gonna today i'm gonna
show you how to bake chocolate chip
cookies uh
my first cookie that i actually ever
made was peanut butter cookies uh so
we'll do that at some point but
i'm gonna show you today how to make
chocolate chip cookies you know when i
made
biscuits before
a lot of my
followers in the uk um made sure to
point out those aren't biscuits those
are scones
and then so there's some confusion there
i guess with
what they call
what do they they call
cookies are our biscuits or our cookies
or their biscuits
something like that and i think actually
um my understanding is a cookie in the
uk
can be called a cookie if it's a
chocolate chip cookie and we're making
chocolate chip cookies today so i guess
i'm hoping that passes so
anyway i do have a dad joke for you
before we get started um and it's
actually from my book
uh so
it's actually the first um
first joke that joke in my in my book
uh so the brownie told the vanilla wafer
he was crazy
but the vanilla i'm blowing this here
let me let me start over
so i do have a dad joke for you so the
brownie told the vanilla wafer he was
crazy
i'm not crazy the wafer said i'm just a
little kooky
cookie
ah so anyway let's get started
okay so i've got this all laid out for
you um first we're gonna do first thing
we're gonna do though and i'll put the
recipe in the uh in the description of
my video too first thing we're gonna do
though is preheat the oven to 375. so
i'm gonna go ahead and do that
okay so
so i got this all laid out for you like
i said just to kind of speed things
along
so i've got two and a quarter cups flour
in here okay
and then i have a teaspoon
of baking soda and a half a teaspoon of
salt in here okay um i'm showing you off
my fancy pottery here it's actually a
local company um that i picked up at a
craft fair last summer actually two
summers ago we bought some of the stuff
actually i think three summers ago
because then we had covet and then last
year i sought them out and found all
that and i bought pretty much everything
they have it's a it's a local company
called cascadia stoneware and i bought
all their designs out i love these so
anyway i got a pretty much a complete
set here uh so anyway so
we have the flour we have the salt and
a cup of butter so each stick of butter
is a half a cup right so just get two
and then um it says softened uh because
it just makes it easier to work with and
here's something i learned the hard way
when i was younger and i went to make
cookies i just went ahead and you know
warmed up the butter and the butter was
hot and then when i mixed it in and then
when i added my chocolate chips my
chocolate chips melted so
don't do that learn from learn from my
mistakes so
um anyway so it's good to just set it
out depends on how warm it is in your
area
um but i microwaved this for uh 30
seconds and then i just let it set here
for a while so it's all nice and cool
but it is softened okay
um then we need three quarters cup of
sugar so i have that here
okay
and then i have three quarters cup of
brown sugar
okay
and i have an egg i'm gonna get that out
of the fridge so you need one egg and
you need one teaspoon of vanilla okay
we got that here and then you'll need
two cups
of semi-sweet chocolate chips i just
have the white chocolate i don't didn't
happen to have any um
uh brown chocolate so i'm just gonna use
this white
and it's just
good too it's still chocolate um and
then i like nuts and they say to use
coarsely chopped nuts i like to have
bigger chunk nuts in my in my cookies so
so that's what we're going to do there
so anyway i'll start adding all this
stuff together i just wanted to show you
the layout here because when i move the
camera you're not gonna be able to see
me
and i'll just kind of we'll get through
this pretty quick
okay like i've talked about before you
usually want to combine your dry
ingredients together to make sure that
they get good and mixed because you know
if you added your
baking soda um
kind of with the wet ingredients it
might not get mixed properly so it's
good
to add this together we're going to add
this with the flour this is your salt
and your baking soda okay so we're going
to add that and kind of sprinkle it
around
okay and then we'll mix that up all nice
and good okay
okay and then i'm actually gonna mix the
sugar
uh
the two sugars
over in this bowl okay
and you'll see why in a second
okay
and we're gonna we're gonna add the
butter to this okay so let's do this add
the butter
actually you know what i'm gonna mix
that first
okay so i'm gonna go ahead and mix this
together right
just make sure that that
baking soda and salt gets mixed in good
with the flour
okay
so that looks pretty good now we're
gonna mix these two together
i don't know this is critical but you
don't have to make sure these are
perfect because they're both sugar
okay now we're gonna add this butter
okay
let's see if i can get it to come out of
there
i have to get a
rubber spatula to get it to get the rest
of it out there but let me go ahead and
mix the rest of this up
okay
and you can use a blender with this too
an electric mixer you know um you don't
have to though i've always just used a
fork
because you know
you dirty up more stuff the more stuff
you got to clean but
a mixer would work probably
better it'll be quicker
okay
so we're good here
do this for about a minute probably
takes you about a minute
okay got the rest of the butter out of
there
there we go
and i don't know that it really matters
too much
which one you add next i'm going to go
ahead and add my egg
okay and you could if you wanted to you
could mix that before you added it but
i'm not gonna
okay
now we're just adding that egg
and then we'll add that teaspoon of
vanilla
okay
oh a little bit
spilled it over the top that's okay
i don't mind a little extra vanilla
okay
so we're good there
make sure this is mixed good
okay
now we can add our flour
okay
and this you just gotta be careful so it
doesn't slosh over the sides
okay
and then
then one of those two
two cups of the which is basically a bag
of chocolate chips
it's basically two cups come in a bag in
a normal sized bag
but i laid them out there for you so you
could see that it was two cups and this
is how i mix too you have a fork right
see how you have a fork you can't even
really see it
but i just kind of push the
the dough through it okay
like that
and that's how you mix it
so you want to have a you want to make
sure you have a fork that has a good
solid handle on it otherwise you're
going to be bending that thing right
okay
just about got it
okay and it wants you want it to be kind
of sticky like this you don't want it to
be runny right
because when you go to put this on the
on the cookie sheet
you'll be able to
just they drop you drop
uh spoonfuls is how they say it i've
seen different people do different
things use a small
ice cream scoop or something like that i
just use a spoon
so there we go now we can add this
okay
you got that and then like i said i like
to have my nuts see how they're
uh they're not finely chopped right and
these are just walnuts okay
there you go
oh my oven's
ready to go and i'm just about ready to
go here
not sure how many cookies this will
actually make but i'll let you know at
the end once we're
once we're all done
i'm guessing if i had to guess they
always say it seems like
most recipes are three dozen cookies
um
maybe i make mine a little too big
i always end up with
not quite three dozen so
we'll see how these turn out
okay
looking good okay let me move all this
stuff out of the way and we'll put them
on a cookie sheet
okay so here's how i do this and you can
do this
many different ways it doesn't matter so
i usually try to get
about that much
and then you just put it down it doesn't
have to be
anything fancy just like that
okay
looks like we're gonna probably put
i think about a dozen per sheet
something like that
you could even just
you know grab a small amount like that
they don't have to be perfect because
when they come out of the oven they'll
they kind of make themselves into their
own circle when they bake and and squash
down right so
they don't have to be perfect as you're
doing this
don't have to be perfect anyway right
we've talked about that before
they're perfect because you made them
okay
so that's all there is to it like i said
you can use a spoon if you want but you
got the rough idea of how big you want
them
right and you just got to space them out
to make sure that they don't run into
each other right
and if you make them too big i mean
maybe maybe that's okay too
it doesn't
honestly really matter so
there we go
so that's that one and what i'll do is
i'll go ahead and prepare the second one
so that when this is done
um then i can just pull this one out and
then stick in the next one and you want
to put it in there for eight to ten
minutes so i'm gonna go ahead and throw
this in
and timer
i'm gonna put it at nine
okay and i'm gonna fill this one up you
don't need to watch me do that
okay so we have about 30 seconds left uh
i ended up um adding another minute
because it didn't look like it was quite
cooked still learning the you know each
oven's a little bit different it's at
eight to ten minutes looks like mine's
ten minutes for this so we've got about
15 seconds left as you can see i got the
next ones left you can hear my dogs tap
tapping around as usual
so we'll pull this out
and we'll put the new the
uncooked ones in
okay
ah looking good
okay
go ahead and put these in
okay timer off timer back on 10 minutes
start
so as you can see they kind of flattened
out but it's okay that they you know you
don't want circles complete circles you
want a little bit of chunks and because
of the nuts it does that you know you
don't have to add nuts like we said uh
but i i love
walnuts pecans uh you know
the macadamia nuts are good
although they're expensive uh so
anyway see this one's kind of a little
bit wonky but that's okay you know
it's still a cookie and people will be
digging that cookie so um so we want to
let this cool off for for a little bit
um
you know
you could
you know get a spatula and slide it
under there and then um
put it on a cooling rack if you wanted
to or even on a plate um and then the
thing is though so this this is hot
right this pan is still hot so if you
start to put those new cookies on there
they're going to want to start to
to melt a little bit not a big deal it's
just that's just what it what's going to
start happening um so i usually just
wait for it to to get pretty close
because
to make uh another
row of these is only takes
doesn't take a minute so um i'll just
let this cool until we get close here
and then i'll put these on a plate and
then we'll
finish off the last little bit of our
dough
[Music]
well look at that this recipe i just
went ahead and filled up this last uh
batch and first batch was 12.
one in the oven's 12 and this is 12. it
actually came out got one minute left on
my
uh the ones that are bacon but that's
amazing i think that's a first for me
where i actually did them right where
they came out this one might be a little
i mean i've fudged a little bit this
one's a little bit small but really i
mean you almost always come out with
uh 24 and then six you know so it hardly
ever comes out where it says three dozen
then you actually get pretty much three
dozen cookies so pretty cool
okay so the last batch just came out we
got three dozen cookies already ate a
couple but um
here you go so
i hope that was helpful for you um you
know just trying to break things down
baby steps kind of uh makes simplifies
things for you right so that you can do
it yourself
and if you stick with me you're going to
run out of excuses for why you can't do
things so and that's the goal right so
anyway i hope this was helpful for you
thanks for watching and god bless you
